1  Santharian World Development / Magic in the Lands of Caelereth / Re: Digging up the dead on: 24 May 2003, 05:05:00
Hmmm.

I think its logical to assume that before death the Xeuá-Cár'áll in sentients (elves, orcs, humans, etc) has a dominant 'wind' factor (thought, etc) whereas with animals the mix would be dominated by earth (in non magical animals anyway).  When their dead they all return to earth, so their shouldn't be any difference at all in anima/sentient corpses.

Quote:
Not many can resurrect a dead person, but the few who can have only little time to re-connect the natural Xeuá

How long?  An hour?  Minutes?  This character sorta depends on seeing the Cár'áll of the violently dead for a brief time after death.  An hour would be useful, but it's your call :)

Oh, arti does that mean the Gods don't exist?  Oh ho, only atheist joshing.  I take it (and I may be wrong) that the gods are a mixture of Puzzle and Being then, that's cool.

Oh, and thanks, Silfer

Hmmm.

Are the gods in this world puzzles or beings, (or some combination of both?)

By a Puzzle I mean Cleric A has to do X + Y over Z for a miracle to be be performed thus:

X (pray for thing/effect), plus Y (against/tofor) if Z (enough belief is 'given').  This is a 'cold' mythology.  Setient beings are nothing more than batteries for the gods (and perversely) the gods are batteries/storehouses/gift shops for clerics/devotees.

A 'hot mythology' is when the Gods are active beings with distinct personalities, with dislikes and likes.

In this then Cleric A asks his god to do something, and the god decides on a whim.   Asking too much might annoy the god, or it might not.  The god might be a bad mood anyway, or the clerics ancestors may have annoyed the gods, or the god might just dislike the cleric's hair style (these reasons would be unknown, for the most part, by the cleric) and refuse the simplest thing.  Or, as we're talking about personalities (like the greek model), the gods might do anything for the right individual regardless of the request, or indeed the holiness of the individual.

Which is it?  Or aren't we to know (i wouldn't mind)?

I've got a book at home with them all in, and some international ones too.

For example, in the English town of Chester (near the Welsh border) it's still legal to kill a Welshman, as long as it is with a longbow and after midnight.
