That is a great idea.  I will try to take a look at the fire spells, and more closely at the magic systems in general.

So I will  do an update to add the fire spell creation portion into this entry.

I took some creative license with this entry in attempt to make it more interesting without making it more powerful as a Demon.

3  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Bestiary / THE MEPHGUÓUR - Update on: 27 January 2003, 16:56:00
THE MEPHGUÓUR
Basic Overview of the Beast
(Elvish: "devoured by hellfire") Mephguóurs are lesser kinds of demons, also called man-demons. They are in fact living people, who were magically transformed. They appear in the typical form of men with reddish skin, which is either glowing or in some cases even burning unceasingly, depending on the general alignment of the person before the spell of transformation was cast upon it..

Such demons were mainly used in ancient times by dark sorcerers as guidance for more powerful creatures conjured directly from the depths of hell in order to fulfill the evil purposes assigned to them by the mages. Mephguóurs were a common sight during the War of the Chosen and because they seldom could be spotted alone in open field their appearance usually indicated that greater demons or even whole armies of undead warriors were following.

Appearance
A Mephguóur being a magical creature stands as high as the person that it is transform from(creatures with lifemagic abilities are immune to this transformation).  Rarely larger than 2.5 peds or shorter than 1.5 peds.  Mephguóurs are completely void of hair of any kind.  Their bodies are built and resembles a lean version of the person transformed, and are muscle and bone only.  Their eyes are transformed into glowing yellow-red orbs and their teeth and gums are fused together to form an upper and lower mound of flesh and bone.  While the hands of the transformed person doubles in size, their fingernails extend about one palmspan in length, are razor sharp, and become their primary weapon.  The toenails also vary by doubling in  length  Mephguóurs have reddish skin which is either appears to be glowing(if they were originally Good) or engulfed by flames of fire(if they were originally Chaotic).  Which is why they are sometimes called “fire-demons”

Mephguóurs have no need for clothing or armor, however they have been known to don metallic armor, especially breast plates and chain skirts.
Special Abilities

Mephguóurs have the ability of combustion and burning.  All of their special abilities are related to this ability.  Combustion refers to the ability to cause living things to begin to burn from the inside out and eventually burst into flames.  This is the primary use of their long fingernails.  The Mephguóurs has the ability to concentrate and set any living thing on fire.  However, this ability has only been found when the Mephguóur has been created from a human, elf.  This is one of the reasons why most Mephguóurs resemble elves and humans.  Most Mephguóurs are essentially human because the transformation process retains the intelligence of the transformed person.  Humans have the best intelligence/age/size combination of all of the races.

Mephguóurs have one primary attack, that is with their fingernails.  Slashing is their preferred method of attacking any thing that interferes with its objective.  Their second attack is done by grabbing its prey and inserting its fingernails into the prey and causing the Combustion process to begin.  The Combustion process usually takes 1 minute for a man sized creature and 1 extra minute or more for creatures larger than man size (2 peds) depending on size category.

Territory
Mephguóurs do not have the a particular territory, however, currently,  they are mostly encountered in the Orc territories and in underground caverns. However they can be found in any area that is compatible with the place that they were created.  They are normally created for a specific purpose and normally will never travel without direction of their creator.  However the area where they live are primarily void of natural life.  The Territory that the Mephguóur exist in is defined by their creator and if the Mephguóur leave this Territory, they are immediately destroyed.

Habitat/Behavior
Mephguóurs behavior is purposeful, it is follows the directions of their creator.  Whatever tasks, goals or directions  the creator gives is pursued relentlessly.  The Mephguóurs  will use any and all means that he can intelligently figure out to accomplish his given instructions.  Mephguóurs loose all requirements for social interaction, their only thought is to accomplish the directions of their creator.  Several Mephguóurs can work together to accomplish a goal if they have the same creator and the same objectives.  Normally one of the Mephguóurs will take the lead for coordinating their activities.

Mephguóurs rest in a standing position and when resting the lower half of their bodies are consumed in flames.  Also Mephguóurs do not require sleep so when resting they are always alert.  Their hands are always held downward and slightly forward of their waist, palms out and fingers and fingernails extended.

Mephguóurs has the same speed as the speed of the man that they were transform from and retains all of their skills and knowledge, including their language skills.  These skills and knowledge are used in accomplishing their goals.  Their primary tools are all metal as Mephguóurs have the insatiable need to burn anything that it can.

