Outside the Thirsty Herald Oscar had quite a crowd.  It was around 11 bells at night.  He looked up.  Slivers of diamonds speared the black velvet of the sky, the moon, a globe hung on an invisible wire full and bright.  In the background he could hear the waves of the ocean lap gently against the shore behind the tavern.

He longed to go and take a quick swim.  Oscar loved the ocean.  His family were shipbuilders from Avennoria and he had been around the ocean all of his life.  He loved the smell of the fresh salt air, the feel of the wind blowing in his face, the rough texture of the ropes in his hands as he hauled up and down the mainsail of any ship he may be on.

Underneath the ocean, where most do not go, he saw the beauty of Ava there and of Bavaras, the God of the sea.  He remembered the first time he saw the bright colors of the many and varied sea life swimming in the ocean.  He recalled as a boy, how he would swim many depths down to collect oysters, looking for that elusive rainbow pearl.

But then reality overtook his musings and he was now an middle aged man helping a young man regain his rightful throne, choosing as had many others of his family for over two centuries to put back a Drafas on the throne of Strata.  He was willing, even to the point of dying himself, to defeat their respective enemy.

A man, a family; who first through hiring assasins, tried to murder all of the Royal family.  Seyella, goddess of Destiny, was on their side that night when the vaunted and myth laden "Templars of the Black Pearl" stalked the streets of Strata and the halls, corridors and bedrooms of the Royal household and their extended families.  Much wailing was heard the following morning when the dead were found.

Strata was then easily overrun by her enemies and the four ruling houses were set up.  But even then the family, the man, planned for their eventual demise.  Oh, he was a crafty one, he was.  He did not destroy the institution, he just made sure one of his own ruled the house and since he ruled the House of Justice, he could falsely imprison anyone he wanted, could trump up charges, kill with impunity and no one could stop him or his family.  Until the people had enough.

A rumor began spreading that a Drafas heir was alive and was coming back to regain his throne.  It gave the common people hope and to the criminal underground and especially the family, now ruled by Troas V, now called Troas the Scarred but not to his face, nightmares.  He was so called because of a scar that ran down his right cheek beginning just under his right eye and ending at his jaw line.  A scar that marred a handsome face.  A scar that the owner vowed vengence upon the person who had put it there.

A young Elven woman had caught his eye.  She was talking with her hands.  It seemed she was a mute and that started Oscar thinking.  She may be of use to the Resistance.  The only one of the group who seemed to understand her was a dwarf by the name of GrakanIronhand.  He stood as close as he could to Grakanand asked him.  "Who is she?" he asked.

Gararion still stood, his face cloaked within the shadows of his hood.  He moved only his eyes from member to member watching their movements.

Ever since that night when he was taken within the Uarná'ésh-dél Gararion new his live would change.  He now felt more power flowing within his viens.  He could feel the slightest displacement of air easier than he could ever before.  Though this may be a gift he also knew it was a barren.  He knew he was only given this chance because he was chosen by whomever it may have been that night.

Still unclear his mind ever pondering, thumbing through the knowledge that he had learned throughout his life, kept deep within his mind, safe from tampering with.  He constantly wondered what lies ahead of him...and who this pressence within him was and its reason for chosing him.  He only knew what his teacher and friend told him as he described it as his compass and to trust it for it was his only bearing to the path that had been chosen for him.  Gararion hoped that this path would be a path that lend insight to the mysterories that troubled his mind.

Gararion looked at the group once again, shifting his eyes from one figure to the next, his head remaining perfectly still.  The only movement visable about him was the cloak he wore flowing in the cool and refreshing ocean breeze.  Gararion thought to himself.

How can such a gathering of races succeed at a given task.  Surely this would not work.  But if this is the path that has been chosen for me then I shall follow it till I am shown a new path.  Surely there is meaning to this...meaning that I have yet to discover.....or learn...

Shaint had looked at both Gararion and Artii then moved is sight to Oscar and spoked.

Gararion was pleased to hear his words as it seemed that they would depart the tavern soon.  Gararion figured that Shaint had decided it would be best to travel through the night.  They would finally move on...closer to the end of the path that had been chosen for him.

NahorA dark cloaked figure sat atop a building facing the courtyard of the Thirsty Herald.  He sat motionless, his small, dark beady eyes taking in all that he could see.  Though he was too far away to hear anything he was quite curious about the crowd that had gathered about a fire in the middle of the courtyard.  He knew the Herald was a busy place, but at this hour of the night, and outside?

Nahor could only see shadows and shapes but from some of those shapes he could tell that at least one of those down there was a troll, for he was the largest being down there.  Nahor assumed it was a he, for he had never heard of a she troll going around by herself.  But what really peaked his curiousity was that no one was fighting!!!  A troll, amidst probably elves, humans, maybe even dwarves and no fighting? That is strange indeed.  Maybe strange enough to report back to his superiors?  Information that could possibly make him a rich man?  Who knew?  He had been watching the Herald for over a month now and all he saw were beings coming and going, fights, he liked the one between the giant and the humans.  But the giant had been defeated, and the humans had long left.  But there had been other fights and distractions to keep his job not too boring.  When he saw that young elven woman run in from the desert, when the dwarf authorities tried to find Robert Junakin, he wondered about that.  Especially when the dwarf came out empty handed.  He knew that Troas was looking for Robert and some one tipped Troas that Robert was staying at the Herald.  It was probably a false tip by some low life who wanted the reward.  Troas would surely have his tongue, literaly, by now.

