1  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Bestiary / ok, thanks for all the advice on: 06 August 2002, 09:26:00
There, I think I fixed everything. Except abouth the researchers, what do you mean? Like a separate column, as "appearance" or something? See, I wrote this short story about M. Mansurin, I almost finished it, and I thought maybe to submit it and them make a link, if it's accepted.

2  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Bestiary / Here they go. I wrote it anyway... on: 06 August 2002, 07:26:00
Pegasus

Pegasi are the creatures of great mystery even today; legendary winged horses that have been considered divine, and magical, and a blessing. Well, no wonder, - those beasts are extremely rare. They are often mismatched with winged Unicorns, but at close distance it’s quite noticeable – pegasi do not have horns and their flight is not silent. Not long ago it has been discovered that they live high up in the mountains where no other creature can survive. All the information we have now was kindly provided by Scholar Mansuryn of Marcogg ((link) - I also wrote the story about her), who has vowed her life to finding and studying pegasi when she saw one as a little girl. Her story of finding the creatures and living among them for several years is no less interesting than the creatures themselves.

Appearance - Pegasi are the size of normal horses, maybe even a bit bigger. They are incredibly beautiful creatures. Anyone who ever had the luck to see one will tell you that it really is divine. Most of them are white, with massive feathered wings, about 5 peds in span (from wing-tip to wing-tip), and sky-blue eyes. However, there are some black individuals, and even rarer are grey and chestnut ones; almost always males. Color seems to be a sex-linked trait in pegasi, where white allele is dominant and the rest are recessive. They have unusually large powerful muscles on their backs, for supporting their flight. Wings grow a bit higher than middle back, from the scapula bones. pegasi have long tails and manes, and long hair also grows from below their knees, covering the hooves slightly. No one had the chance yet to examine their anatomy thoroughly because it has proved impossible, at least at present, to catch one. Pegasi try to keep away from the eye and live in extreme altitudes. They must also have some kind of lung adaptation to breathe normally up there.

Special Abilities - Definitely, these beasts are granted with many special abilities, and many of these many, surely, we do not know of. However, we do know that they possess high intellect and behave as a “people” inside their circles. They also have a telekinetic ability to communicate with one, somehow, through thoughts, as Maia Mansurin said in her writings.

Territory - Places of pegasi settlements are very vague, because the creatures are usually spotted at random. But there have always been more sightings by the mountains. One exact location is in western Mithral Mountains. Some have also been seen in Tandala Highlands and Vindel Mountains.

Habitat/Behavior - Pegasi live in mountain caves, usually near hot springs, where there are small islands of grass and fruit trees. They cover their cave floors with dry leaves for sleep. Their age span is unclear, but it is known that the oldest is commonly in charge of the settlement. Sometimes they gather on the mountain glades and lead a silent discussion. They are afraid of the full moon, it drives them berserk and they are unable to fly. During full moon nights they are always hiding in caves. Pegasi communicate with other settlements even in distant mountains. They can fly for days without stopping. When they need to rest their wings, they soar. Their psychology is very complicated; it seems they know what’s going on in the world, but still keep to themselves. There have been occasions where some people were saved by pegasi. It happens through the pledge of friendship. If a pegasus pledges friendship, wherever his friend is in danger and calls to him in his mind, he will come to help. But not many, at least known individuals have been so close to pegasi, save some elves and Scholar Mansurin.

Diet - Pegasi are vegetarian. They eat grass, fruit, vegetables…etc, but like their things fresh. They will never eat hay.

Mating - Pegasi mate for life. They feel something very like love towards each other, and will always recognize their mate when they see him/her for the first time. A female pegasus can have several children in her lifetime, but she does not mate again until her child reaches it's full size and strength and is able to have a family of his/her own. How the child is conceived is not known. A pair usually flies away somewhere, and no one follows. Assuming they are very like horses physically, they must mate in the same way.

Usages - Apparently, many kings would want to use pegasi for war, but such possibility hasn’t been an option.

