Cherri nodded her head and her fingers found her money pouch easily she took out the payment, placed it on the bar and slid it over to the mistress. Then taking the key she received in exchange, Cherri tucked it into an inner pocket.

Moving aside so that some of the other patrons could access the bar she bumped into a rather young looking elf. He called out to the mistress of the Inn in hopes of getting a room as well for the evening.

He stood little more than two palmspans taller than she. His hair was the color of ginger and upon closer inspection his eyes were the most enchanting shade of green.

Waiting until he was finished speaking, Cherri began her apology for rudely bumping into him.

Her melodic voice was soft yet solid as she did not lack confidence. "Excuse me Sir. I did not mean to bump into you. Please accept my apologies." Her violet eyes were warm and a small smile lifted her lush pink lips into a friendly greeting. "I am Cherri, Cherri Rowandyn. If you are not dining with anyone else, I would be grateful for company this evening."

The small hairs had raised themselves on the back of her neck when she had first entered the Inn. She kept a feeling of that something was not right but could not place what. For the first time since she entered the Inn, Cherri felt safer in the presence of the younger elf. Perhaps she just needed a companion for the evening. Someone to converse with and keep her mind from the dreary surroundings.

As Cherri took a step back putting more distance between herself and the eerie mistress dressed in the rich color of blood, her mind suddenly grasped a warning the woman had directed at another patron. Her analytical mind began to turn as she sought the meaning behind the simple words.

Amelia

"Ma'am, Ma'am! May I please purchase a room before you depart? And would it be ok if my chick peeps stayed with me as well?...If not I would like your humble permission to sleep in the barn..."

Amelia did not look kindly upon the had full of chicks, but she merely gave a small sniff before chucking a key at the young elf. This key had the number seven upon it. "You are in number zeven. The uzual fee, except I vould like two zanz for de chickz. Their feaderz vill mez the room up. Alzo, name?" She picked up her quill and prepared to write his name.

Menora

“I’ seems we share room, Menorra. Meh name is Rroo’ee.  I pay you somethin’ forr room too. Meybe you wan’ ge’ meal, we share too? I no’ ea’ much cos I so small, an’ I don’ tink dis woman serve Brrownie sizze meal."

Menora looked down at the small woman, now that she was close enough she could tell, just barely, that it was indeed a woman. Glad that Amelia's attention wasn't upon her anymore, she bent down slightly as to hear the Brownie better.

"Aye...so it seems. I doubt there's a Brownie sized bed for you. I guess we'll have to work around that when we get up there. And, it's very nice to meet you, Rro'ee? Is that it?" Menora wasn't quite sure if she was saying the name right, but she figured it was close enough. "And...well, you don't have to pay that much of the cost for the room. Only a couple of sans should do it."

"I wonder where she keeps her money,"
Menora thought as she looked at the Brownie. Rro'ee didn't seem much bigger then the od she just handed over.

"And yes, we can share a meal. I'm not all that hungry anyways. I wonder what they have....although I hope it isn't prepared by this woman." Menora said the last part in the softest whisper she could manage. She did not want to face the wrath of the inn keeper from the Netherworlds.

Daron saw his opportunity to speak and he took it, knowing that he had no where else to go.  "I need a room too.  My name is Eg-... Daron Soulstealer. "  He blushed at his gaff, then tried to hide it by puffing out his chest.  "Perhaps some of you good people have heard of me.  I'm considered a hero in some parts."   The rustling in his cloth bag reminded him that he had three very hungry friends with him.  "And I really need to get a meal quickly too."

Yarrow heard the young man in front of her address himself by the name of Daron Soulstealer. She raised an eyebrow in doubt. She had heard that Soulstealer was an elf, not a human. Could it be that the rumor she had picked up before from the market was false? But that did not matter for now. She had to get a room. Fast.

"I would also like a room, please." she half shouted across the room and came towards the old lady. She secretly hoped that the old lady wouldn't bite her. She casted a glance on her left to Daron Soulstealer. She never saw a hero so... shy before. Weren't all heroes supposed to be big and proud, and maybe a bit smug?

"Later, when you will dine, would you be kind enough to share a table with me, sir? I personally do not like sitting alone." Yarrow smiled at Soulstealer.

Slipping from the back, Kori approached the tavern keeper just behind the elf he had almost tried to kill earlier that night. He slid a small scrap of parchment across at the old woman, an od riding on top of it - a single word was scratched into the parchment:

Inkear ignored the twowalker talking to him, staying curled up in a ball on the floor giving the annoying necklace around his neck a scratch, the little bit of shiny metal was kind of dirty, and the twowalkers' scratches on it were somewhat difficult to see. The metal jangled slightly and Inkear promptly sat up trying to get it off. "Stupid twowalker metal, sticking on my neck! GET OFF!"