He was not about to make the same mistake.  So he just sat there and watched.

Oscar Oscar smiled and faced the young elven woman. "Hello, my name is Oscar Lotus.  I am the owner of this establishment."  Oscar made a low bow and then straightened up.  "It is a pleasure to meet you.  May I ask what your name is and what brings you here in this hour of the night.  I have several rooms available, if you desire one."

As Oscar waited for her reply Shaint sidled up next to him and said "It is time to go."  Oscar nodded and whispered.  "Do you have all the personel you need?  Do you remember the password to Hashish?"

Oscar stood there waiting for both replies.  He looked around with his eyes, his head not moving.  I am not too sure about this crowd in my courtyard.  I may have to do something.  It is good that Shaint is ready to go.  Then this crowd will thin out some.  Hopefully the rest will leave.  Or I could open the inn long enough to offer the rest rooms for the night.  We shall see.

"Grakan Ironhammer." he replyed to Keelin as Oscar approached him and asked who the elf was.
"She says 'er name is Keelin." Grakan muttered."A sword for hire."
"How she gets many hirers though I dont know."
Grakan fell silent as an Elf approached. He fell silent as Oscar dealt with this newcomer.
Grakan discretely signed to Keelin "What are you doing here then?"

Shaint now with a serious look his sharp jaw shadowed by the darkness of night hisskin darkened greyish and blue of color, he looked to oscar solidly and nodded "Yes oscar",

Shaint was in clothing medium in weight of a pair of Leather leggings with more than a few plates about them of old greyish color worn little by the immense garins of sand they had seen or branches through wich he hopped threw within war, for a young elf he had seen war to many times before...

his upper body in a black velvet looking shirt that widens slightly at the wrist ontop of that upon his chest was a blacker colored chestplate on his back was a set of shoulder plates and a dark colored cape hanging from them, "Oscar i will try my best to not let you down i'm not sure what everyone else thinks......but......that is just my vow to you"

Gandoria glanced around the tavern, Grikkit was asleep next to him, the goblins eyes closed yet it was a simple light sleep. The ogre waved his hand above the goblin, and fast as a bolt he was awake and sitting up.

"Todays when we leave yeh?"
The ogre said to the Goblin
"I think so, wydyer think I ent had a drop to drink but water?"

Gandoria sat back looking slightly grim, and Grikkit went back to sleep.

Atrii stood next to Gararion and felt very annoyed with how slow this little task was beginning. Atrii believed that Gararion felt the same way as he stood their. Gararion seemed to be thinking of how this would turn out. Atrii turned away from the mage so he would not stare.
He relaxed his shoulders and felt weak standing waiting for something to happen before he fell asleep standing.

Radaroc looked up.  He had felt someone or something watching, he didn't know where or how but something was there in the darkness.
Get a hold of yerself Rad.  This is not the time to be imagning things. he told himself but he still could not shake the feeling.  He looked over the crowd assembled and saw Atri with his shoulders slumped.  He walked up next to him,
"There is something out there." he muttered out of the corner of his mouth quietly, gazing out of the courtyard, "Do you feel it?  Something is watching us and it does not wish us good fortune." Slowly Radaroc's hand moved to his sword pommel, it did not do to be unprepared

Shaints right ear slightly flickered as it often did in a serious conflict just as this but it was different and then his lft one twitched, Shaint heard something like the roucghness of the roof getting grained against the bottom of  someones worn boot he looked to his hands and tighted to red strapping gauntlets he had put on witha silver colored backing for cover cut off at the fingers,

and glanced up into the sky stars like diamonds shimmering over but his ears stopped twithing and he glanced off and grabbed the tip of a knife secretly burried in his guantlet making what looked like an ordinay scratch he saw a darker spot in the sky that made the taverns roof look like it had a slight bump in it, he spoke in a hard whisper "Oscar...Have you allways had a bump of dark color on your roof of the tavern??"

Atrii looked up at his new companion Radaroc.
"I know what you mean," Atrii confessed to the troll."I have felt a blanket of darkness grip this party. It's grip is getting tighter the closer we get to beginning our journey."
Atrii looked down at his feet and kicked up some dust from the ground.
"What do you make of it?"Atrii asked the troll looking up into the enormous creatures friendly face.

Radaroc looked down at the lightly built human, "Aye, something is wrong...or out of place.  To me it seems that we are about to go through some perilous times.  But this "blanket of darkness" you talk about, what do you mean by that?  Is it these "authorities" I have heard about as they do not seem to be liked."  Once again the troll felt someone was watching them, but he decided to simply stay watchful and be ready rather then to openly begin to search for them.

"I am not sure what the blanket of darkness is..." Atrii trailed off slowly as he felt a cold chill shoot up his spine. The ranger shook it off and continued."I just feel that something that is waiting for us out there...somewhere...wherever we may travel during this journey..." Atrii once again trailed off as the cold chill seemed to clamp his heart.
Pain surged through his vains, Atrii silently gasped for air. The chill lifted from his heart and went back through his spine and vacated his body.
What will occur here... what was that cold chill?

Radaroc heard Shaint's sword ring as it was unsheathed.  He pulled his own sword from it's scarab that hung across his back.  Holding it loosely in a two-handed grip he looked back to Atri, "On that point I agree with you but I do believe we have company, so I suggest that you loosen that sword in it's sheath as I expect you'll find a use for it soon."  Radaroc followed Shaint's gaze and saw a unusual shape on the roof.
Shaint is waiting, but for what?  Oh well, He thought. since he's the leader I'll wait for him to make the first move.