Myth/Lore - Some say that pegasus came from two flying Unicorns who lost their horns. And they were so ashamed before others, that they hid themselves high in the mountains, where none would see them, and lived there. They had a child and it was without a horn too. So came pegasi. But apparently not; they have been dreamt by Ava separately for some higher purpose. Scholar Mansurin, for example, states that they are made to watch over us. She felt it from the moment she was among them.

Hey, guys? Do you have a Pegasus yet? Well, if not, (I'm pretty sure that no, bc I looked for it) I'll write about it! I'm almost halfway through, I'll publish it in this topic maybe tomorrow. ;)

4  Santharian World Development / Places and Map Design / Ah, never mind! on: 03 August 2002, 06:12:00
Well, I did more research on it, and it seems no kingdoms are planned. Well, ok, then, never mind this entry above. Sorry!

5  Santharian World Development / Places and Map Design / AERUILLIN on: 03 August 2002, 06:08:00
I was recently trying to get an icy chunk of land to work on. But of stupidity I did it in the Library! Anyway, I should have come here, I guess.
I noticed that the land of Auruillin, on the south pole, is not described/mentioned/told about anywhwere. And it IS big and seemingly empty. (though people advised me to do more work on herbarium and other things before trying to beg out a piece of land) But I'm just researching.
So can I take the job on it, the map, the people, all, or is someone alredy working on it..., or is it really described somewhere that I didn't find about... Please tell me!
Thank you.

6  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Library / thanks again! on: 02 August 2002, 18:29:00
I'll fix all except "gazed" on bliss... kinda doesn't fit, don't you think. Sort of... bliss and gaze don't go together. But I'll change it anyway, to something milder than gaze, but... ah, I'll see.
Thanks again! ;)

I've only just aplied for joining your team. I found out about your site 2 days ago, and yesterday I wrote this poem. As it is my first work dedicated to this project it is about Ava, of course. Later on I plan a lot of menstrel work. Gonna make songs out of legends! ;)

The Eternal Dance

When the Origin was born

When the End of Ends began;

Time was making it’s first spin

Avá, Mother, dreameth then…

Cloaked in eternal sleep;

An enchanted mystery

Cleared in her blissful eyes

Thus the Living came to be.

~*~

And she saw them in her thoughts;

Separate now from the Whole

But with minds of their own;

Spirits of eternal soul.

Thus they came, the elven race,

First to speak and first to sing;

First to laugh and first to love;

To love Avá the Supreme.

Many other things she saw:

Men, dwarves, forests, stars and skies…

And she saw all were unique,

And she wondered, who am I?

Am I being just as them,

Why cannot I see myself?

Have of myself I dreameth

As I dreameth of an elf?

And she saw the answer then

And she was amazed and thrilled;

Scared of the truth she saw

But proud of what she built.

Then she looked upon herself

And perfection there she saw;

Void and eternity

Thus she marveléd in awe.

She saw beauty; She saw bliss,

But in darkness she saw sin -

Then an image came to her

That have always there been…

Then she knew He was inside

Ever with her, ever there.

He, the Cóor, Lord of the Dark,

He the bringer of despair.

And She knew that She was Him

And He knew that He was Her;

They knew they will always be;

And knew that they always were.

But Blissful She has remained,

And terrible He has stayed.

And He offered her a hand

And in his her hand she laid.

And they danced above the stars

In the cosmos; in the void.

In the darkness; in the light.

She created; He destroyed.

So it was, so it will be

So they danced, and dance today.

All is ever intertwined

In their eternal play.

But She was who first awoke,

She who gave the Good a chance

And as long as Goodness wins

She leads The Eternal Dance.

All right, I think I began to understand the whole cosmological thing, although I'm still not sure. Just tell me if there's something else you think I should fix...

The Eternal Dance

When the Origin was born
When the End of Ends began;
Time was making it’s first spin
Avá, Mother, dreameth then…

Cloaked in eternal sleep;
An enchanted mystery
Cleared in her blissful eyes
Thus the Living came to be.

~*~

And she saw them in her thoughts;
Separate now from the Whole
But with minds of their own;
Spirits of eternal soul.