"Later, when you will dine, would you be kind enough to share a table with me, sir? I personally do not like sitting alone."

Daron was a little startled by the request.  Then a knowing smile played about his lips.  She just wanted to get close to the hero.  This identity was great, he thought to himself, as he eyed her comely form.  If he played his cards right, she just might pay for the meal herself as well.  He shot her a winning smile.  "I would be honored.  You must tell me the name of the enchanting dining partner of mine."  He felt more disturbance in the bag over his shoulder and he gave it a quick poke, smiling sheepishly at her.

He did not notice that Bart had managed to slipout and fall to the floor.  The little ferret slipped under the nearest table.  It was content to watch the activities of the people for now, but its little black eyes surveyed the room.  Bart was hungry, and one thing always meant food.  If he could find something shiny and bring it back to his master, there would be a treat ready.

Daron was relieved when the bag stopped moving.  Yes, he knew they were hungry, but what could he do?  He couldn't very well let them out.  Vlad and Xavier would go after thiose chickens in an instant.  Or the brownie.  By the gods, wouldn't that cause the scene?  And Bart.  Who knew the trouble that little bugger could get into?  Last thing he needed was to get caught stealing here.

Gervase watched intently as the grey haired woman pulled a large book from behind the bar and began flipping through the old tome.  As she found the aging page she was looking for she ran her red nailed fingers along its surface then marked with fading red ink.

"It appearz,"
she said, “dat dere are roomz enough for all of you. My name iz Amelia Keern and dez iz my inn. Vhile you are here, you vill obey me, or elze you vill find yourzelf out on de ztreetz. Underztand?"

Obey, the young mage thought, the last time I have been asked to obey was when I fists came to live at The Academy of Magic and was told I would have to obey to stay in the tower reserved for Fire mages.

He cocked his head a bit to his right as he pondered the situation, perhaps she considers her guests as her children, the dark haired man thought.

The mage watched with interest as the matron began registering each of her guests.  He marked mentally that the brownie was not assigned her own room and thought it a bit peculiar, would she not wish the Od of payment from each guests, he thought, if so why not let her stay in her own room?

Why an Od for payment
, he wondered seeing the brass coin was typically used for measurements.  He reached within his girdle and found the coin purse he hid within and felt for the elongated object he would require.  Grasping it firmly he removed the item and held it in his palm.

Gervase noticed that as each coin was placed within the woman’s hand it seemed disappear as if by some magical means.  The raven-haired man had heard about individuals commonly referred to as false mages and wondered if the matron might be one.

The thought passed quickly as he was being addressed by the woman, "And vhat iz your name?"

“Gervase Bertrand my lady,” the page said nodding his head

"Your room iz number five. One od for de night," Amelia said tossing him the key.

Stepping towards the bar he offered his coin to her outstretched hand, “thank you,” he said and watched intently with his deep blue eyes to see if he could ascertain how her magic worked then bowing and retreating back into the group.

From behind him, he heard the voice of another arrival requesting a room, "My name is Cherri Rowandyn and I would like to stay the night if you have a room available.  Also a hot meal and something to drink would be appreciated."

Gervase tried a timid smiled and nodded towards the violet-eyed woman hoping not to seem too nervous.  Her moon light colored hair seemed to glisten in the flickering light that lit the room. He was pleased to hear that the woman would occupy a room near him seeing there was something about her that put his mind at ease.

Perhaps I should find a seat
, he thought and began looking about for one seated away from the group.  Finding a suitable location, he made his way avoiding the other guest.  He sat the black leather satchel down next to his seat and reached inside for his journal removing the black handkerchief that engulfed it.  Placing the item on the table, he opened it and hoped that by pretending to read he might not raise the anger of the matron.

Amelia seemed to the young mage a little exocentric in dress and actions but not too far so compared to many he had met in Ximax.  He thought about what tribe if human she might belong to and then pondered something quite strange, could she be an Ulvur?

The mage read so many diverse subjects and being a bit on the gullible side at times he tended to believe nearly everything he read.  He shook his head and sighted softly. At least I will have a roof over my head tonight, he thought as he read quietly.

