As far as I know her e-mail address at her team page should still be valid. At least I hope so. Her name regularly pops up on MSN though in case you have MSN. I've made several attempts to reactivate her in the past, but not to much avail.  undecided

Is there any chance that you can create a map centered on the Wood Forest in the North? The woods south of the Themed'lon and surrounding lands. I'd like to study that area for a future entry on those woods. The current maps together do not show a complete picture of that region. Thanks!

Well, I don't really have the time resources to work on map projects at the moment, Azhira. Besides, once I do get to do a map, the region should ideally be prepared beforehand, with woods, rivers, mountains, towns and villages and possible extras already put on a sketch (see the Monster Map I refer to every now and then) - just the way the developers in that region like it to have their ideas integrated. Then I could just use that as the source material and base the map on that. Otherwise I would just need to guess what to draw on the map.

What I'd do, Az, is go ahead and make a rough sketch as a developer's aid.  Post it in the appropriate area and make sure that all the other Northerners have a chance to put their two sans' worth in.  Extrapolate from the large features (there's a mountain, there's a bay - doubtless a stream runs down from one to t'other!  And so on...) to create forests, barrens, and more.   I for one find this one of my favourite dev activities, so feel free to ask...

This link is very helpful for topographical ideas which make areas much richer! http://www.santharia.com/dev/index.php/topic,3780.0.html  Near the end there's a large list of 'evocative topographical features' which speak for themselves.  Enjoy...

No problem, Arti.  thumbup

This is good, Judy! I'll try this. Talia made a basic map of the area I needed in my bell-ring thread and I'll use that and give it some detail. Thanks for the tip!  :D

I had a question, Arti...

Is it easier for you when the color is removed from the entries when you go to update them? I was just thinking of some ways to make the entries easier to edit and integrate...or maybe I'm way off... huh

I dont think it matter that much, as he doesnt actually copy the internal code of your entries anyway. It has to be converted to html code for the site, and i think that's done manually..

Yeah, I just take the text itself, the colour codes don't really matter much. So that's ok, no need to worry! :)

Arti, can your nomenclature machine spit out half-orcen names for the Kaaer? What do you need to do that? I would like heavy emphasis on the first few syllables, with perhaps a single letter to start:

Example: T'char, K'lag, U'trom, H'jal etc...

What my tribe needs is some defined nomenclature as I have been kind of random with names up until now and alot of their names are inconsistent...for example, I absolutely hate the name Temejin Tartar... :P

P.S. - Expect some heavy revision on all of my Kaaer related entries if I can get this done... cool

The program needs fodder first.  You'd have to provide a list of syllables, with the rules, that can be input into the machine - but inputting involves a lot of plain dog-work and Art has a lot on his plate already.

Generally we prefer specialists to take responsibility for their languages, and you seem to know what you want already.  In which case I'd suggest that you'd get better results - and be able to tweak them yourself - if you downloaded the name generator and put the info in and played around with the generator options.  It's not complicated, really!

Set 'first syllables' as    T'     Gh'    A'   Gr'    and so on, so that the machine has the apostrophes associated and will generate the names with them in the right place.
Then set 'second syllables' as   char    lag    gun   jal    trom    etc.  (I *think* case is sensitive)....    Then choose the 'two-syllable' option only (though I would run a few one and three for variety) and hit Generate.

You'll get the odd name like    T'trom  or  Gr'grag from that, but you can simply not accept them from the raw name list that the program will then spit out.   Move over all the names you want saved, and you'll have your name list!

You can select for 'male' and 'female' syllables or simply choose them by hand later depending on the feel of the finished name - or perhaps there really isn't a difference as far as this tribe is concerned!   There seems to be a strong euro-centric bias for 'a', 'ae', 'l', and so on in feminine names for most of the human tribes (yep, me too!) but the orcs will doubtless have very different criteria...

Yeah, Judy summarized it pretty well. If I have syllables (see Garret's Kyranian entry where she has done it) - I can let the program do the work. Important is especially to make sure that the male and female names can be distinguished. So usually the ending syllables have to differ remarkably, though maybe at an (half-)orcish tribe it could be the other way round and the beginning syllable defines the gender (e.g. eginnings with vocals = female, consonants = male, ending valid for both). So you can play around with quite a bunch of funny ideas. Important is that I get a list of syllables or word parts :)

Thanks Judy and Arti...I don't mean to create more work for you Arti. I did not realize that the naming machine could be used by anyone. I thought it was a special Artimidor Magic Tool only. lol Where can I download it and I can get to creating my own names?

I can make a new install version, which you can then download and use.  Some things have been improved considerably since the first versions. Give me a few hours and you can download it.

P.S. An install version is only to be used on fresh installs though - people who want to update existing versions need to send me their databases so that I can take the stuff that was made with it and integrate it.
