I think I have also completed Judy's challenge of finding error/inconsistency in an entry of her's. It is in the Metals and Minerals section of the compendium.

Quote
Malthanune (Vitrinune, Vitrium, Vitriol)
Also known as “Vitrinune” or “Vitrium”, this fire-classified substance occurs in bluish-green nodules, slightly reflective but also appearing powdery to the eye. Touching the surface of unprocessed Malthanune to verify this, however, is a dangerous test; the substance will ‘melt’ and cling to skin in an oily greenish film, burning it. If not immediately ‘drowned’ or neutralized by water with potash mixed in it, this ‘vitriol’ will begin to actually eat into the flesh beneath, scarring it. Handled with care, Malthanune is useful in cleaning and etching; the nodules are dissolved in a solution (the secrets of which gnomish alchemists keep to themselves) to create Vitriolic Malthanune, its formal name.

Quote
Black Iron, Blue Iron, Red Iron
All forge-wrought variations on iron ore to produce different colours and levels of hardness/brittleness. Black is the hardest but also the most brittle, while red iron dents easily but rarely snaps. (‘Regular’, or ordinary grey iron, stands between blue and red.) Depending on the utility, or sometimes simple aesthetics, the Thergerim smith will choose which colour variant he desires by using different types of chemically-treated charcoal (available from the gnome alchymists), various sorts of quenching liquids (again, often in collaboration with gnome merchants), and possibly trace amounts of other metals.

There you have it. Sorry, Judy. *Gives her a reassuring hug.*

But does this actually count as an error?  Surely the Masterbard can use an alternate spelling once in a while.  Chaucer and Shakespeare got away with it--heck, Shakespeare didn't even spell his own NAME consistently.  :D

I can understand using an alternate spelling of certain words, hence why I use the practice of British spellings being preferred here even though I'm an American. However, alchemist/alchymist? I'm not so sure. Why don't we just wait for a while until more of our fellow developers give their opinions. Also, when are the awards over? Just so I know how long I have to finish minor edits to Attack the Castle and Infernal Sphere.

Hmm, I think alchemists was the old form we used for "chemistry", but with the time we Santharised more and more words and out came alchymists.

Hmmm....Well I would consider both gramatically correct in a Santharian context since we dont have 'chemicals' we have 'chymicals'. So, we don't have 'chemists', we have 'chymists'. I would just guess that the same would extend to 'alchymist' if the developer in question chose to portray it as so...

*nods* Alchymist is Gnomic, whilst Alchemist is Tharian. Both are valid words in here, although non-tharian terms are often preferred.

All have spoken on this matter except the Bard herself. Where is she? *Looks around for Judy.*

Yep, it's simply a Gnomic variation. Nothing to see here, folks!  :)

...Right, Judy?