“Aye...so it seems. I doubt there's a Brownie sized bed for you. I guess we'll have to work around that when we get up there. And, it's very nice to meet you, Rro'ee? Is that it?" “Yes, I’m Rroo’ee.”  the Brownie smiled. Not many people were able to pronounce it correctly first time round.  “An’ I’ no problem if dere no Brownie be’s, I slee’ on coat.”

“And...well, you don't have to pay that much of the cost for the room. Only a couple of sans should do it” Menora said. Rookie reached into the bag that was usually carried by her falcon, wiggling her arm around until she found a few coins nestling among the gems that made up the rest of her wealth.  She would have to change some more of them the next chance she got; Rookie only had one san left besides the two she now pushed onto the counter in front of Menora.

Rookie also wished she could be sure that the food wouldn’t be cooked by their charming hostess, but unfortunately she thought it might be a bit of a vain hope.  At least let her wash her hands first. Please?  Rookie took another look at the hands turning the book, and watched as several other people came and collected keys from her, all assigned different rooms.  So many people!

Meanwhile, Ekre the falcon had spotted a family of small, fluffy and delicious-looking chicks sitting perfectly positioned on top of one of the elves hats.  Watching them with greedy predator eyes she swooped down from the staircase and over them, perching instead on a light fitting set into the wall where she could get a better view of the little mouthfuls.

"Vhen Haz getz here, den he vill deal wid you." , Malavon eyes narrowed at the implicit threat , Haz , who the hell is Haz ? , Malavon taught , but the way the old woman said that made Malavon putting his hand in Zaroc pommel just for precaution.

With difficulty he stopped a curse and turned his back to the woman , the way she said those words somehow had preoccupied Malavon , still mumbling words of hate towards the old woman , Malavon heard a conversation between two other patrons that arouse his curiosity "My name is Daron Soulstealer ,Perhaps some of you good people have heard of me.  I'm considered a hero in some parts. " , an ironic smile appeared on Malavon face That is Daron Soulstealer ? I would expect more of such a well known hero ...
Aproaching the young lady and Daron , Malavon smilled and asked " Pardon me good friend but i couldn´t stop to hear that we have a real life hero amongst us , and i wondered if i could buy you a drink and for the lady as well " , he then gave a quick look at the old woman and added " In the case that old harpy decides to open the damn bar... "I need a room too.  My name is Eg-... Daron Soulstealer. Perhaps some of you good people have heard of me.  I'm considered a hero in some parts. And I really need to get a meal quickly too."

She merely look at Daron a bit longer before replying to him. "If you dink dat you vill get a better price for being a hero, den you are miztaken. One od for you az vell and you are in room eight." She wrote his name down in her book and tossed the key towards him.

She saw the tailed man slide her a piece of paper with an od on it. Looking at the single word written upon the paper, she assumed that must be his name. She took the piece of paper, and the od, wrote his name down, and slide the key across the bar in the sam fashion as he did. "You shall have number ten."

Looking briefly at the man who approached Daron, she wondered if he would need a room later, but gave it no second thought. Closing the book loudly, she placed the stopper back into the ink and returned the items to their dusty shelf.

"Zince many of you are requezting zomeding to eat and drink, I shall call for Haz." She backed up and opened a door that was located just to the side of the shelves of wine and glasses. "Haz!" she called sharply through the door.

There was quite a racket as a large man, some would say he was a giant, appeared in the doorway. He dwarfed Amelia. A fresh scratch was upon his cheek, blood oozing down towards his jawline.

"Haz...Iz....iz it dat?" Amelia asked, her voice cracking for the first time that night. Her face displaying worry.

"No worry. Haz have it controlled." Haz spoke in short sentences, his intelligence, or lack there of, showing through.

"Very vell....ve have visitorz tonight. Dey are azking for food and drink. I shall leave you vid dem." Haz walked through the door allowing Amelia to disappear behind into it, closing it as she went.

"Food?" Haz asked as he cracked his knuckles loudly. He looked around, before speaking again. "We have....uh....Thyrón Chowder......Thergerim Carrot Mash......Garthook Stew with Celeste Red Beans......Krakalimari with Weeproot Rings......Kao-kao Fruitballs.....Thyslanian Spicecakes. That's all....I think. We have drink. Drinks are....uhm....Tulimon Grape Juice.....Rosemint Cordeal......Tuborger Brown.....Spring Joy......Stratas Delight....and Mil‘no Fire. Now....order." This long speech and him having to remember everything seemed to wear Haz out, although there was a small glint in his eye that said he was ready to fight if the need came to.

