Was wondering, do all storylines need to take pace in the present? If a person had an idea that took place, say 5 years ago..would that be doable?

Just be careful of it taking place too far in the past. If you create a story that takes place say a hundred years ago, then all of the players would have to create characters specifically for that story.

politics, religion, intrigue...all set against the backdrop of a besieged city and war....all i need is for you good people to add the romance, the personal conflicts, and the betrayals....
Edit: BTW , this will be a linear story, as opposed to the free flowing one at the festival

So you mean that charcters that came from distant lands cannot join this game?
Example is Helvil (if he ever get approved) came to Sarvonia last year so you mean he cannot join because he needs to be present 5 years ago?

Or just have a rule saying that as far as that story is concerned, the characters existed during the time of the story, with appropiate modifications to their histories. It shouldn't cause any problems unless you wish for what happened to your character in that story to carry over to other stories. It's like an alternate timeline sort of thing.

Well, i have a lot of the details that have yet to be worked out yet....
and as far as characters go....i was thinking that as mina said, we can just make it an alternate timeline...or, if you have a character that can be played five years earlier, do that...which is what i will be doing as Altario so his daughter will not have disappeared yet, etc..... i will leave it as a choice thing, that the player and i will agree to before hand....
when i get some more details figured out with the help of my lovely and extremely talented partner, i will post a rough outline.....
so stay tuned, same bat time, same bat channel......
