1  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Bestiary / A Question of Size on: 30 November 2001, 18:47:00
Here's what I've got so far on the Gold Dragon's appearance. I was curious as to what size the dragon should be. I have taken a look at the sizes for the other dragons, but I have no idea how long a "ped" is. I've used the search engine, but all I'm finding is other entries using the ped. I know its gotta be around here somewhere (probably right under my nose). Any other general comments are welcomed as well!

Appearance The Gold Dragon is sleek, with lean muscles hovering under the skin’s surface. The Dragon’s skin appears to be burnished gold; a thick, tough hide that will deflect common iron. A thinner, webbed skin folds tightly over the hollow, bird-like bones of its wings. The wings are not easily broken despite appearance, and they will not break unless they crash into a cliff face with the full force of their bodies behind them. This would be an extremely unlikely occurrence as the Dragon has far superior senses in areas of hearing, smell, and eyesight. The Gold Dragon has exceptional hearing, evidenced by their large ears, which slope into a point and are, on average, a fourth of its head length (head is about 150 cm/5 ft in length). The elongated-looking snout of the Dragon is slender and allows for a full mouth with tiny, sharp teeth and large, flaring nostrils. The eyes are a piercing yellow surrounding the thin black irises. The crest of the Gold Dragon is formed by bony fans that travel the length of the Dragon’s spine, gradually getting smaller to the tip of its tail which can be anywhere from 12 ft/360 cm to 16 ft/480 cm, doubling the size of the dragon.  Two front feet are decorated with curved, golden claws on 3 toes designed for tearing their meat. The hind legs are well muscled and bulky and the feet can have anywhere from 3 to 5 toes, one on the back of each leg. The claws on these legs are thicker and curved more, designed for balance on a rocky, perhaps unstable, surface. The underside of the feet and belly are made of a soft, sponge like membrane of skin. It is designed for comfort, and balance upon its feet.

The most important thing about interaction and communication between others is hearing what isn't being said...

2  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Bestiary / Fairies? on: 26 November 2001, 14:39:00
Do we have anything related to/similar to fairies? Not like the older legends of the faerie people/small people. More like the small ones with wings. It might be an interesting idea though it may be too typical to fantasy. Then again, we have elves. Just a thought.

I'll start right on it :)  When I am finished, do I send it to you?

I meant to thank you Capher for signing my guestbook; its a little behind, but thanks. :D

Hi Ralhag, I'll be sure to put in lots of detail ;)  Thanks for the welcome. 8)  (I've just discovered the rest of these cute little smilies!)

Describing the bird sounds great :)  I have a question though: The writing that I will do, is it based on my personal ideas? I mean, when I write about the bird, can its personality reflect what I think it is? I know I'd follow the picture description-wise, but on its other characteristics?

My thanks for your welcome! A link to your site would prbly be a nice thing to do... I'll see what I can do ;)

Being stripped to the bone doesn't sound very much fun but I'm willing to work. I love writing anyway, I'll prbly become fat sitting at the computer desk typing away instead. :)

So, is there anything in particular that anyone would like me to work on?

Hi! I've looked through this fantastic site a while ago and I have returned looking again, this time with a new interest in helping out.

I've been wandering through the rpg board, joined a story, searched through the site, and so I hope I've got a pretty good grasp of Santharia... of course, there's a whole lot I haven't even glanced at yet (you have an amazing archive of information!).

Any way, I'd like to offer my services as a writer. Your drawings are exceptional, and as Artimidor pointed out, chosen rather particularly and I don't really feel I have the talent for it. So, I'm willing write anything you want me to...

Thats about it, I hope I'm not being too assuming. I also glanced the previous message, so I was careful not to put anything "silly" in my post. :)

The dragons are beautiful! Just an idea: What about some waving tendrils (sort of like medusa) to make the second one more... ferocious? Maybe a sort of fan around its head, like a lion's man but with frog-web in between. *trying to think of an example* I'm not sure how you would fit that in, but it was just an idea. I actually like the second one's shape (a sea dragon would be more sleekish-seal looking yes?) And the first one is fantastic (love the color, love the shape, love the detail...)

I like the first one a lot and could think of a history to go with it but I'm unsure of how/where they could be used. I will think on it for a bit, thanks for the suggestions. :)    Sorry for forcing you to think for me; I'm still getting used to the parameters of Santharia. The concept of Santharia gives you more freedom than real life but I'm working on fixing the new boundries created by Santharia's history and life in my mind. A different kind of thinking block ;)

My ideas are in short supply right now, so I'm basically volunteering myself for anything you want to throw me Artimidor... of course, if there's nothing you can think of at the moment, don't wrack your brain to find me something. I'm going to sit down someday soon and thump my head a bit and see if anything shows up *grins* ;)

Actually, I have an idea but its still a shade in the back of my mind, in the process of being formed. In the meantime, if you have something that needs doing (or anyone else for that matter) I'm ready for it. :)
