Pfft, this has been underway since 2006, and among other things it lead to the entire Serphelorian tribe entry, so I think it's got a fair way to go before I despair.  I'm far more likely to despair of ever finishing that picture of the mountains... THAT is my bugbear!  lol

First post updated with the contents of my word doc currently.

The description is coming along nicely, but as you can see I have a way to go in some areas.  There's a lot of notes and other people's posts in there, which I am trying to incorporate; just for an idea of waht I want to include.

Going to try to avoid writing more than 1-2 Corens (they are still a standard unit of measurement, right?  1 Coren - 20,000 words? lol ) so we'll see if that makes this finish-able.

Ah, I am too late to get this linked to the Grasslands of Hylach, I see.  But thank you for writing a grass, Amabella!

Chrondra is still in very much in progress, I promise!  I'm working away at it every week - it just takes a while when you have 8600 words and a billion entries which tie into it... I'm trying to "keep it simple" so that the entry is readable and not too massive, too.  It's still a challenge but not as daunting as it was a few years ago.  That picture, on the other hand... >_<  Still a struggle.  It's in my mind though!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeee oh my goodness, it's more fantastical and dramatic than I ever imagined.  The hulk-roofs and glittery oyster-shell cladding are all there, and the murkiness of the city in the distance gives the feeling of some parts being hospitable, with others less so.  It really has the feeling of a barely-civilised ex-pirate's port.  Fantastic, Seeker.  I'm absolutely thrilled.  I feel like you've taken my description and built upon it to make it something better than either of us (well, me at least) could have come up with alone. pet pet pet

I like the sky brown, but I agree with Talia in regard to having something to focus on.  At the moment my eye is drawn to the archway under the Temple, and the building on the far left.  You might be able to find a quick fix for this, but an option which springs to my mind would be to extend the picture a little more to the left, and maybe put a (rotting?) sign on the far-left building which says something like "Customhouse Marduran" or "Pay Your Arrival Tax" or something equally unhospitable.

Having said that, I just viewed the picture in a smaller window to see how it would look nestled in the entry, and I think where the eye rests might not be so much of a problem in that format.  So maybe take my thoughts as more of an option than any sort of strong suggestion.

A somewhat unsettling picture for a "goat" of a city.  Hehe.

Thanks Shabakuk!  It's good to be back.  I don't really create when there's no-one prodding me to do so (so if you need a character portrait for the RP side, let me know haha), so ti's nice to be doing something with my time again.  Fingers crossed I can keep it up (hence no triumphant "I RETURN PUNY MORTALS" post, as I find they are generally ill-fated  :P ).

The port city of Marduran!

Having sneakily put the idea in Seeker's head when he came by my Chrondra thread, and having now discovered this thread, I thought I should reiterate it here.

A view of the whole city could be accomplished by drawing it from a ship at sea.  The city looks like a gentle, jumbled, sparkly landslide.  The picture could also have Clendor tower in it, and/or the city's Temple of Grothar, so it has good potential for re-use  Big Grin

Not sure if this would be at all helpful, but I have posted ages ago here, some maps of Serphelorian territory over the years.  If you download them you can flick trough them and see the changes over time  :)  They correspond to what I wrote for the Serphelorians, so they're canonical for what's on site (or rather what was on site when I was last writing - I'm not sure what ever came of Nsiki and his Eyelian adventures - I think he was contradicting stuff I wrote last time I looked at his stuff, so  you may need to take that into account).

Exciting to see this in development!  Will be nice to have something concrete about your Himiko, too!

Ooh, thanks Seeker, I didn't realise/remember/know that that had gone up!  I didn't see Chrondra on there, but it's a good reference.  And, with the empty round frame, reminds me that I do need to do some more work on Crazy Woman Pass haha.

I'd love to see Chrondra illustrated once it's done.  It's been an ongoing headache for... what... six years now?  lol  So I am excited to have found some time to work on it again.  There should be plenty of pretty outlooks to draw - the Docks will be an interesting place, as will the fruit orchards with the view toward the walls, and the City Square with its statues and ancient architecture.

Although, if you're after something to draw, may I point out that my Marduran is still rather unillustrated?  Hehehe  Big Grin

Hey kids.  Doing some work on this today (shh, I know there's the picture to work on too, but I figure if I can do some work on Santharia, that is better than none, right?  Hehe).

Since the last update, we have developed the Serphelorians and their history, and decided when Chrondra was founded and by whom (no Darians - it's as part of a treaty between Sophronia and Avennoria).  I am now just trying to figure out how big the city should be, and who lives there.

I want Chrondra to be a relatively big city, as it's been around a long time (pre-WoTC) and there's a university-sort-of-place there, and it's the seat of the person who runs the Grassen Steading.  However, I think it's probably meant to be smaller than Marcogg (which, as we know, already has numbers-trouble).  According to this thread, Marcogg should be around 25 000 people strong, so I'm imaging Chrondra could be about 15 000 people.  It's quite a different city in character to Marcogg, and central in the Kingdom, so I think the area can support that population.

Just some thoughts as I get into this!  :)

Hey kids,

It's been a while!  Artimidor found my Deviant Art site, and asked if he could use on Santharia a pic which I have displayed there - it's of Crazy Woman Pass.  Lucky he asked, because I'd hate for that one to have gone up.  I've done a lot more work on it, off and on, in the years since I posted it there, and I still can't get it quite right.  It's been something of a bugbear of mine.   Happily it's looking much better than the one I have up on DA, at least.  So here, for your comments, critique, and general kicking-Grun-up-the-ass, is what I have so far.  Any hints and ideas would be most welcome, though I can't promise to be super-fast with my replies.  Hugs to all who have missed me  :)  heart
