thank you all for the suggestions, i do think that i want to start out with the kuglimz.  in fact, let me re-read some articles i have on marriage customs of northern tribal peoples (yes, i realize that they are civilized offspring of the old mynians, but modern rituals are based upon older ones; and that means based on mynian practices, which are now diffused) and throw out some ideas - on the other forum though... right?

i've spent a couple days looking around.  i'm from the middle of nowhere, it's almost a week into march and we're still covered in a layer of ice.  not so nice, 'specially for my old, quick-to-temper, and blind dog...

i'm really finding the humans of northern sarvonia to be interesting.  granted, i need to do a bit more research, but i think these are my people;  or, at least the ones i'd live around if i were to live in this world (because i might not want to be a human, but someone who lives around them, records their doings, observes, and maybe intervenes now and again). 

so, now that i've found an area that i'm interested in, can anyone give me a really menial and easy task? 

you know, to get me started.

afterall, neophytes have got to start somewhere.

i'm the type who only falls when they get bored...  thus far, i'm not.    i'd really like to learn more about the Kuglimz... or for that matter the North.

should i be starting somewhere more "established"?

of course i read the newbie thread.   

and by THIS world, i'm talking about the one i'm sitting in right now, surrounded by books, animals, and the strange odds and ends that seem to clutter my life. 

i have a knack for writing.  i'm also very much into religion.  visual art is NOT a strong point for me.  i can draw diagrams, and stick people.  and i do neither very well. 

telling stories, and johnny-on-the-spot seem to be pretty easy for me - just ask my boss or any of my ex's.   

so back to the question... what would i like to do?  something.  je ne sais pas!  i have a feeling it's going to take me a little while to read through enough of the current content before i want to be definitive.  of course, if anyone needs someone to help with something, let me know, i'm pretty good with something.   

btw, you folks are amazing!  i heard about this site from wiki while reading about nisse, which led to dwarves, elves, brownies, etc. and on one of those pages was the external link to Santharia.  couldn't resist once i got here.

well... at the very least i found a site for people who know good movies.   

As an anthropologist I find RPG's and the creation of new worlds very interesting.  At the same time, I'm also a dreamer.  Religion, language, customs, cultural development, and history are like the back of my hand.  I can ramble off facts from dozens of different peoples in THIS world without flinching.  Folklore and so-called fairy tales seem to be something I can also talk about.  For me, and other folks in my field, historical "myths" are more than what they appear to be.  Indeed, they are a way of talking about fears, dreams, and aspirations.  Fantasy is more factual than most people believe. 

Think about it.

When you walk into a grocery store, the doors open for you.  You have a cell phone which enables you to talk to anyone, anywhere, at any time sans cables, distance, or a perception of how it works.  You can purchase things with the swipe of a piece of plastic, money is no longer important.  Speaking of money, it seems to be something that is beginning to become a folklore itself - hard currency is living out it's last days amongst westerners.  We live in a world today that 200 years ago was the subject of make-believe.  Fantasy, for me, is simply an extension of reality.  Fantasy becomes reality. 

In a world where we are manufacturing hybrid plants, bio-engineer better breeds of animals, diseases to wipe out all of humanity, and cures for diseases that have been with us since the beginning of our very existence...how hard is it to imagine a new plant, animal, or intelligent being?  Not hard at all.  I think this project is something of a cutting-edge sort of "dream in the making".

If you folks think I'm worthy, I think I would make a wonderful voice from our reality, and an interesting companion and weaver for dreams.
