1  Santharian World Development / Cosmology, Myths and Religions / Re: Krean Religion: Brainstorming on: 17 September 2008, 13:00:01
Hey, just wanted to say that this Krean religion is great, very intriguing and unique. Just wondered....what set of morals does this religion have if the gods are seen as equal?

One wouldn't need to try and do good deeds, people would be no sense of guilt if they did wrong, no fear of wrath from the gods. But this might just mean that the Krean people create their own morality without the influence of religion. But then would this mean that it was a more selfish and egotistical society? Or would it become just free from corruption of the clergy? Sorry I'm just rambling on....too much coffee....  :)

Bah! undecided What a mistake to make, oh well.  *Packs her bags and leaves to look at the hobbit religion, Nybelmar and ice tribes...*

Probably just a myth or fairytale for the library.

But it would be nice if I could attach it to a existing entry on a species of butterfly, though the Grey Bloodmoth somehow seems more appropriate. But I was going to first ask Val O'Neil or Miraran what they thought instead of trying to get it attached to a random butterfly entry without their opinion.

Do you think sentient dragons, even those of today would talk to mere humans about their religion? And how do you know, that it is the same as the religion of the former dragons? How do we know of it? How did the people who form now the sect/order get to know of it?

Just had some thoughts if a dragon did have a religion...

-I don't think they would believe in a god that wasn't a dragon, maybe they would worship the first ever dragon or their anchestors, but not a distant intellectual being that has no true form.

-I imagine a dragon would be less questioning in its beliefs, than a normal elven/human/dwarven being. They have been part of the world for so long, wouldn't they just feel their religion as being part of their existance? It wouldn't be like humans, where we more question about what we believe in.

-A dragon would just think they know how the world was created. I don't think a dragon would even define their religion as a set of beliefs, more just knowing. I don't think they would worship or prayer in the more human sense. But just try to live a life which honours their god or ancestors.

-I just think that perhaps a dragon's religion would be harder to define and apply to Santharian definitions of religion. Just like how buddhism cannot be defined in the same ways more western religions can. A traditional tibetan buddhist might not even define their religion as a faith, because the Buddha was against believing in something just from faith alone. A santharian writer's definition of the religion of dragons would never be able to truly define it because the santharian culture is so different.

Sorry, these are just crazy ramblings and thoughts, I could be wrong.

Would it be alright if I asked to reserve Sheil's #21 - Dragon II? Just thought of a myth where a dragon is turned into a million butterflies. If anyone else needs it for a better purpose I don't mind.

Wow, I'm bowled over by number of people who responded to this topic, thank you for warm welcome! Nice to meet you all!

Bard Judith- Thank you for advice, I have now changed name, though actually my name is really Judith as well. However I'm perfectly happy to not use it. I'll call myself by my nickname, Jude, as many a time a certain popular song has been sung to me.

(Listens nervously to the strange, and slightly worrying, screams coming from the greenhouse.) I think I'll keep well away from any sockdraws, greenhouses and dungeons of doom for now. Though I never thought I'd see the day, when I would write all those items together in a sentence. I'll have a look around and see what small entry I could start with. Maybe a small myth from a religion, as Rookie suggested?

(The small student sneaks over and takes a peek into one of the rooms containing the vast archives of the compendium, her jaw drops.) Somehow I feel urge to comment on needing a more adequately sized boat....(Rolls up her sleeves and gets to work.)

I would very much like to help, though as a lowly Art History/Religious studies student at Aberdeen university, I don't really have that much useful skills to give you except my own sweat, blood and tears in hard graft. I knew I should have chosen a more useful major. I will end my days as a homeless person holding a sign, that will read "Will write about art for food!". I can write, though am no Wordsworth and cannot draw well. I love researching things, I can spend days just doing research.

All I can say is that I am a geeky and slightly insomniac student who has been in love with the fantasy genre since childhood. Cut me and I bleed hobbit's blood....
