Kann Day II, Sundrown

[Thorin Broadfist]

Thorin rolled over in his bed and reached for his mug of ale that he had left on the nightstand. After several attempts, and almost knocking it over, his fingers finally grasped the rim of the mug. Sitting up, he took a large swig of the stale, warm alcohol. ”Ahg! I’m awake now!” He didn’t remember coming back to his room, but he had grown more accustomed to that circumstance than he preferred. He did faintly remember a contest between him and that drunk, what was his name? Oh yes, Bwarth, or Gulgol if you were talking to someone who couldn’t stand him. Anyway, he remembered lots of ale and cursing and something that could’ve become a fistfight if Galein hadn’t put a stop to it. “I can’t let myself get into such a rage with that fool again, nothing good will come from it…”

Thorin rose rather unsteadily from his bed as he started looking for his boots. After procuring several other articles of clothing he had misplaced, he finally took a slow walk downstairs. Glancing around at the small crowd of people who had already arrived despite the hour, he noticed two elves, one almost skittish looking, Galein, who was conferring with a dwarf Thorin didn’t recognize, and of course Pragnék. “I should say something to Galein, I can only hope she isn’t too upset with me.”

He started walking over towards her when Pragnék grabbed his shoulder, “Say there Thorin, I never did give you the winnings from last night. I sure made a bundle off of that contest you had with Bwarth.”

“Keep’m for now Pragnék, I’m sure I owe you something anyway. You know my luck with dice.” Thorin gave him a smile and walked up to Galein. “Excuse me, I don’t mean to interrupt, but I feel I owe you an apology Galein. I never meant for that contest with Bwarth to go as far as it did. I don’t quite remember if we broke anything, but if we did I’ll either fix it or replace, I promise you... Again, I truly am sorry.”

[Shatí Úp]

   Shatí had only been in Tyr Donian one day and already he was amazed by the change of environment.  It was so unlike any place he’d been to before and it had only been a matter of minutes before he was hopelessly lost.  It had only been thanks to his merciless pestering and a very annoyed dwarf that he had the grace to be directed to the local inn, the Kann Kemruhnt.  He took a moment to compose himself before he stepped inside instantly absorbing the regular smells that accompanied an inn.  His nose twitched as he picked out the scent of tea from the experience of years of herbalism.    Dismissing it as nothing he swiftly took a seat at an empty table and waited to be attended.

[Galein]

"So your name is Galein is it?" Mine is Aster, and this by my side is my eyes and nanny, named Tiffan." said the dwarf. He then tapped his dog and the dog moved away, wandering around the tavern. "This is good by the way." Aster said after taking a drink of the Hearthberry Juice.

"Glad you enjoy it, it seemed like you could use a drink. You came in looking slightly weary." Galein replied. She watched Tiffan wander around some more and commented, "She seems very well behaved. After dinner tonight, i can put together some scraps for her if you like."

Galein glanced at the stairs as Thorin unsteadily made his way down. 'I wonder how bad he is after last night.' Galein thought. Pragnék, a regular of the tavern, stopped him and they talked for a moment before Thorin continued over to Galein. “Excuse me, I don’t mean to interrupt, but I feel I owe you an apology Galein. I never meant for that contest with Bwarth to go as far as it did. I don’t quite remember if we broke anything, but if we did I’ll either fix it or replace, I promise you... Again, I truly am sorry.” He said.

The night before Thorin had got into a contest with another drunk, when things got heated, she had to end it before it got too much further. She stood between them and got their attention. After a fwe minutes of yelling, she could tell that both were heavily drunk. She and her sisters got them into separate rooms, far apart from each other, and left them there for the rest of the night.

"You two only made a mess with what alcohol you had left in your mugs and the food on the table. No major damages i can charge you with. Just try to keep the contests to something not involving ale, preferably." Galein said with a laugh.

She could tell Thorin was still unsteady and motioned for him to sit. "This is Aster, he came from Nybelmar." She then pointed to Tiffan who was starting to walk up the stairs. "His dog takes care of him, as he can't see." She turned to Aster, "I hope you don't mind me introducing you to Thorin here, but he is still feeling the effects of last night. He could use someone to help keep him busy for a bit." After Thorin had settled himself in his chair she asked him, "Would you like a Svaq to help you this morning?"

Once again, the door opened, and another elf walked in. 'Lots of elves this morning.' Galein thought. The elf took a seat at another table and sat waiting.

