1  Santharian World Development / Santharian Artists Workshop and Resources / Re: Chyrakisth Orc Pic on: 12 July 2009, 18:30:11
I'm a bit late on this one, but I really have to log in and say: Brilliant!!!

I love the pose, the look, the details on his armor (the glyph on the chest and the inscriptions), excellent!

As to his "not-so-orcish" look... well, as the entry says, Chyrakisth Orcs is just a manner of saying. They're a sort of distant cousins to Murmillions, both being results of Menemronn's dealings in Nybelmar. I think Seeker caught the right "essence" out of that entry (I think I said before, that he really knows how to read them :) and if I didn't, well, there you go :D)

Once again

That sounds excellent :)

Here's one more link to something we were thinking about Benderrans that you should be aware of: http://www.santharia.com/dev/index.php/topic,3706.0.html

(you can save the link and delete this post if you want to unclutter the thread)

I really like the way you work, you pay a lot of attention to the written entries and your talent seems to just... flow freely :)

I like the blurred branches in the front, it's a really nice way to simulate perspective. I can see how this one was a bit hard to draw if I'm thinking at how there would be no way to show what exactly is the creature doing with that fish. But that's why we still need to read the entries and not just look at the pictures :P

I'm really curious what you're going to draw next... (*tries to appear casual* "Oh, this little bugger http://www.santharia.com/bestiary/eye_crab.htm was just following me around, really, he's mostly harmless, there's nothing to worry about...")

PS: You do have a white stripe on the bottom right margin that probably shouldn't be there.

Here's a nice (kinda) off-topic:

Daedhirian: Oh Sweetie, how many times do I have to tell you?
Sweetie (his Black Unicorn): Hrmmph?
Daedhirian: Look. Carcass on the ground: food. Carcass walking around: not food!
Sweetie: Om nom nom nom nom...
Daedhirian: All right, that's it! If you don't stop I'm gonna deal in golems from now on!
Sweetie: *starts squealing*

:P

I think it looks great now ;) Quite a bit scary I'd say, as it should be :D Changing the position of the legs made the claws look really good. Also the mouth is better now. A good looking beast that you don't wanna be around :P

Hey there Seeker *waves*

I absolutely love the background on this one! The unicorn looks good too, you're watching it and you feel that there's something wrong and can't tell what, but then you realize that it is as disproportionate as the entry describes them to be! I would have two suggestions but as I don't know anything about digital drawing I have no idea if they'd work or not.

The front legs, I'm thinking, could be a bit longer, or better, maybe you could elongate the claws quite a bit, to match the length of the back legs - this way she would keep the dragony look and become even more eerie when you'd try to imagine her normally walking.

The face muscles are so well defined that I don't know if this one would work: maybe you could add more teeth/fangs, therefore giving her a wider and more ferocious mouth?

Oh, and I'm also thinking that if you give her teeth and horn a yellowish look would somehow point to her scavenging nature. I might be wrong on this one though.

All in all it's a good work here, and as the one that wrote this creature I can only be excited seeing it come alive :D

Oh... yes, indeed *grins*

PS: btw, I posted a short comment on your nomads proposal - it's a big project there if you follow my suggestion, but someone needs to start it.

hey there, Deci ;)

An interesting approach here, a sort of a Bathory take on the vampire myth combined with a romantic aura and maybe some hints at a certain contemporary subculture :)

I know there was a decision a while ago not to have vampires in Caelereth but this is not a vampire per se, but rather an individual's story with some influences coming from that direction. I kinda like the story, made me chuckle on several occasions :)

I would imagine he would be tolerated but laughed at by most Daedhirians - he does have similar purposes as they have but his methods would appear to them at least strange. Maybe you can place him under that Lady's protection (which would also explain how he got his castle there).

PS: (you say at some point: "Drakus, in his naivety, exasperates his condition." Maybe you meant to say "exacerbates?")

*applaudes*

Really nice drawing, and a pleasant surprise for me to see how writing becomes image :) Now I can't wait for you to come up with a black unicorn drawing... :D

I'm late to the party here, but I have to say that I really enjoyed this. Fantasy philosophy is one of my favorite genres (if we can call it as such :P) and if I recall it's what sparkled my interest for the Santharian project in the first place (Arti's wonderful work on Ava and the likes :) ).

It's full of philosophers' "inside jokes" as well - which is great imo :))

Like:
Quote
Korania, tragically, was disgraced and discredited after the publishing of his most famous work, ‘The Pointlessness of Our Philosophy’, wherein he referenced practically every respected philosophical concept and argued it was useless and had no bearing on anything in reality, essentially arguing that pursuing philosophical truth was an ineffectual waste of time.
Rudolf Carnap FTL if I may say so... rofl

...or another one that made me "rofl" literally (although this one goes to Arti):
Quote
it could also be written in a more poetic form, so that you don't hear Hegel stomping around in the background talking about the "Weltgeist"
I'm still laughing at this one :D

I've actually read this a while ago, but didn't comment on it :(

Anyway, I only have to say that I like the way you shape these people and I think your entries show a lot of quality.  thumbup

PS: you know, I even agreed with your idea of having some Daedhirians around there (out of sight though - not that anyone would like to see them). :)

Interesting name you have there Kalo :)

You do have a few awkward formulations there, but I'd say go ahead and finish it and then we can look at them.

I would say that Zhun might be better suited for this and Decipher seems to like it anyway. We might think of more R'unorian influences for Miraran's people (or anything he would like actually - I'm not trying to interfere :P).

E-mail Koldar (aka Rakshiri now). I know he still had the original photoshop file and I guess he still does. The file is quite big though. If Koldar doesn't have it or he's not answering, try asking Arti as he might actually have it as well.
