Working on another project while I try to put final touches on other pieces.  I am a little stuck with this one.

I know it's still just a sketch and basic at that, but the floor looks too much like a wall.  Perhaps when shadows and such are added, that'll make a difference, but i was wondering if anyone had any idea as to what I could do to make the floor more floor like?

I also noticed that my stones on the right side of the floor tended to get smaller, no wonder why it seemed to take longer to do that half of the floor.  *sighs*

Hey Gar, good to see you!

This one is pretty easily fixed.  Just make your stones trapezoid (big side toward the bottom of the page) instead of square, and have them get bigger as they get further down the page.  Sort of like this:

    __                     _____
   |__|                  /_____\
    __                    ______
   |__|       vs.      /_______\
    __                 _________
   |__|              /__________\

Excuse the crude ascii 'art' lol but hopefully it illustrates what I mean  :)  A web search on 'perspective' or 'perspective grid' or something similar should give you a better illustration.

I'm not an artist by any stretch of the imagination, so do with my suggestion what you will.

Would it make a difference if the tile floor extended deeper into the picture?  I mean, if the floor starts further back in relation to the front of the fireplace?  I wonder if this would give more of an illusion of depth to the fireplace.  With the fireplace extending out of the wall, and over the tiles of the floor, I hope this would convey the sense that the fireplace is grounded on something, that being the tile floor.

I'll try my hand at rudimentary ascii drawing myself:

        I                            I
        I    (Fireplace)         I
  ooo I------- ---------------I ooo

I never claimed to be any good!  rolleyes

@Grunok:  Thanks, that helped a lot.  Sadly, now I get to go through the task of redrawing the stones...bummer.

@Kelancey: Indeed, that would make sense and has been down.  I think I have moved the line where the floor meets the wall back enough so it makes it look more fitting with the height of the fireplace ledge.