[Avásh ám Térqu'ypheró]

Avásh sat quietly, waiting all the while, not thinking about anything in particular, but instead, feeling. He felt warm and at peace, then suddenly, he could feel the presence of the other Elf, a friendly face in these parts. A fellow Maeverhim was always a pleasant sight! He took his quiet leave of the bar; smiling with his tea in hand and approached him with a smile and warm greeting.

" How are you on this fine day, good Elf?" Said he in Styrash.

[Aster]

"She seems very well behaved. After dinner tonight, i can put together some scraps for her if you like." Aster nodded at the sound of this, as it saved him buying the side of a goat to split with the mutt. At that moment another figure seemed to stumble in, judging by the way his boots clattered and slipped Aster guesses he had had a long night the night before. "Excuse me, I don't mean to interrupt, but I feel I owe you an apology Galein. I never meant for that contest with Bwarth to go as far as it did. I don't quite remember if we broke anything, but if we did I'll either fix it or replace, I promise you... Again, I truly am sorry.” Aster just sat back and listened, there was not allot else to do at that time. "This is Aster, he came from Nybelmar." Aster gave a slight wave at this, "Um hello nice to meet you" he mumbled, he always found it hard meeting people. "His dog takes care of him, as he can't see." She turned back to Aster, "I hope you don't mind me introducing you to Thorin here, but he is still feeling the effects of last night. He could use someone to help keep him busy for a bit." Aster didn't mind it was one of the nicer introductions he had had. He held out a hand to where he assumed Thorin was sitting, though it was about a ped off, "Would you like a Svaq to help you this morning?" he heard Galein say to Thorin. 'Friendly crowd in this Tavern' he thought as he heard the door open again.

[Thorin Broadfist]

Galein always had a way of making something bad sound almost good. And here she still did, with a laugh even! Though he couldn’t quite get a rid off the other dwarf, if Galein thought he was worth talking to, then Thorin could too.

"This is Aster, he came from Nybelmar." She nodded towards the dwarf sitting nearby, who waved and uttered, "Um hello nice to meet you." "His dog takes care of him, as he can't see." Thorin only now noticed that dog that had been walking towards the stairs and was now climbing them. "I really need to start paying more attention to things…" thoughts like these were occurring now far more than he had hoped. "I hope you don't mind me introducing you to Thorin here, but he is still feeling the effects of last night. He could use someone to help keep him busy for a bit." After sitting down Galein added, "Would you like a Svaq to help you this morning?"

"Aye, that’s mighty kind of ya Galein, but I think I’ll be alright. Besides, it looks like someone else might be needin’ some drink or other." He gave her a slight wink, still feeling some of the ale from last night. Turning his attention to Aster, "Well met friend, I hope you’re liking this tavern so far. I traveled up from Strata delivering some metalwork to one of the nobles here and now I’m just resting for awhile before heading out." Nodding towards the stairs and only realizing afterwards that he had, he asked, "By the way, where did you get that dog of yours? Very clever if I say so myself."

[Shatí Úp]

   Shatí let his sightless eyes scan the bar room as the sound of footsteps approaching him rang off the floor.  Normally he would have discarded it as the barmaid come to take his order but the scent of freshly brewed tea, so unfamiliar in this place of stone and earth, alerted him that this was not so.  His assumption was correct, the person slid into the seat in front of him, the sound to quiet for any normal ears not as finally tuned as his to pick up.  It was definitely not a dwarf then, so it must be either an elf are an extremely stealthy human.  His theory was confirmed as an all too familiar for of Styrash echoed from across the table as the stranger said, “How are you on this fine day, good elf?”
   A thousand protests sprang up in Shatí’s mind at the improbability of this meeting. Two elves meeting by chance at a dwarven bar was probably common enough, but for two Maeverhim elves to do so was definitely not.    Still, unless he had misread the accent or this was one of the human traders who frequented the town Seraia, both equally unlikely yet still not as unlikely as this meeting, he was undoubtedly speaking to a Maeverhim elf.  He sat there dumbfounded for a few moments longer before speedily saying,“ Excuse me, this may seem impolite but I have not had contact with any of my race for some time now, are you Earthburned?  My name happens to be Averaeshi and let me get that tea fixed up for you I have some herbs that will make it better.”

