Here is another thing I am trying to do.  So far it is only rough, may be changing a few things still.  But this is the idea I am going for at least.

Comments more then welcomed.

Cool!  Has a sort of Seurat-style composition, in the solid planes of colour and the cropping.  Really good pose and sense of foreshortening in the body and arm.  Not a lot of interest on the right side!  Child needs to be reaching for 'something' such as a flower in the grass - because the arm leads our eye right to... at the moment, nothingness.

Hat is a bit too modern in shape.  Tip it back and turn it into more of a 'bonnet' - you can also then introduce a few curls on the forehead to add more interest to the profile.  Ear is a little small - it seems to end rather too quickly at the edge of the hat and might benefit from being shown in full once the bonnet is tipped back, for example.

Keep going with this - I'd like to see what you come up with!  Oh, and what program /programs are you using?

Seurat-style?  I googled that and came up with a style of painting that consists of many dots that when looked at an distance make a picture.  Wasn't really going for this effect.

I was planning on putting a small doll or toy on the right side to show what she was grabbing for, but just hadn't gotten this far yet.

Yeah, I agree with the hat.  Going to go and look to see if I can find any reference picture on the net for better style hats.

As for programs.  I am am using Adobe Photoshop CS2 and the Intous3 graphic tablet.

Edit:
Forgot about the ear.  I know the ear is  a little off.  As I was adding a little shading to the picture, I noticed this even more.  So I think I am going to Chapters today and picking up a book on how to draw people, mainly faces.

My booboo, mixing up my French painters again.  Try Édouard Manet, particularly in something like 'The Railway'.   A sort of flat, bright, fresh look, with a cut-off edge like a photograph....

I LOVE Intuos.   My sister bought me mine for the best present ever!  (smooches Alysse)

Ah, thats better.  Was really wondering when I say the other style being dots, had to take another look at my picture.

I wish my Intous3 was a gift.  I had to splurge on my own.