Diet
Mephguóurs do not have a great need to feed(complete the combustion process), however they are nourished through the combustion process.  Mephguóurs will attempt to cause anything into the combustion process.  This includes other Mephguóurs, plants, animals, clothing, etc.    The combustion process is self feeding, in that, the more it is accomplished the more efficient the Mephguóur becomes with it.  Each Mephguóur has a feeding schedule, once a day, once a month or once a year.  A Mephguóur that does not enter the combustion process in 7 of these scheduled periods will die of starvation.

Mating
Mephguóurs do not have the need to mate, however they may be paired with another Mephguóur at the time of their creation, otherwise they never unite with another Mephguóur unless directed to by their creator.

Myth/Lore/Origin (Optional)
As has been mentioned already the main difference between the typical kind of demons and the Mephguóurs is that the latter are not summoned from other planes, but result from transformed human beings of this plane. Dark sorcerers can concentrate the amount of the Element of Fire within a human body in such a way that the body reflects it outwardly, thus turning the being into a creature of Fire. The spell cannot be undone, or at least there are no reports of healings from this spell. The explanation for this irreversibility maybe can be found in the philosophical arguments of the elven sage Celedor, who interprets - according to his race's point of view - the alignment as the state a subject has towards the elements:

"Alignment is a very personal thing. However, there are magical means how alignments can be forced in a certain direction violently. Human sorcerers at the time of the War of the Chosen found ways to force an individual to deny the powers of certain elements within the one on whom the spell is cast upon, this way e.g. turning a human into a creature of Fire, a man-demon, or to stone (in the case of an Earth transformation). The spell is very powerful, draining lots of energies from the caster, and will only work properly if there is a certain affinity towards the remaining element within the target - if not, the victim is likely to die instantly. According to the already mentioned fact that alignments cannot be changed very easily it is also nearly impossible to restore the initial state of a being whose existence has been reduced to a certain element. Even with magical means it is not possible to bring a Xeuá (the spirit of one's self), which has suffered terribly, back to life."

-- Celedor: "Of the Elements", p. 122

As Celedor stated in order to perform such a transformation spell successfully it is said that the victim has to be of dark intent, that his soul has to be a dark one before the spell is cast. This is also the reason why transformations of elves, who are beings of pure spirit, are very unlikely to happen, orcs on the other hand can be transformed easily. However, the latter happened very seldom in the War of the Chosen, because the ancient Warlords needed the intelligence of human Mephguóurs dearly. However, like other demons Mephguóurs are difficult to control and can eventually also turn against the spellcaster, who created the creature.

Mephguóurs are destroyed when their creator dies, the exception to this case, is when the Mephguóur kills its creator.  When a Mephguóur is created he has a wish to destroy its creator and this desire grows over time.  The ability to resist this desire is determined on the length of existence of the Mephguóur and their alignment.  When the Mephguóur destroys their creator they are freed to persue their goals, tasks, and directions.  Once their final  task is completed they also are destroyed and can be considered to have died from natural causes.

Mephguóurs are quite immune to normal fire, and highly resistant to magical fire effects.  This depends on the level of the mage that created it.  Mephguóurs are susceptible to things that effect fire,  such as water and water effects, and wind and wind effects.  Water and Wind  and their effects may hurt the Mephguóur but events that can snuff out the fire in the Mephguóur destroys the Mephguóur.  Therefore, Drowning and Suffocation are the primary methods of destroying the Mephguóur.

Usages (Optional)
Mephguóurs are primarily used to protect a mages secrets, so they have the special purpose of being excellent and easily maintainable guards.  Either for Mages and additionally for greater demons.  They have been used in the past to lead forces of undead and bands of Orcs.  So they are cable of leading small forces.  However they are currently used as guards and protectors for mages and other demons as well as for objects and treasures.

I tried to keep everything that the original author had created and expand a bit on that concept.

There were a couple of things that could have been done to create a better Santharian intergration and history  but that will take me longer to get a good fix.

I did not want to sit on this to long and thought that I should get something up and then we can work from there.

Hopefully.

7  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Bestiary / MANTICORE - Update Review on: 17 January 2003, 17:37:00
MANTICORE

The Manticore is - like e.g. the Griffon - a strange and nowadays very rare combination of two or more common Aér'aí'chán beasts, in this case obviously of a Oracau and a Gryph, sometimes of a Scorpion too. Manticores possess the complete body of the predator but are also endowed with enormous wings, furthermore - although this may vary - they can have a lethally spiked tail which reminds of the mentioned scorpion. Very seldom Manticores can be spotted who have an uncouth Mannish head and who also possess the ability to speak. These exceptions may eventually result of an ancient curse. The latter creatures are all deemed to be of evil nature, whereas the typical Manticore cannot be categorized per se in this way.

