Return of the Dreamress

[Alýr (Rayne)]

The stars shine duskily in the mellow summer-time air. The time has come into night like a fish swimming lazily out of the swirling currents of day into deeper, calmer waters. And in that deepening darkness, the moon waxes. How brightly shines that gilded disk of Urtengor!--and then a cloud overtakes it, and a sleepy blackness comes over the peaceful lands of Caelereth.

I must return to Caelereth, the land from whence I come,
For when away heart grows weak and empty as a drum.
I long to see her fertile fields, and breathe beneath her skies--
to see the breeze press athl'ho grass, to watch injera rise.

A figure walks through the gentle gloom, though her feet seem hardly to touch the ground. Draped about her is a cloak to match the shadows about her, The path she has walked to find herself here at last has been long and eventful, though none would think to see her move, so light does she seem.

I must return to Caelereth, where mountains touch the clouds--
Tandalas reach up to the stars and hide in gauzy shrouds;
Her forests drape their mysteries in leafy twilight shade.
And while I've gone, with Caelereth is where my heart has stayed.

And at first, she seems only vaguely familiar, like a figure recalled in some pleasant dream; but on approach, she lifts her hand (a gesture of indication only, a sign of the source, for her art requires only will) and all at once, a globe illuminates in a white glow, throwing refulgent beams into the night.

I must return to Caelereth, to Allia-scented air,
Where every wind is like a kiss, and every bud, a prayer.
I miss the song of Aelirels, the lonely nightbird's cry,
Whose voice cannot match the sorrow of my last goodbye.

Another flashes, and another, and they begin to lift like brilliant bubbles into the air, and follow her, as though in love. When she pulls back the hood of her cloak, the light falls upon her face, and with the sight of her familiar indigo-eyes comes the realisation that Alyr / Rayne is home at last.

I must return to Caelereth, the place where I belong
With friends who I have not set eyes on in so very long,
And as I step beneath her sky with clouds as white as foam,
I feel her kiss upon my cheek and know that I am home.

A long and rather difficult journey, but I am at last to the place that will be my home for the next couple years. The internet here is very unreliable, and I will be lucky to have it more than a few hours a day, and even then, the speed is miserably slow. I will probably try to prep things off-line and post when I have internet access. I'm hoping to have something a bit more high-speed come October.

I have missed you all so very much! Who's all still here? And how is everyone?

What ho! A Raynestorm!

Sorry. I had to. Welcome back. The board has missed your tireless efforts.

Oh hey! A poem appeared.

I sing a song of golden days
Before the worldly call;
A song of peaceful olden days
When all could walk their favourite ways
In fellowship with all.

Some liked to talk; some danced and sang
But all were bright and kind
And when the time for friends began
They dropped their pursuits to a man
To help with heart and mind.

And now my friends are far and few
And few and far-between
But of them all I’ve thought of you
When I have wondered what to do
And what I should have been.

Of all my past, it’s you I ask
Before the golden morn
And when I make a choice at last
I hope your smile would keep me fast
’Neath loads I’ve not yet borne.

I hope a smile to your face
Some inky shapes can bring;
They help me see the homely space
Where fear and worries lost their place
And kindness was the thing.

Welcome back Rayne, it is so wonderful to see you around these parts once again. I'm extremely pleased to hear you arrived safely, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that sentiment!

I too have returned! I have dealt with the dragons and demons of my real life that I had allowed to fester and tried to hide from instead of dealing with them.

But this isn't about me, it is about welcoming your return to the fair shores of Caelereth. So, welcome, and I enjoyed your poem, and yours as well, Leif.
