A scent of dryed grass mingles with the potent stench of horse excrement, as you step into the small, wooden building. Neighs and winnies mix into an equestrine chorus, and you can see that there are quiet a lot of the beasts inside. One will rarely encounter the owner of the establishment, as he is most often lounging about his luxurious home.

The adolescent who watches over the horses is merely fifteen, but well trained none the less. Horses seem to be the most valuable treasure in the world to him, so it can be guaranteed your beast is taken care of. In general, he remains in utter silence while doing his work, and would prefer that the customer did not speak. If they did so, however, he would respond politely, and not a hint of his begrudgingness would show through. While the stable focuses primarily on horses, other animals may be taken into the shelter, the price being debatable.

The guard took Lýth’s reins and led Lyss into the city. As they headed to the stables, she saw many colourful stalls around. Items on sale ranged from weapons and clothes to quills, paper and ink. It was bustling with activity, and very lively.

To Lyss’s question about the taverns, the guard recommended two of them: the Pig N’ Whistle and the Sleeping Dragon Tavern. Based on his descriptions, Lyss decided on the Sleeping Dragon Tavern. It was, after all, closer to the stables, and would provide a good atmosphere for her to practice. The Pig N’ Whistle, though, seemed like a better place to ply her trade.

Soon, they reached the stables. A young boy hurried out, and the guard placed the reins in his hands, instructing him to take good care of both her and her horse. Then, he bid her goodbye, and headed off back to his post at the gate.

Lyss looked at his back as he went back to the gate. Perhaps he wasn’t really as grim as he had looked. Looks, after all, could be deceiving. Now, she turned her attention to the stable hand. After introducing himself as Trom, he had kept quiet, as he led Lýth into one of the pens and filled the bin with some hay. He had shoulder-length cinnabrown hair, and was tanned, a very healthy bronze skin colour. Trom got her bags down from Lýth and placed them on the floor beside her feet. As silence slowly overwhelmed Lyss, she tried to make conversation with the silent boy.

Um, Trom, is it? I was recommended to go to the Sleeping Dragon Tavern. Do you know how I could get to the tavern?

Oh my, I hope he does respond. I would seem very stupid to be talking to myself. Lýth does seem to be taking to him, though. That must be a good sign.

Tousling the silvery beast’s mane, the adolescent had always had an infatuation with horses, so it was no wonder that he had become the owner’s apprentice. His master never came out of the large house that sat next to the stables, as he preferred to lounge about in his home rather than actually work. Besides, Trom was “a natural,” so “what training could he possibly need?” The words of the man were both complimentary, but at the same time made his master’s laziness blatant.

He deftly began stroking a brush through the glimmering coat, working in silence as usual, before the lady, probably feeling awkward, made an inquiry. ”To reach the Sleeping Dragon, head southwest on Market Street, which is immediately outside of the shop, and then turn left. You will come to another fork in the road, and at that point you should also turn left. Follow the path in a northeastern direction, and at one point you will have the option of continuing forward or going right. Turn to your right, and continue straight on, while making no more turns. This should lead you to the tavern you seek. The correct tavern should have a portion of the city wall rising behind it.”

“Can you read, milady?”
Handing her a slip of paper, which were marked with a pattern of the streets and buildings in Bardavos, he continued, ”It really isn’t important as long as you can understand the picture. The Sleeping Dragon is here, so if you remember the directions I told you, it’s just along this path.” Tracing his finger along the roads it came to a respite before the boy fell silent and turned back to his work. His voice barely above a whisper he concluded, ”Your horse is in good hands, my friend.” It was unusual for the boy to speak on his own, but when a customer asked him a question he would provide a thorough answer and hope they appreciated his service.

You may continue posting in the Southeastern district Lyss, and have that post make your way to the tavern. The map referenced in this post can be seen here.

Trom

Ever since a young age, Trom had been absolutely captivated by horses, so it was no suprise that he had just spent half an hour running the comb through the new horse's silvery mane, missing his noon time meal as a result. He traipsed over to the counter in the back corner where he stored his supplies, taking his time to stroke a few of the graceful beasts noses on his way. After setting down the stiff bristled comb, he picked out an apple that looked particularly red compared to the other fruits. Lýth had already been fed a trough full of dried hay, so a little treat would do nothing to ruin the animal's diet.

Although he desperately wished it the contrary, the now-late apprentice had no time to feed the woman's horse by hand, and merely plopped the luscious fruit onto a bed of straw in the horse's pen. Now that all of his guests had been fed, he wandered into the small fenced in area in front of the shop, to spend the last few minutes of his respite basking in the sun. Withdrawing from his pocket an extra apple he had stashed there, he relished in the deluge of its fruity juices upon placing a bit on to his palette.

Looking out onto the busy streets of Bardavos, he noticed that a man with a horse was wandering through them, his eyes searching for a destination. Of course, no one with a horse was searching for a place other than the stables, though it seemed that this man new exactly where his building was, as he continued walking in the right direction. Trom stood up and wandered towards the gate of the fenced in area, opening it as the man approached, and allowing him to step inside. As per usual, he spoke few words in his greeting, but new it unpolite to not do so, especially when referring to a customer.

"Welcome to Ijenji Stables, sir. If you seek the epitome of lodgings for your horse, please follow me into the stables." Turning without a glance at the customer, he strode purposefully back into the stables, a mingling of the aromas of damp hay and faint manure caressing his nose, a smell he had come to love, despite it being known as disgusting amongst other folk, who were not obsessed with the majestic animals. Upon taking a few steps into the door way, he held the low gate open wide so that the man and his mount may step through, making a careful note that the man had made no attempt to speak to him.
