Title: Geography of Aeruillin
Post by: Lucius Helvil on 26 July 2005, 12:29:00
I came to inquire about the landscape of Aeruillin. I know that it is a desert but what kind? Are there sand dunes? My main question is are there any areas with plateus and mesas, with steep cliffs on the side? Thank you.

We will decide that as we come to develope certain areas. But generally you can see on the main Aeruillin map, where there is a sand desert, and where more a stony, partly green desert. There are mountains as well.
So far Aeruillin is a partly closed continent, for the main energy in developing things should go into Santharia, so we didn't give much thought yet to single areas and don't plan it in the near future (there are more important things to do first and to decide first).
If you need a steep cliff at a later time to develope something, we can surely create one, or say, that there is one (f.e. at the north coast of the Dark Sea)

Do you have any ideas for a steep cliff in the desert? Maybe (but just maybe ;)  ) I could add one in the Rahaz Dath.

Well I was thinking along the lines of an area with many cliffs. Right now I am on the track of seige weapons. And for Aeruillin regular weapons would not work because they would sink in the sand. So I came up with this idea of a hang glider, that could drop small rocks or a clay jar filled with oil and has a wick, so it would cause a fire. Also I suppose a mage could go up in one and attack from there. But anyway, could I go ahead and assume that there are cliffs on the contient. If so could you give me an idea as to what kingdom or city?

Thank you

Lucius, I don't think, that Aeruillin is already in a state, where it can make use of such weapons. We have some tribes, but just one or two places developed. Some history of the Ordions and the Thairans. We could of course say, that there is a small cliff between the cities of Shan'thai and Ordana, but how your device could be used, no idea - I would have to reread the history of both and look, where it could be incorporated - and then Artemis has to accept it, for these are her tribes - a lot of time needs to be invested to do this proberly and I don't have it in the moment.

It won't fit for the Rahaz-Dath either, sorry, not at the place i thought of. Maybe Nybelmar? Please ask there.

Ok, well Nybelmar is sutible for regular seige weapons. Aeruillin however is not. The use of this glider would be to drop objects from above. Weather it be an old version of a Moltof Coctail or rocks or spells. But cliffs are required for lift off. I am just talking about a cliffy region. Not a single cliff. Nor do I mean to have it in a story.

So, is it ok to assume that there are cliffs here?

There are surely some clifs somewhere in aeruillin, Lucius, but you can't develop a weapon if the society is not constructed which would use it - or not. Maybe there is a ban for weapns which come "from above", for we will have a flying race. So please no assumptions in this respect. It is not time yet to think in Aeruillin in such details.

The main developement place should still be Santharia, Lucius.