[Ridgen Sú'ufanán]

As Ridgen was entering the dwarven city, there was one thing, out of all the other interesting things in the settlement, that caught his eye - the tavern. The Kann Kemruhnt - what an interesting name! he thought, although there is no way in the world that I could have any idea what it means...

Either way, he decided to enter the tavern. His attention was drawn to a conversation between the two Maeverhim Elves - a conversation in Styrash, in fact. It has been quite a while since he had heard the familiar words of the elven language. It was indeed a delight to hear those words again, and he seeks to perhaps join in on the conversation, but he wouldn't like to intrude - no, it is never a good idea to intrude into a conversation when you have almost absolutely no idea what it's about. He'd just listen for the time being.

It was then when he realised how thirsty he was. But seeing as the counter was empty, it seems he has to wait a while before his thirst can be quenched. No matter. He will simply stand at the counter and observe the rest of the tavern.

[Avásh ám Térqu'ypheró]

Avásh almost squealed with delight, however, his current situation prevented him from doing so. He looked at this new elf named Averaishi. He looked at him for quite some time. Then, remembering his offer, he quickly replied, " Yes, or course! It has been a long time since I have seen another of my kind as well. As for your question to whether or not I am Earthburned, the sad answer is yes. I was pushed from a tree, and now I seek the greater knowledge of the world; of herbs and magic, but mostly herbs and plants. I thank you for offering your herbs, I have not met someone who takes such a liking to tea. Most people here seem to drink liquor all day; doesn't suit me one bit. How did you come to be here?"

Avásh couldn't hold back his excitement. The though of someone else similar to him was astounding; and to think that he may actually learn something, this was a great day for him, a great day indeed.

[Galein]

"Aye, that’s mighty kind of ya Galein, but I think I’ll be alright. Besides, it looks like someone else might be needin’ some drink or other." said Thorin with a wink. Galein nodded and then started moving toward the elf that had been waiting to be served.

She saw that the elf that had ordered water earlier had now moved and started talking to the other elf. They were talking in the strange tongue that Galein knew nothing about. As she reached the table she asked, "Welcome to the Kann Kemruhnt! Can i get you anything this morning?"

Just then the door opened and in walked another elf. 'Sheesh! We start off this morning nearly empty and now we have a crowd of elves!' Galein thought. The elf walked up to the counter and looked around. Galein nodded to the elf and said "Be right there, Sir."

A familiar dwarven voice spoke up from behind Galein and said, "Don't worry, Galein, I'll attend to him."

Gapad

Gapad walked into the tavern carrying a large basket filled with an assortment of cooking ingredients. As she walked in she hear her sister say, "Be right there, Sir." Gapad patted her sisters shoulder and said, "Don't worry, Galein, I'll attend to him."

She walked up to the counter set the basket down behind the bar and said to the newly arrived elf with a smile, "What can i get for you?" She started putting a few of the ingredients away behind the bar while waiting for his answer.

[Ridgen Sú'ufanán]

Ridgen was thinking about whether it was possible to create fear in a target's mind at his current skill level when he noticed that one of the dwarves have moved over to the table where the two elves were sitting at.
Well, she doesn't look very happy, Ridgen thought. Then she nodded towards him, "Be right there, sir," he heard her say. He gave a small nod and went back to thinking about how fear can be inserted into one's mind through spiritual magic, then soon discarded the thought as he saw a dwarf walking towards him.

That's... a bit odd... Ridgen thought. Oh well, there's no need to worry about such things. He turned to face the dwarf that had come to serve him.
"What can I get for you?" she asked.
"I'd like some water, thanks," came his reply, in his usual, cheerful voice. "How are you this morning?"

[Shatí Úp]

   Shatí was already finished and pouring the herbs into the tea long before Avásh accepted.  After so many years of drilling the process into his head it was like second nature to him, even with the barrier his lack of sight provided.  He halted abruptly however, as Avásh calmly threw in more proof that the goddess Seyella was having quite a bit of fun with him.  He cleared his throat before saying, “You know that is quite a coincidence, I happen to be one of the best herbalists in Barvados.”
   Shatí was caught by surprise as a dwarven voice abruptly interrupted their conversation saying, “Welcome to the Kann Kemruhnt.  Can I get you anything this morning?”  Shatí was about to respond when the conversation was again interrupted, this time by the sound of a door opening.  The barmaid quickly turned around saying, “Be right there sir”, before turning around waiting expectantly.  Shatí was amazed how busy this place was getting, and quickly placed his order saying in Styrash, “Some hearthberry juice would be very nice, thank you.”

