Ladies and Gentlemen of the RP Board,

May I direct your attention towards the fact that a contest is, as of this moment, being held in this very thread. The Limerick contest is starting!

You have a fortnight to write a limerick and post it in this thread, and submissions will close on Tuesday 27th November.

A limerick consist of five lines, rhyming aabba. I'm sure you have an idea of the correct sort of rhythm and rhyme, but the first, second, and fifth lines are three three-beat feet, and the third and fourth are two three-beat feet, generally speaking. Some older examples use the first line, altered in some way, as the last line.

A sample limerick (the first part of a verse expression of Berkley's philosophy):

There was a young man who said: "God
Must think it exceedingly odd
If He finds that this tree
Continues to be
When there's no-one about in the quad."

Best of luck.

Leif.

Dear Leif,

A fortnight is 2 weeks, not... 2 hours or so ;) (We are today the 13th of November)

Thank you, Irid.

There once was a man from Belgrave
Who never had bothered to shave
And children were reared
To tug on the beard
Of the funny old man from Belgrave.
