"55 Words" Writing Contest - Vegetables - VOTING!

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's VOTING TIME!
As this is the first of the renewed 55-word story challenge, I will not harp on word count (
seeing as how if I did it would only be me and Deklitch in the voting
). Next time, there shall be no mercy (and more warning
)
As a quick reminder, here are your entries:
Tak
The carrots, bound in a bunch on the cutting board, stared at the crockpot in inanimate horror as the water boiled. Bubbles churning the broth, flinging about little pieces of cabbage, onion, and potato. The butcher knife, steely in its resolve, turns a deaf ear and readies a sentence. The stew will have carrots tonight.
Alýr (Rayne)
When you were a flower, I loved you;
your satin petals and pollen-yellow blush
quickened my heart.
Then spring faded, and so did you.
I thought I would never love again.
But you never stopped growing,
swelling into a vegetable
to feed wild rabbits.
I find I love you
for what you have become.
Deklitch Hardin
Tomato, O Tomato! Where are you Tomato?
Deny your species, be not lycopersicum;
Or, if you won't, be my love,
And I'll no longer be tuberosum.
Your species is my enemy;--
You’re culinarily a vegetable.
What's fruit? It’s neither branch, leaf,
stalk, flower, nor any other part
Belonging to nightshades. O, be some other solanum!
Roy Tmofl
In nature all things adapt to survive. Sooner or later plants will realize which ones are killed off by humans and which ones are grown in an abundance. When this happens. Slowly over time poisonous plants will become vegetables and fruits and all other things not killed off. When everything eats these "Safe plants" they'll die.
Ryvic Darkveil
Though called 'Veggie Tales', about veggies, it ain't:
Bob is a tomato; a berry botanical,
Larry a cucumber; a gourd, thus comparable,
Junior a-sparagus; though slim shoot in body,
a fruit in the head; so close, yet so shoddy.
I, a supporter of Nix - dissenter of Hedden - find this atrocious.
Culinary Schmulinary, I'm with botany.
Leif Terskun
I look at you - am intrigued by you - am drawn in by your unrepentant carrotyness. You lie there, defiant and orange. Very orange. A little muddy. "I am a carrot," you seem to say. It is everything there is to say about you. I wish I knew as much about myself.

I count 56 words in Roy's submission. If he wants to make some changes quickly, I think we can hold off for a little bit.

Don't worry about it Roy, as I said we're letting things slide on this first one since it's a bit rocky.

Mine should have exactly 55 words. Ryvic's did as well, but you cut off his introduction!

Ooh, they're all lovely. I liked Dek's the most though - lovely parody of Romeo and Juliet.

You have 54 words, Ryvic's was 57 with the intro.

Mine is exactly 55 words; I checked the word count again, and counted by hand. (Make sure you're not counting 'pollen-yellow' as one word; it's two).

55 words, when generated by a word count and counted by hand. (Keep in mind that a-sparagus is one word, not two).

Terribly sorry, I was counting "Pollen-yellow" as one word.
...my word counter was counting the "-" as a word. Free Word Processors are fine and dandy but terribly inaccurate apparently.
Ryvic, I am terribly sorry. I will edit the description to have the full bit in place.