[Aster]

"By the way, where did you get that dog of yours? Very clever if I say so myself." Aster was a little surprised nobody had ever asked about Tiffan, that is nothing more than "so whats his name." Aster had to think for a second but eventually said "I got her as a present from a town I used to live in, she was just a mutt and nobody else wanted her so I did, I needed a pair of working eyes anyway. So do you have any pets?" Aster then whistled to call the dog back to him and soon heard the familliar clatter of doggy feet come running down the stairs and felt a familliar nose lean on his leg. "I hope she didn't hit anyone on the way down, the way she runs everywhere" Aster thought

[Avásh ám Térqu'ypheró]

Avásh looked at him strangely for a moment before turning to him and saying in Styrash, " You're that proprietor of the store that sells herbs aren't you? I've meant to go by there for quite sometime, wanting to ask you questions... for example...  have you ever seen Crystal Grass grown in a pot?" Avásh asked quietly, hoping not to attract any more attention to himself.

[Jenna Silverbirch]

Jenna drifted, gently, out of sleep.
The gentle street-hum was the first thing she could focus on, beyond the leftover fragments of dream that still clung, faintly, to her thoughts. It was barely there: a tremor just inside hearing, but she lay and listened all the same as the dream thoughts twisted away to nothing and her mind cleared.

Finally, she opened her eyes and gathered herself to get into some sort of upright position.

The tavern room was small and simple, but neat and clean. She decided, mournfully, as she half rolled, half fell out of the bed, that it had been the comfiest, softest, warmest thing she’d had the fortune to occupy in months. A blanket bundle stuffed in the driest bit of available ditch was all very well once in a while for making one feel like some grand wanderer from the best sort of stories, forsaking comfort for the sake of high adventure, but after weeks of damp feet and friendly spiders setting up home in your sheets, it started to grate. It’s particularly nice, though she thought as she wandered from the bedroom in search of the washrooms to be sleeping in a properly sized bed in a properly sized room. I never realised how small and silly scuttling around lofty big-folk rooms never being able to reach the shelves, and being tucked up in beds four times too large made me feel! Indeed, coming to the city of dwarves and staying in the dwarf- or rather, hobbit- sized rooms had put her in a comfortably content sort of mood. It was particularly satisfying to see big folk blundering about and getting in the way, for a change.

Ten or so minutes later, and she was clean and dressed in her usual shirt, jerkin, cloak, and breeches, her pipe in one pocket and her money pouch and scrap of paper in the other. She left her pack in the room and locked the door. She would decide whether she would stay another night in the inn after breakfast, and perhaps a short stroll. It would be shamefully unhobbity to do any sort of important thinking with an empty belly.

Downstairs, the tavern proper was quiet. A fug of early-morning stupor still clung about the few patrons. She scanned the clustered people for any interesting looking sorts who might yield a story, as she came down the stairs. None remained from the previous night, save a few old dwarves who were probably permanent fixtures- but to her delight, she counted one, two, three, four- four elves. Now there’s a positively literary coincidence! Them pointy ears are normally as rare as us little folk she thought, grinning. There were two young looking ones chatting together, a tough looking fellow, and another with an odd, ice blue sort of coloration. There just had to be a host of stories between them.

A dwarf lady, yes, lady- it always took a few glances to tell- seemed to be taking the order of the icey elf, so Jenna trotted to them, nodding and smiling in greeting.
“G’morning sir, and morning ma’am. Would it be any trouble if I could get something for my breakfast? Perhaps some of that tasty fish, or whatever else you’d reccomend- oh, and water, too, to wash it all down with, if you don’t mind. And may I say, madam, what a lovely sleep I’ve just had in one of your rooms! It were aspeshly nice to be sleeping in a proper sized bed, for once.” The woman, now close up, looked very like the other dwarf in charge of the tavern. Perhaps a team of sisters ran the place. And, yes, there she was, Galun or Gaylee or Garleen or some name of that sort, near two dwarves, one of whom she recognized as a fellow who’d got into a bit of a scrap the night before. “I s’pose I oughta find a table, too. Care to join me, sir?” she nodded towards the elf. “Unless you’re leaving, or it’s a bother. I’d be glad of a spot of company, is all.”