Thus they came, the elven race,
First to speak and first to sing;
First to laugh and first to love;
To love Avá the Supreme.

Many other things she saw:
Men, dwarves, forests, stars and skies…
And she saw all were unique,
And she wondered, who am I?

Am I being just as them,
Why cannot I see myself?
Have of myself I dreameth
As I dreameth of an elf?

And she knew the answer then;
And she was thrilled and amazed;
Scared of the truth she saw
But proud of the dreams she raised.

Then she looked upon herself
And perfection there she saw;
Void and eternity;
Thus she marveléd in awe.

But with beauty and with bliss,
She sensed darkness, evil, sin…
Then an image came to her
That has always there been -

Then she knew He was inside
Ever with her, ever there.
He, the Cóor, Lord of the Dark,
He, the bringer of despair.

And She knew that She was Him
And He knew that He was Her;
They knew they would always be;
And knew that they always were.

But Blissful She has remained,
And terrible He has stayed.
And if ever she awakes
All that she had dreamed will fade.

In the cosmos; in the void
Their minds ever are in dance
In the darkness; in the light
Searching for the winning stance.

So it was; so it will be
So they danced, and dance today.
All is ever intertwined
In this never-ending play.

9  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Library / Ah! on: 02 August 2002, 10:40:00
Oh, thanks. Well, I see it's complicated! But at least now I understand how it works, but that should be easily fixed, the idea of them separate... So she just never woke, right? And he is there bothering her. But aminly I worried that you won't accept the whole "dance" idea of it. Since they are one being they can't dance... ah, well. Just wanted to show the dance of evil and god, the yin and yang, the balance, whatever.
So anyway, I'll try to fix it soon, mayeb today, and post it here for further critiques! Thanks again! ;)

10  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Library / ? on: 02 August 2002, 06:52:00
Um.. okay. So I want further qritiques? Or should I fix it? Plz, tell me what's wrong with cosmology in it. And also, I've worked the meters but it all depends on the way you accent words. Eeejhhh it's hard to explain, these accent thingies, you don't have them in English, all words are kinda straight-forward, you know how it's gonna sound already.... Well, I'lltry to fix. But hey! You are still being too critical!

Yes, yes! So yes? The story is free? *hopeful puppy glance* (I saw cosmology is not finished yet, so you are working on it?)
So yes. I would definitely take the job if it's not taken. Anyone knows if it is? Just don't want to write it all without knowing there's a point. (lazy! lazy!) Just a waste of time. But I promise! I've worked it out in my head. ???

13  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Library / Baveras the Goddess of the Sea on: 01 August 2002, 16:38:00
I see there isn't anything written of the Goddess of the Sea, Baveras. I have a good story in mind. And picture. Do you want me to write of her?

14  Santharian World Development / The Santharian Library / I'm now ok! on: 05 August 2002, 11:59:00
I fixed all the Ezboard stuff! Thanks for your advice, again!

Village Woman’s Lulla-bye (feel free to change the title)

Sleep, my Dear, and close your eyes
Lulla-lulla-lay
Bright stars whisper in the skies
Hear you what they say?

Centaurs playing hide-and-seek
By the moonlit pond.
In the desert jackals shriek -
Stars see far beyond.

In the Highlands Gryphons roam
Seeking out their prey.
Sleep, Dear, you are safe at home
Lulla-lulla-lay.

Fearsome dragon in a cave
Laying in the gold –
Many thieves and fighters brave
Are yet to behold.

Fair elf-maidens on a glade
Playing magic lyres.
Hero with a shining blade
Only fear fears.

Army marching off to war,
Stubborn eyes aglow,
To defend their native shore
From an evil foe.

And you will grow up someday,
Will be brave at heart;
On a steed will ride away
To fulfill your part.

I shall wave you then goodbye,
And to Gods will pray.
Sleep my dear, now sleep, don’t cry
Lulla-lulla-lay.

P.S. Do I need a last name? If I do, then it will be Scorpicore; Mutares Scorpicore