"I would be honored.  You must tell me the name of the enchanting dining partner of mine." Daron Soulstealer smiled at Yarrow. Yarrow couldn't help smiling back. He fell for it. Now all Yarrow needs to do is to talk a bit with him... then she'll find out the result of the bet she had made with herself: is he the real Daron Soulstealer? If he finds out that she was just tricking him, well, at least Yarrow found a little amusement for herself.

"My name is Yarr-"

"Zince many of you are requezting zomeding to eat and drink, I shall call for Haz. Haz!" the old woman slammed her book shut and shouted. Yarrow turned and gasped.

"B-but, I don't have a room yet!" She said rather angrily. What was all that waiting for if the lady doesn't give her a place to sleep?

Just then, a big, bulky giant stepped into the doorway, and he had a giant scar oozing with blood on his jawline. Yarrow looked calm, but inside, she was gaping. What creature could have injured that man?!

"Haz.... Iz... iz it dat?" the old lady shuddered.

"No worry. Haz have it controlled." the giant, Haz, spoke in slow, clear words, and Yarrow couldn't tell if the giant was just being sarcastic or was really a slow speaker.

"Very vell....ve have visitorz tonight. Dey are azking for food and drink. I shall leave you vid dem." the old lady calmed and went out the door, leaving Haz behind. Haz gazed at the visitors, and Yarrow waited in suspense.

Haz slumped, as if he was tired. Yarrow blinked, then sighed. I guess I'll just have to order for room later....

"... Huh. Well, may I, sir, to have one Thyrón Chowder and Rosemint Cordeal?" Yarrow said politely to Haz. Then she turned to Daron. "I'll introduce myself after we sit, sir. Will you order as well?"

Rainier heard that there seemed to be enough rooms for all of the occupants of the room and was happy he would hate to see anyone be forced out into this night. He got up from his table and placed his blades back around his waste and began to walk up towards the bar.

"Excuse me mi lady I would like to get a room in your humble inn my name is Rainier." He than looked around to see all of the other occupants and found that there was a brownie who seemed to be accompanied by a falcon or so it seemed to be a falcon he couldn't be sure with the poor lighting. "Look Star it seems you might have a friend maybe you should go introduce yourself." She seemed to be reluctant but finally jumped off of his shoulder onto the counter and started to walk away towards the brownie and other bird.

"... Huh. Well, may I, sir, to have one Thyrón Chowder and Rosemint Cordeal?" Yarrow said politely to Haz. Then she turned to Daron. "I'll introduce myself after we sit, sir. Will you order as well?"

Daron smiled at his good fortune.  He first turned to the stranger that approached them.  "Of course, my good man.  Anyone that wants to buy me and my lovely companion here a drink, is more than welcome at my table.  And as long as your buying, you are welcome to stay."  Daron laughed as if joking, but inside it held some grain of truth.

He looked at the elf and grinned.  "Yes, I do believe I will order, and I look forward to getting your name."   He turned to the large, and obviously dimwitted man.  His natural desire to show off took over and his eyes sparkled mischievously.  "So, Haz, if the old biddy could speak proper Tharian, what would your name really be?  Hans?  Hank?"   He glanced back at his two companions with a conspiratorial wink.  "Olaf?"  He began to chuckle at the big oaf's expense.

Under the table, Bart's black beady little eyes darted about.  It was tempting, really tempting to go after that chicken, and his tongue came out and licked his chops.  Still, he spotted something else of interest.  Near the feet of another man was a satchel, laying there open.  Open!  It was just too inviting.  Darting in and out of moving legs with practiced ease, he made his way to the satchel, to that very inviting satchel.  And just what would he find in here, he wondered, as he poked his furry little snout into it.

Meanwhile, in the bag over Daron's shoulder.  Two very cramped, very hungry, very miserable ferrets were busy eyeing each other.   Xavier was cramped, and Vlad was taking up far more than half the bag.  It wasn't fair.  Something had to be done.  Reaching out, Xavier nipped at Vlad's flanks.  The other ferret, bigger than Xavier, though not by much, snarled and bit him back.  That was it.  It was on now, and he dove on the other, and the two began to struggle.  Suddenly, the side of the bag curved in and a hard knock was felt on the side of his head, and for a second he saw spots before his eyes.  Apparently, Vlad saw the same thing, and the two of them resumed their staring contest.  At least he had half the bag now.

Daron looked sheepish as he had to once again poke the bag.  What were they doing?  Couldn't they just behave for once?

He then walked over to the elf who had just introduced himself as Rainier and asked, "Do you mind if I share a table with you while we eat for I am in need of some civil conversation" He said this with a polite smile on his face and then said, "if you like I could pay for your meal?"
