Elvish word, literally meaning "[the things/persons] touched (hárf) through (á) ourselves [chón]". The real meaning of the word exceeds the literal translation and can be interpreted as "a (material or spiritual) being/thing which is influenced by elven magic". Originally there is no negative or positive value associated to this elven influence.

At the time of the Age of the Blood the meaning of the word was associated to the negative (in the sense of "victim"), which resulted probably by the use of the word by the more and more prevailing humans, who looked down on the elves, always filled with contempt when confronted with this very powerful race concerning their magical abilities. Finally the negative meaning also was accepted and used by the elves themselves. Since the Age of Blood this contemptuous meaning of the word exists together with the original.
