I am not entirely sure how to word this or to even construct it so that it makes sense. First off, I’ll start with a disclaimer
‘This is in no way directed at or towards anyone, merely my own thoughts from over the years of participating in many aspects of this site’
.
Many seem to define power as the strength of a spell or the skill of a swordsman. Although this is true in context, it is quite different under the guidelines of Santharia and what is expected from a proper post in PBP (Play by Post). Surely a powerful mage can hurl fireballs down upon your head, but is this really any more deadly than a swordsman attempting to cleave your head from your shoulders. I think not.
For example, you cannot determine the death of another, so any attack can or cannot be lethal (Not your decision). Hence where the true power comes in. Every post is to be constructed so there is an opening for even the youngest of beggars or docile of healers to write their way around it. Many great writers will write only reasonable success based on the abilities of their character. Therefore the most powerful thing anyone can bring to a story is the ability to write.
I know battles are rare and some of the greatest wars have been fought with the written word. With all this said, just remember this as you write that Coór'hém battle lord with over a million murders under his belt and a demon locust as a mount. That hobbit gardener being written alongside you can quite possibly determine the fate of a story far more than you can, should they out write you.
So it may be true, that a Moderator will weigh you by the strength of your spells or the might of your blade. Your fellow writers will weigh you by the power of your words and your ability to bring flavor and enjoyment to their minds. Throughout my nine years of sporadic attendance in Santharia, my most exciting moments have come from posts that elicit emotions and draw me into a response.
~Sincerely~

I heartily agree.
In the end, the power one has comes from one's skills and creativity as a writer. I do love the entertaining writers--and others do, as well. I think it shows in the writer contests in AAIB, where most/many of the winners are hilariously creative, entertaining writers--specifically Ridgen and Jarrox.
And I know many people want very strong, powerful characters, but perhaps it's apropos to note that in Santharia, one's power is often determined by the will--and you don't need to be a mage or fighter to have a strong will.

I know what you mean Ilaról'silarná. I once had an uppity assertive rich girl in a full-on war story (No combative skills what-so-ever). Did she make a huge difference? Most likely not, but it was one of the most enjoyable stories I have been part of.
@ Rayne: I do not think I could do justice to the number of writers that have filled my heart with a variety of emotions. Kar'ii assassins that have brought out full on laughter, Remusian lords inspiring tender moments and a hobbit that spread fear and loathing; to name a few.
I find it somewhat cute that our Dreamress uses 'will' to define strength and/or power (A pun or play on words perhaps?).<--
I'll take somewhat of a liberty and define it, partially, as desire... With desire comes those moments where even the most novice of writers inspire and elicit.
