My record is about 65+ tabs simultaneously I think. But that was back when I read more comics. Maybe it was more back in the days I played some browsered based game :) For Santharia I think the max would have been something between 20-30 or so (without counting other tabs like gmail). But then I tend to open all topics I want to read first and then start reading them.

I was thinking of 'maybe possible' concerning non-living objects. People is just too complicated to even consider. Dividing things like a skill in two for example makes no sense.

For the lower level mages who have just learned the spell, the object needs to be within 1/2 a ped for the light to be sustained. The higher levels can have it up to 3 peds, and a few extremely powerful have been known to light an object even 10 peds away.

I would change it to beginning mages needing contact with the object and high level mages only needing a line of sight.

Casting Procedure: The mage has to be touching the target while saying the formula. What happens, more or less, is that the ouns of fire are increased, and in doing so, the object glows and gives light to the caster and the nearby area.

I would go for sphere I and simply have the mage increase the properties of the ounia (this is done be strengthening the links), not the ounia itself.

Reagents: The item that makes this spell useful - it does not require additional reagents. I'm guessing that this spell probably actually does need reagents. Is there a listing of reagents, or should I find a way to make some up (a.k.a. use magather or another burning stone) Wait! how would "rubbing sulfur on the object to be lighted helps the duration of the spell" be?

Maybe something about the medium could be said here? Are all objects equally easy to cast the spell on? I'd imagine that (if it would be sphere I) objects with much fire ounia present might be easier to cast the spell on/generate more light.

Spell Class: Enchantment. Huh? Is this irrelevent now?

If you go by sphere I it would be something like 'Pyrification, Physical Respresentation of Incandescence (Sphere I)'. See the Fire magic entry for the names.

Range: The caster has to be in contact with the target - after it is lit it must be kept in half a pedís range for the lower level; up to 5 peds for the skilled mages. If the target is moved out of this radius the light dies out.

I'd say the range for upkeeping and lighting would be the same (see comment on duration).

Casting Time: 5 seconds

We use blinks instead of seconds.

Duration: The spell will last a very long time without much work. Time durations usually only apply to mages just learning the spell. Level 2 mages can sustain this for half an hour when they first learn it, and all other levels up to level 5 can sustain the spell around 2 hours. I basically just built on what was already here and tried to make it more realistic.

I would have this spell sphere I as I said before. Sphere I requires constant concentration to last though. As soon as the mage stops casting the spell would die out fast. More experienced mages should be able to keep such a simple spell up pretty much indefinitely though.

Counter Measures/Enhancing Measures: If the caster has a clear crystal he can make it glow; then the light will be focused trough he crystal and shine stronger.

Just thought of something. If you were a mage capable of sphere III castings you could stuff a crystal with fire ounia and sell it to newbie mages so they would be able to use this spell with almost no effort (so they could study at nigh for example).

Perhaps. It would depend on whether the total number of ounia present made a difference or not (otherwise halving the amounts wouldn't give two entities equal to the previous).

Even gifted people (as in great with magic, not necessarily those that could do some uncontrolled magic without learning anything) would waste time learning more then a single element. It's the difference between becoming good at one element or just so-so at two.

Edit: I didn't necessarily think of forbidding it, but rather looking down on those that choose to waste their time.

I think Sphere I would be the easiest for this: augmenting fire properties in the air to create light (so no gathering required). It wouldn't even have to be a sphere emitting light but it could even be just an area lighting up. It would require constant concentration though (but then so are Sphere II spells), so inexperienced low level mages wouldn't really be able to read or study while casting.

You wouldn't be trying to outdo those that have been her longer. The currently entry is simply outdated and should be updated at some point anyway. Of course, given how Fire Control is currently level I it could be rewritten (at a later point) as a sphere I spell of course and this one could be the sphere II alternative.

Oh, and if you're going to read the entries on the site you might want to give this thread a look ;)

The bit on elven myths is not outdated as far as I know. It's not of much importance to Ximaxian magic however because, while based on elven myths, Ximaxian magic is quite different from it.

I think the main problem is that you try to do too much with it. While creating, shaping, moving, adding,... fire are all things a (battle) mage could do after one another it's not really advisable to do it all with a single spell, but rather with several spells tied to one another. You could create a wall of fire to protect yourself and then use the wall as source for a fireball for example.

Creating/destroying fire and moving/reshaping it are two different things btw. The first is Sphere I and the second sphere II. If you want to do both at the same time you could use Sphere III, but that's more complicated.

If I could give a suggestion (you don't have to follow it if you don't want of course): why not change to spell to a rewrite of Flame Control (should be sphere II, movement of Fire Ounia: shaping flames, gathering smaller ones into a bigger one, stuff like that)? The one on the site is outdated and it will probably require the least change from your current entry.

@Drasil: any reason why you use the '\' all the time? It's hard to read texts full of them.

On the spell itself: it seems to be a combination of most of the offensive sphere I & II spells. Is there anything that sets this spell apart from being a combo of Fireballs, Flame Control, Rise Flame...?

Maybe add a bit on territory (where you can find them) and organization (hierarchical structures and such)? Personality seems a bit odd to have a whole section for it (IMHO). Perhaps that could be merged with appearance?

That's pretty much the idea. Combining Equa and Xuea (who both don't work with spells) gives a pretty complicated (and thus very difficult and dangerous) result though which is why we just leave it be for now.
