Hm. Don't hate me, but I have this weird Idea.
You know how when Alice ate one half of the mushroom, she got big? And ate the other half, and she got little?
What about something like that? Physical manipulation; donw to molecules....
That may be too scientific.
But you know what I mean? I don't know if that fits anywhere. I think it'd be cool if some funny little guy in brightly colored clothes was up against a massive barbarian and POOF! Thanks to the Corporalus ( sorry! Thinking of Body Magic) Mage, The barbarian is shrunk to the size of a puppy! He couldn't beat up a halfling if his life depended on it!

Well I am thinking of something that would allow the caster to control plant live.  He could call vines down from the trees to bind his opponent.

Another one could be the manupulation of earth.  The mage could form the earth into a wall seperating him and his opponent or form a small hut to keep him warm in the night when he is travelling.

These could be expanded but are just examples of what could be done.

Remedy (or something) magic? Magic that deals with cleaning wounds, washing out poison, etc. with water... thus stopping infection and allowing the wound to heal well enough on its own.... basically... spells that deal with water's sustaining and cleaning properties.... :D

Stupid question, tarq but how is it currently planned out with more classes than those twelve(looking at the requests)?

I could very well imagine a system like a snow flake to display all the spell classes in a system.

E.g.(!) Necromancy is a part of the earth element. Demonology is a subtree of Necromancy, Construction another tree of Earth. It could get ever more complex when it would be needed and still possess a certain scheme...

In my opinion twelve general classes are hard enough to balance and the more additional classes you want to put into a balanced scheme(where every element has teh equal number of schools) the more additional classes you also have to invent which might get a bit synthetic.

Well, don't know but above example would have the opportunity to do so while keeping the twelve main classes based on four elements...

Just some thoughts on my side, show your system dammit, maybe you already did all the thinking stuff my brain now fools around! ;)

An interesting idea, but this expands beyond simply Elemental magic.

I'm doing my best to keep this all balanced, but my main problem at the moment is slowly running out of ideas.

Well, I generally meant that you have various "courses" so to speak. You've four schools, the elements, with three major classes which might split into various subjects.

So, yeah I also think that the four schools and the twelve classes should be balanced but beyond that we should not bother to fit any more classes to a balanced system but add them to an existing class so we don't go mad(or you up the roof).

But as I'm not sure how you've planned it out so far I cannot tell if it is workable right now.

Err.... i feel a little bit stupid, but: Spells such as my "light" on the dsite, or spells when the mage just makes a flame of nothing, what spell class do they go under? Or do we lack such a class?

Mayhaps checmical magic...creates viruses, acids, and other chemical stuff.  They could be the potionmakers...just a thought.

Gnomes do that, without magical means. They're just very good at alchemy though I doubt thy can create anything like this without the need of many resources.
