The Zhunite Jong Ship (often mislabelled as the Zhunite Junk Ship by foreigners) is a trading ship frequently seen sailing in small fleets between the Cities of Zhun and Anis Anpagan. A bit more rarely, they've seen internation use for their versatility and reliability.

Design:
Jongs are strong, versatile ships that are capable of sailing anything from the most brutal of seas to shallow rivers. For almost three millennium these ships have been employed by the Zhunites with very little improvements made to anything other than sail material.

Hull:
Typically the hulls of these ships are made from softwood, although when such wood is not in abundance or expensive to important, other woods will suffice. The ships generally range from four to five peds in length, and are usually about one and a half to two peds wide. On the middle of the deck, generally about two peds in length and the full width of the deck, is a small wooden shelter, where cargo is held within a 'pen', that is a slight fenced in pit that leaves only about a fore for walkway on either side. These canopies are built directly around the center masts, with ladders allowing access to the top, where the rig can be accessed.

The stern of a Jong are noticeably raised, often being the feature foreigners can identify it with, and within is the captain's quarters, comparably smaller to those of other ships. Beneath deck, are several compartments, where the rest of the sailors bunk beside rows of oars that are used in the rare occurrence that the wind is lacking in strength.

Jongs, Jonks, or Junks - a natural sliding of pronunciation.... and a nice way to incorporate a mnemonic into the entry!    Might I suggest rephrasing your first sentence in this mode, to make it clearer?

"The Zhunite Jong Ship  -  often called the Jong by Zhunites, and misheard by foreigners as Jonk or Junk - is a trading ship frequently seen....."

I'm looking forward to seeing what else you have to incorporate into this - a great start.  Hope you did check with the relevant authorities for Zhun first! :)

Which would be Decipher Ziron!

We will accept this entry in Nybelmar, but we might ask you to move it to the Scepteres of Tarshiïn, indicated as the "Far Eastern" nation on THIS HERE MAP. They are heavilly influenced by chinese and coastal asian cultures, more so than the Zhunites whom are more of a mix betwen south asian and [mainly] mediterranean styles.

But as i said, wait for Decipher's opinion, he'll be around as soon as he notices the word 'Zhun' in your header.

Oh dear.   As usual, as soon as a new technology appears, it's co-opted by the pirates, pornmerchants, and plunderers - in any world..... (bats lashes at Tharoc)

(sighs dramatically, looks back at Kalo)   I don't expect anyone will turn your Jonks into floating houses of pleasure, but look out for the purveyors of free enterprise!    If these boats (ships?) are at all effective, their styling may spread (have spread/ will have spread ) further abroad than one nation's seacoast...

What!

Zhun!

*is drawn to this thread instantly*

Well though this concept in terms of Terran similarities may be more suited to the Scepteres of Tarshiin, it is perfectly applicable to the Zhunites (who currently actually have defined trade that would require such ships).

Personally, I like the idea and its nice to see someone other than Coren and I developing something in Zhun!

A nice idea- and I hope its not your last addition to the Zhunite coasts!

Decipher

PS: Yes Judy, the Tarshiinites would most likely of developed their own variety....opening up scope for new entries all the time now aren't we.....Would you be interested in developing another variety at some point for them Kalo?

Interesting name you have there Kalo :)

You do have a few awkward formulations there, but I'd say go ahead and finish it and then we can look at them.

I would say that Zhun might be better suited for this and Decipher seems to like it anyway. We might think of more R'unorian influences for Miraran's people (or anything he would like actually - I'm not trying to interfere :P).

Oi!

The Tarshiinites aren't Mira's people!

*huddles the frightened Tarshiinites who for a moment though that silly Vikh was their owner*