Appearance
As the Manticore mainly is a lion it also has most of its abilities and advantages, but although a dangerous foe the Manticore has not the agility seen at the lion itself. Many descriptions in the old books tell that the heavy wings mostly hinder the beast to lead quick attacks with its claws. The attack with its spiked, poisonous tail seems to be the most effective weapon the beast possesses. As for the wings which make the Manticore so impressive: They allow the Manticore only to fly short distances, which often is enough to catch the prey in an unexpected moment.

The Manticore has a natural vermillion color and stands between 1.3 and 2 peds in height at the shoulder, a length of up to 3 peds, and also has a wingspan of up to 5 peds. The Manticore has huge jaws that holds three rows of razor-sharp teeth, upper and lower, that interlocks when the beast closes its mouth. The teeth could shred flesh and bone to shards without effort.

There are two breeds of Manticore, those with Scorpion tails and the even rarer Manticore with dragon tails.  Dragon tailed Manticore has the speed and agility of normal lions and can fly 4 times as far as the scorpion tailed Manticore or 1.2 dashes. The wings of the Dragon tailed Manticore may be like the wings of a dragon.

Special Abilities
The Manticore has two primary methods of attacking its prey.  One method is to pounce on its prey by jumping or flying on top of the prey, knocking its prey to the ground and biting its neck.

Manticore’s really are to big to fly as birds do, however they can glide.  They have the ability to run and then leap and glide for 30 peds at a time, or to glide down from a perch.  The dragon tailed Manticore can actually fly for 1.2 dashes.

The other attack method is the more commonly seen, tail attack, where the tail is whipped releasing 1 - 6 poisonous spikes to kill or paralyze its prey.  The tail of the scorpion tailed Manticore can be used to sting it prey as well.

The Manticore is an intelligent beast and uses various pack attack methods.  Furthermore the Manticore has - like all cats - a remarkable ability to see in the dark (darkvision) and often is not alone when hunting...  Manticore also retains the stealth ability of cats.

Manticore’s have the ability to speak, but would rather eat someone than chat, additionally they have a keen sense of smell.  It is said that the manticore can smell the blood of its prey.

One more thing needs to be mentioned here: It is very unlikely that Manticores have magical abilities on their own, however, many pictures show these beasts as pets of witches or powerful sorceresses, to whom they seem to have developed a certain affinity. The reason for this is as unexplainable as their true origin, but there sure is much more in respect of this peculiarity than just the need of the artist to let an innocent maiden pose near a symbol of manlyhood.

Territo
There has been stories of the Manticore as living in a large variety of territories around the world, but it is has been many years since they have been seen roaming of living above ground.

They mostly can be encountered in underground sewers, caverns or also at crypts or ruins and feast on the flesh of creatures they kill. And tamed Manticores prefer to be housed in large caves or caverns, but enjoy having access to sunlight.

Manticores considers all land within 12 leagues as their territory, and their prime hunting grounds.

Habitat/Behavi
Manticore’s life in a pride of up to five total Manticores,  The males are the hunter and the fierce protectors of the pride.  The females also assist in the hunting and caring for the pride.  Manticores rest in shifts of 8 -12 hours, however there is always one Manticore awake.

While the Manticore can hunt effectively on its own, it prefers to hunt in packs of 2, 3, or the more rarely 5 Manticore pack.

Manticore prides without cubs tend to eat their prey where they kill them, but if there are cubs in the pride then the prey is always brought back to the lair .  While the male Manticores are the primary hunters, they always wait for the females and the cubs to eat before they eat.

Rarely are there two male adult Manticore’s in the same pride, Males strive to kill each other when they meet.

Manticores have been known to collect the valuables of their prey.  They are intelligent enough to know that people value things.  While they may not understand what those things are for, Manticores collect the valuables of their pray and keep them in their lair’s. Manticores have been known to use these valuables to set traps for unwary travelers. Most Manticore lair’s have small treasures, the lairs with the longest history may have the wealth fit for kings.

Di
Manticore’s  prefer to eat meat, of any kind, and the fresher the better.  Manticores usually capture a prey once every two weeks, and can live without food for almost a month, while they can just as easily eat 3 or more meals in a day. The Manticore was said to relish feasting on humans, elves and dwarves, and while the smaller races were considered neat snacks.

Typically they would hunt and eat any best the size of a large horse or smaller.  As this was the size of beast that two Manticores and devour in one meal.  Larger animals will be hunted if the Manticore is in a party of more than two.  They did not store their food, as the refuse to eat anything that has been dead for more than one day.

