This nice frog is not yet on the site?

Glad to have you back :)

Yay - welcome back, Val! It's been a while since we heard from you :) But I'm glad that you haven't forgotten about us and your little frog here! Hope we'll hear more regularly from you this year ;)

How is this?

I don't have the saved file from my computer, so I had to save it from this thread and work on it without all of the nifty layers I had.

I like it.  I think it looks great.  He could probably use some more shiny highlights (the one's you have are very small) to make him look moist and wet.  However that is not necessary and I think it looks good as it is.

Well done!

Love it!

It's deft how you convey the baniop's miniscule size using the leaf texture as background. Aura!

I think the frog could use a slightly more distinctive texture, so I tried to apply one so that you know what I mean, Val (hope it doesn't work "against character") - what do you think about this version?

Here is my alternative suggestion.  All I did here is add more highlights (painted and smudged) and darkened the shadows on the frog (burn tool).

I am providing this version as an example (Art please don't use it I would prefer the frog that is posted is all done by Val)

Yes, the highlights/shadows also add a good deal, very nice Seeker! :D - That was definitely still missing!

Of course I wait for Val to get an OK on the final pic. Could also apply the texture I used above on the second version if Val likes it, makes it look a bit more organic methinks.

I agree with Seeker. That texture looks nice on the frog, but it is another frog, somehow. Less slimy and wet. And you clearly see, that a texture was applied, because it is too regular. My favourite would be also, if Val added some more highlights and depths as Seeker proposed it. Maybe a few finer structures in the red, with a simple brush.

Well, but it is up to Val of course ! :D

Physical examples were unnecessary.

Here you go, though. I've shaded and highlighted and such, but any texture I put on the frog looks strange to me- not like the slippery, slimy thing it is. Also, I just read the Baniop entry again and realized I missed the colours of its eyes, which are green with unspecified coloured lines through it. So I'll fix that very soon...

Let me know if there's anything else wrong with it.

The eyes are quite fine they way they are. It's a sort of pea soup green, rather than say lime green or forest green, but I think it looks more natural in any case.

Gentlemen, let's not forget that Val is the author of this particular image. While I appreciate the good-natured attempts to improve on the image, the image has to look like the creature, which is quite plainly coloured as far as things like textures and what not go. Blue body, red stripes, green (or green-ish) eyes.

Val, I'm quite content with your most recent draft, if no one else has any problems, I'd love to see this put up.
