1  Organization and General Discussions / Non-Santharian Stuff: Life, the Universe & Everything / Did a random internet search today ... on: 19 February 2015, 08:08:10
Hi all,

Decided to do a random internet search this morning on Tak'Dinal. Of course, Santharia came up, but the following also came up ...

This site

Now, I know that imitation is supposedly the sincerest form of flattery, or something like that, but not sure about that.

Now to return to being absent again. :)

I gave you an aura for the effort of going through the 54 different menu pages. I guess you were able to 'find' the necessary words and replace.

Things are getting a bit confusing with the chapters here, Coren... 1A, 12B etc. Also, 1A isn't mentioned in the Overview up there. So how and where should this be added?

I revised the opening in line with comments I received on an online writers' forum. Broadly speaking, the reviewers praised the prose, but asked for action and character development to be delivered upfront. I realised I needed to dive into the heart of the story sooner, so I wrote a new scene. This is to go in-between the "Prologue" and the ex-"Chapter 1".

That would seem to say where this chapter goes, Artimidor.

Sorry I'm late, but welcome to Santharia, Amabella.

This entry is a great read. There are so many things I love in it. But the primary thing that helps it come alive for me personally is the following part of it:

The deepest aspect in the culture of the Heath of Jernais, the one that has never changed throughout the millennia nor wavering throughout its vast expanse, is that the human settlement is an extension of a natural formation of the heath.

Picture a typical moment in the Heath of Jernais. Say, Firstflame, in the middle of Changing Winds.

A woodcutter in Jernais sets off to his tree farm, leaving one of the many city houses adorned in a bright colour paint. The brilliant hues of these homes echo the petals of the heathland, especially the stretching dalferia which are greeting the day. The woodcutter just gave thanks to Baveras for the river nourishing his farm.

At the same time, a wheat farmer in the village is about to check his field. It was seeded earlier that month, and lies beside one of the many uniform houses rooted in the bank of the Vandrina. The rectangular clay home is mud and wean grass, inheriting its solid and earthy colour strictly from the local grounds. The farmer says a quick prayer to Grothar for fine weather that day.

Meanwhile, a cleric of Nehtor is grinding yahrle leaves with a mortar and pestle. The edges of the cleric’s home and the limbs of the surrounding trees dance so closely that one does not seem to mind the other’s company.

In the same instant, a silk dyer says a blessing to Jeyriall after taking in the crisp scent of fáberige released by a recent burst of spring rain. The dyer is heading south towards the moor, brushing by the remains of crenellation from ancient walls built when Jernais was once a military base. The crenellation is angular at the tips, as an abstract reflection of the peaks which still march along the horizon of the rising sun.

The moment is concluded as a new traveler enters the Heath of Jernais for the first time, interpreting the aspect he sees, whilst deciding the side that he wants to see.

Congratulations and wonderful work, I look forward to reading more of your entries. +1 Aura from me.

I finally hooked up my brain and got through that first challenge. Then I died. LOL

Thanks for the game, Seeker.

Thank you for that Artimidor.

EDIT: Wow, how easy is it once you know what to do. :)
7  Santharian World Development / Santharian Artists Workshop and Resources / Technical Help needed - making background transparent on: 11 July 2013, 14:54:15
Hi all,

Firstly, this isn't to do with Santharia, however it is to do with using graphics programs, so I hope I can be forgiven for posting this on this particular board at the Santharian development forum.

I need some technical assistance with an image on my church's website. I am currently in charge of updating and migrating the website across from Joomla to Wordpress. We're giving it a new 'look' as well, including different layout and background colours. The picture currently has a white background. I want to make the background transparent, as the part of the website it is sitting on is red, and the white background looks really awful on the red. The picture is a jpg file.

I currently have access to Adobe products under a 30 day trial. I also have acces to Inkscape and GIMP, however I'm finding the Adobe products a lot more user friendly.

Would someone be able to advise me on what I should be using, and how I should go about doing this, please?

Thank you and kind regards,

I can't even get through the first challenge. LOL

lol, probably best not to deal with them on either count then :)

I was looking for something or other and stumbled across a site called "The Red Dragon Inn - resources for fantasy and D&D fans", and noticed they have a page for links to other RP sites. Thought I'd share the link in case it is of interest to us here. I am not involved with them in any way, but they had some interestling looking items there, especially under "Audalis" (which seems to be a world they've created) and "Vault" which links to a series of support mechanisms for RPGs (everything from Dice Rollers to name generators, to town generators). Anyway, the web address for their site is http://www.rdinn.com/ and from there, follow the tabs across the top of the page, directly under their banner.

I'm sorry, I've been pretty well out of action since March 4. My back's been very sore and virtually any movement (including breathing/typing) caused pain to go through my body. I've been miserable as a result. I haven't forgotten my comments here though, and still aim to get it by the end of next month.

I'm also thinking about changing these guys somewhat, into little flying goats, but still with the odious habits, tri coloured skin and so forth.

An idea that's been perculating in my brain. I'm using this to see if I still have what it takes. If it isn't finished by me in six weeks, I probably don't.

I still have to go through the compendium for details to use in the entry. I can't believe just how much I've forgotten the last year. :)

Animal > Domestic > Goats and Sheep > Tricol Goat

The Tricol Goat, believed to the result of a Ximaxian Mage's spell gone wrong, is a small animal found exclusively in the surrounds of Ximax City located on the Xaramon Peninsula in the Kingdom of Santharia. Noted for it short stature, three coloured coat, and its odious personal habits, the Tricol goat is used by the members of the Boyzinna Fellowship as a mascot. In recent times, this friendly creature has been prized by artists for its horns which can be used in paints as pigments, especially if the artists are able to handle the stench coming from these animals.

Three combos, three colours each
Red/Blue/Purple - young, pre reproduction age
Blue/Yellow/Green - mature, during reproduction age
Yellow/Red/Orange - elderly, post reproduction age

Much smaller/lighter than other goats

Special Abilities
As with other goats, the Tricol Goat is willing to eat any kind of plant. However, while the diet of other goats is restricted to plants, the Tricol Goat has a wider dietary range including

Area surrounding Ximax City

Herd animals, docile, friendly, though their stench/habits drive others away.

Any plant material they can reach. Go into specifics by looking at herbarium for the area chosen. Something special that they eat as well - look at minerals

Mating typically takes place in autumn (month) with live births in spring (month).

Polygamous relationships, raising young is social affair for whole herd

According to the Volkek Oshran Mage, Phlegah Spirin, the Tricol Goat was created by a magic spell gone awry. Exactly what the spell was or who was casting the spell is unknown as the orc mage won't tell this author. What is known is that the treatise of the early <appropriate century>, titled Of Animals and Their Environs by <First> <Last> makes no mention of them living in Ximax peninsula.

The Tanners' Guild of Ximax City uses the skin of these animals in their process of forming leather from the hides of dead animals, particularly in the leather neck ties that are worn by the members of the Boyzinna Fellowship.

Artists who do not have delicate senses or who may well be suffering from a lack of taste/smell have been known to use the horns of these animals

Anything Else (Optional)
Can you think of any details to make this even better?

Could http://bkiani.deviantart.com/art/13-8-91-335873157 fit in the entry on the druids?
