To compare to the last spell...

Lightning (Fire IV)

Spell Effect: Though lightning is commonly associated with wind, the fire magi are able to create a similar effect through this spell, which is believed to replicate the true process of how lightning is created in nature. That is, the energies in the air before a lightning storm cause an imbalance in the air’s cár’áll. The energies cause fluxes in the cár’áll most chaotic sector: the fire oún. The expanding of the Fire cár’áll causes an imbalance in the cár’áll, and to set the balance right, the cár’áll, now lighted and heated, plunges towards the earth to equate it’s cár’áll with the cár’áll found there, regaining balance.

Thus, the spell, as one might imagine, deals with taking the fire oún in a wind and forcing it to expand and stay expanded until the wind cár’áll itself is driven to someplace to equate the cár’áll. This spell tends to be more dangerous than the wind spell, because the element itself is more chaotic and less able to be controlled, even by some of the higher mages. Though level four students should be able to cast this spell, the spell isn’t taught until level 6, or else sometime after a student graduates.

Casting Procedure: A lot of concentration is required to control this spell and maintain it. Energy must be built up to keep the fire oún expanded to cause the imbalance. When the caster is ready, they may make this imbalance. It is customary to lightly chant the formula to help with concentration. When the Xeuá is stretched to a certain point, the entire cár’áll will become unstable and look for another cár’áll, usually of either water or earth, to equate itself. When the cár’áll reaches this point, it will strike out at the nearest cár’áll.

It is important that the Fire mage be quick to put himself out of harm’s way. There have been many cases where a student attempted this spell without aid and caused great injury to themselves because the lightning struck out at them.

Formula: Si Fér Efer (Sién Efér  Eferán, or Quick Burning Fire)

Target: The Target of the spell is the wind that surrounds the caster, which he takes and expands the fire oún in. It is, however, important that the caster also know where he wishes the lightning to go BEFORE he casts the spell.

Reagents: Sulfer can be used to increase the burning quality opf the lightning, but lfew other reagents are needed.

Magic School: Fire

Spell Class: 1, Undefined

Range: The spell can theoretically, if contained within a space without any wind or fire cár’áll, go on forever until the cár’Tll balances naturally again, but usually the lightning will head directly towards someone or something to help regain it’s balance. The range is usually defned as how far the lightning can go until it become uncontrollable.

Level 4: 1 to 2 peds
Level 5-6: 3 to 4 peds
Level 7-8: 5 to 10 peds
Level 9-10: 15 to 20 peds
Level 11-12: Undefined.

Casting time:
Level 3-4: 45-60 seconds, though a lot of forethought it required, and preprations must be done
Levels 5-6: 30-45 seconds, though a lot of forethought it required , and perations must be done
Levels 7-8:  25-30 seconds, Though forethought is required, and some preparations is done
Levels 9-10: 15-25 seconds; though forethought is required, and preparations may be done.
Levels 11-12: 5-15 seconds (or less); some forethought is needed, preprations are often unneeded.

Duration: N/A

Counter Measures/Enhancing Measures: Many shields can off-set or completely block the effects of the spell, especially earth and water, to which the lightning is naturally attracted and will balance with. The lightning can also be putt-off by Fire and Wind shields. The cár’áll of the lightning, being naturally unbalanced by these two elements, will about the shields in favor of something with more earth and water oún.

There are few enhancing measures. The reagent of sulfur or even dust particles thrown into the air before casting the spell can cause more friction by the wind, making the lightning hotter. Some believe that anything representing quickness, such as a rabbit’s foot, may help increase the quickness of the mage and thus allow him to control the quick property of the lightning.

"There is much misjudgment in the world. Now, I knew you for a unicorn when I first saw you, and I know that I am your friend. Yet you take me for a clown, or a clod, or a betrayer, and so I must be if you see me so. The magic on you is only magic and will vanish as soon as you are free, but the enchantment of error that you put on me I must wear forever in your eyes. We are not always what we seem..." -Schmendrick the Magician, The Last Unicorn

Both work fine - I have been saying i before, that same type of spells could be cast in more than one way and school. Excellent example.

Well, this seems to work quite well, I may have my new char use this lightning instead of the hot-light spell.  Any problems with that?