Mati
Manticores mate for life and usually have a litter of 1 or 2 cubs at a time.  Most Manticore cubs are primarily female with perhaps a male cub born once in every 3 births.  Manticore mates will only have one litter at a time.  And only 1 litter every 7 to 8 years as there is always a period of 2 or more years between litters..  Clubs reach adulthood in 5 years, and are encouraged to find their way in the world.  Some female cubs stay with the pride until a suitable mate if found.  While the female is carrying, the male will hunt for her and clean her repeatedly.  Both parents equally contribute to the cubs growth.

Female Manticores only take one mate and that will be the only mate that she will have for the duration of her life.  Males primarily have 1 mate but  have been known to have up to 3 mates.  Still a lost mate is never replaced.

Myth/Lore/Origin (Optiona
The origin of the Manticores is completely unknown. However, the beasts are mentioned in several mythological stories written down in the M?ne'téka and which all take place long before the often cited War of the Chosen where many creatures were bred who seem to contradict nature's course (e.g. the Centaur). This may lead to the assumption that the Manticore roamed the vast lands of Aér'aí'chán from the beginning of time, but couldn't survive in the many ages and hence seems to be extinct by now.

Researcher
While from time to time reports of Manticores show up, none of these reports have been substantiated.  They may be extinct or solely under the care of sorcerers.

Hello Artimidor and Greybark.  I am still alive and kicking, but I have not been online all that much in a while.

Hopefully in the next few weeks or so, I will be able to become an internet resident again(smile).  Right now, I am still not able to get online every day.

I think that the idea is sound but the implementation will need some work.  It seems that to do a martial art will require a combination of Warrior/Magic abilities and may be over powering. At least that is what I gathered from all of the push-back.

Qi-Gong may work but it would mostly be a reputation kind of things.  For example,  a warrior may specialize in a certain kind of attack, the kind of thing that you would see in many of the Video Games.    Most of the characters have a few special attacks that they can use that other fighters may not have.

But mostly, as far as I can see right now, it is an RP thing.

Perhaps, if Uragel thinks that it would be a good idea, I can write something up for it, and send it to her,  It would be similar to creating different fighting styles.

I agree,  I think that to create a full fledge Martial Arts System, may require more than what first apperars.  It may require more thought and effort to keep it balance and from being abused.

Qi-Gong, is fine, I think that may have to do.

As I read the overview of the Iteh, it looks alot like basic martial arts, and gymnastics.  "Physical exercises designed to develop and display strength, balance, and agility" really correspond to Chi-Kung in RL, which are the basic exercise for martial arts, although health and longevity is included in most descriptions of Chi-gong/Chi-Kong/Chi-kung.......

The description of the Iteh accurately describes Tai-Chi and Bagua, especially in the graceful, discipline departments, and while they have weapons, weapons are secondary to these martial arts.  Both of these arts have high requirements in the Body Mechanics departments so taking advantage of the strengths and weakness of opponents are actually apart of thier training,  San Shou is the name of the training that developes proficiency in this area.

Both of these arts use Chi which is an internal energy, life-force, etc and use Dim-Mak which is striking vital organs in combat.   Bagua is especially known for its evasiveness,  Tai-chi for its yeilding nature and Hsing-Yi for its effectiveness.  All of them have healing properties.

In santharia, it looks like one or two of them can be incorporated to become an advanced version of the Iteh.  Allowing for "Monk" or martial arts type caracters found in other RPG systems.  Especially 3ed/ Wizards of the Coast.

In reality,  I am not all that sure how to make it all fit in but it is an idea that I would like to explore.  I want to be able to create an advanced version of the Iteh and then email it to you.  My problem is that chi is not known in Santharia and which puts somewhat of a damper on things, neither is the Dim-Mak so I would have to workout those things first.    I do not know how un-armed combat is going to be handled but or martial arts abilities should be handled but it can be tied to the Kaerian ranking system.

Shameless Plug

Haavin mentions Juilong which is a form of Bagua that is taught internationally by John Painter from Texas,  and it is his version of Nine-Dragon Bagua.  Although some of the stuff haavin mentions in his description is knew to me.

Anyone that is taking Bagua, Tai-Chi, Hsing-Yi, should take one of his classes, you will learn more in a weekend that many people will learn in 10 years.

How about Bagua and Hsing-yi,  Tai-Chi's Sister and Little brother.

Bagua is an incredible Martial Arts, that specializes in fighting more than one opponent.

Hsing-Yi is another secondary art that used to be the primary fighting style of many bodyguards in china not too long ago.
