Don't know which version you have, Xera, but at my Office 2003 you find under EXTRAS --> LANGUAGE options where you can change the default language. The first option there is called something like DEFINE LANGUAGE, there you can e.g. tell Word that it shouldn't try to detect the language automatically.

Oh yeah that always happens to me, it gets on my nerves, I use both version 2006 and vista. Whenever I type certain Santharian words into word it changes the language spell checker to German. I have tried changing it back to English a million times but it just changes straight back after.

Another thing that I find quite strange is that even the Santharian spell checker does not except Santharian words so that is really annoying. Because if you have a lot of Santharian words in your post then when it goes through the spell checker it can take ages just to get through the Santharian words let alone the English words.

lol Well, the "Santharian spellchecker" is just an English one and as far as Santharia is concerned it is pretty stupid... ;) Unfortunately we also cannot change that spellchecker to encourage British spelling - like "colour", "honour" - neither (which we use at the entries on the site), because it is a shared spellchecker on the server and also is used at other sites. At least the spellchecker doesn't see errors in the different spellings of "color" and "colour" and words like that. Better than nothing I'd say ;)

P.S. You can at least "teach" Word to build a Santharian dictionary, so that it doesn't point out words as mistakes next time.

Oh, are we supposed to lean towards British forms in spelling? Because people in this world have been getting onto me for years for using British  spelling when I am an American and living in America... computer

It confuses me that other counties spell English words differently. After all they are English and since it is named after us and are original native language I think the way we spell should be the correct way in any country. I don't mind it is just something I find very confusing.

Well, American English is derived from British English and further simplified from there. Maybe the Americans are just too lazy to write these additional "u"s... lol Exceptions like Morc confirm the rule... ;) But of course British English is the more ancient form, and this is also why we prefer it here on the site. When I upload stuff, I "correct" American spelling to British one usually. But of course this is difficult to avoid entirely, so you'll find mixed spellings throughout the site.

The general attitude is that they just don't want to seem British (or at least in my experience). But since I can claim to be "British-American", I don't mind.  Big Grin
