Thanks for the encouragement, Altario!  Everybody has been working hard, not only at moving the story along, but at producing some outstanding pieces of writing, too.  It's really nice to see the story come alive with so many interesting characters; thank you, everyone!

@ Fu - I guess I'm a sadistic moderator; but the misery hasn't even started, yet!  That's kept in store for when the pirates turn up!  I noticed that you've just announced your magical ability...you might want to be careful with that...I'm sure Malavon is lurking somewhere nearby!  Anyway, I doubt anybody would believe that you are a magician, going off your appearance!

Anyway, great posts from everybody, as usual.  Just to let you know that I haven't abandoned ship!  Just had a busy weekend, but will have some time to get a post written tomorrow.  I think it's about time the captain came along and tried to sort this mess out.

@Rhia - Fu is exactly right, i was taliking to Mallorix, as i guessed he'd be the only one looking scared enough for Fionn to think she had a chance of getting him to listen to her. but reply anyway, i think you'd be justified in wondering what on earths she was playing at?

@ Yurie: I know I've complimented you on this before, but it bears repeating that I think that the pleasantly high frequency of posting in Jovloff's Gold is in no small part due to the regular supply of inventive challenge and stimulation that your glorious assembly of NPCs provides.

Hey Yurie, a small question...

If the captain is so superstitious about women on board the ship, why does he have a woman lieutenant and a woman first mate? Why does the superstition apparently not apply to them? (Since he calls the first mate a well-respected member of his crew, and all that) Isn't that *kinda* hypocritical?

Good question, Koka!  I intended that the captain was also uneasy about having the lieutenant and first-mate on board, but had agreed after been pressurised by Jorn.  In an earlier post I had the doctor mention that the captain had got used to having women on board.  But, superstitious beliefs can be hard to bury completely, and as this voyage is going to encounter some unfortunate events, it stands a good chance that all the females on board will start to fall out of favour...so maybe it's best you don't shave that beard off any time soon!   

Anyway, the lieutenant and first-mate are more like men than women!

Hey Yurie,

despite my jokes a few days ago (about returning from an absence and finding my character shackled), of course I don't mind if the captain decides to put Fu in irons, or otherwise punish him severely, if that's good for the story. I tried to post so that both mercy and the opposite are plausible lines of action.

Just thought I'd make this clear. I look forward to future surprises.

Judgment has come, and right soon!   

As for how things are to continue, I guess you could post your character's response to the little drama that has just unfolded.  You can try to ask the captain to show some mercy, if it's in character, but he won't show any!  Not yet, anyway.  Fu and Mallorix need some time to suffer!  Also, maybe Kaska can try to rescue them?

I plan on having a new chapter start soon, too.  It should bring a new dimension to the story...

Marvellous, Yurie! I'm looking forward to playing Fu's reaction, but I'll wait a few days to give others time to respond.

Also, a little personal announcement: I'll be away from 15-25 April (first a bit of work, then a bit of holiday). Until then, I'll be writing a rather lengthy and demanding job application, and after my return I may have to prepare for the job interview (if I'm lucky). And as other non-Santharian duties give no indication of releasing their grip on me, my posts may be shorter and my responses less speedy than hitherto until the end of May or so.

But I have every intention of sticking around and having delirious conversations with my fellow sufferer Mallorix and anyone who is merciful enough to talk to the captives!

Another great post, Rhia.  Really, I was surprised to find out that you're only fourteen!   

Anyway, as I mentioned before, there will be another event coming up soon, but I wondered what you'd like your characters to get involved with in the meantime?

The fighters could, of course, do some more sparring, perhaps this time with weapons?  Or we could have an archery contest?  Or anything else that you fancy, really!  Just let me know...

And I'm sure I can arrange another medical emergency for the healers.  What do you think?

Maybe Mallorix and Fu can have a chat as they suffer in the heat?  And Rhia can either finish her tea or get involved with the healers again.

Just thought I'd ask everyone what they would like to write about as we wait for the next chapter to unfold.

Well, Koka, Royce and Hylphan are archers, so that could work!  Maybe we can balance an apple on Fu's head for the target?     But what about Malavon?  Do you think that your character could compete in an archery contest, Mal?  Or maybe a sword fight with the lieutenant or a marine would be better?
