Jonael

Not sure if you saw that I bumped this the other day, or perhaps you are purposely ignoring it  grin.  This looks like it is pretty close to be done (but I could be wrong).

Woops, haha, nah hadn't noticed this got bumped.

It was actually quite funny how I recalled this entry: I was brainstorming around for a composition of the background to Jonael's portrait, and in designing his study I though: Mhm, he needs a cool chair.." And then it dawned on me.. "Wait, I've had this thought already!"

So here I am, finally finding this piece of parchment again. Keep your eyes pealed for more updates on this chair, hopefully I'll get it done soon ^^

As always, if you wish to have one in your own Compendium Office, just drop us an order form. Special discount apply for fellow researchers, hehe

Questions so far:

A. Brownie folk, could it be possible that some of the Bead-Industry's best could have been convinced to craft beads from metal after all, or would that just really be out of the question? If it is, then I'll go for wooden bearings, though loadings will put more strain on the bearing that way, I think that if appropriately sized and placed, the loading of the seated researcher will be spread sufficiently to not cause too many problems.

B. What was the date (year) in Santharia, one year ago from now?

The previous year was 1669 (the date is listed at the top of the main page on the main site, just for future reference.)

Cool... Do you only need to update the green words now, Jonael? Because the entry looks quite complete (I assume the entry ends with the ---, the rest is just advertisment of a travelling salesman... :) - Would be great to get stool and pic up this update, and there's not much missing here methinks. Really cool idea, and with the picture an entirely new and well realized concept!  thumbup

Aye, once I get the green bits filled in properly that should be the entry completed. On the illustration side I suppose there's just that shadow under the one leg left if I'm not mistaken?

I can have those done in no time, so it should be ready soon enough ^^

As for the green bits:

A. Mechanika - just needs a paragraph of explanation

B. Material - as soon as a Brownie expert tells me whether I can use metal or have to switch to wood that's that

C.
Quote
1. The Seat: This part consists of the disk onto which the researcher sits. Though the prototype consisted of a smooth polished wood surface, later designs soon made use of cushions and small forms of back support for those researchers who spend ages on end behind their desks. Some researchers even went as far as re-fitting their seats with some of the finest materials from all over Caelereth. It is whispered throughout the Compendium that <Researcher> spent up to <sum of money> fitting their Swivelstool with <material>. Once again this idea follows the ideal of Mechkanika: The chair’s individual pieces can be customized according to the user’s needs without affecting the general function of the item.

For this selection of 'greens' I was hoping one of the fellow researchers out there could volunteer for the position and tell me a set of words to fill into there, so that they relate to a customization of the chair they would have purchased... if that makes sense? Just to make the entry a little spicier and incorporated ^^ Any volunteers?

{Joke}well ... I volunteer Tharoc .... who I presume would give it the appearance of a pony and didn't actually buy anything ... he 'acquired' the fyrite (polished to a bright pink) from the Thrumgolz who didn't stop him as they were overcome with peels of laughter on seeing a mighty orcish 'warrior' riding a pony.

Either that, or they were overcome from the fumes being given off by an orc that hadn't washed for several days weeks months years.{/Joke}

We dinnae inform ourselves of the status of the bead-makin' industry, m' lad, but iffen ye wants somethin' made properlike in metal, ye asks a dwarf, not a wee Brownie...

Liddle round metal spheres, eh?  How big, an' how many?  Yer local Thergerim jewelsmith will be happy ta help ye out - in exchange for some well-seasoned wood, or we always tek cash....

"Jonael blushes, his cheeks almost matching the fiery colour of his gingers hair. He knows not how to explain to the dear Thergerim that he'd completely forgotten the dawrves' master craftsmanship extended to small and delicate things such as the bearings he's looking for. A sheepish smile crosses his face, and while one hand passes through his short spiky hair almost apologetically, the other reaches into his robes and emerges with a wee scroll and a bag of coins. "Dear Jewelsmith, my apologies. Here is a list of what I'd be needin' and this payment here should cover all your troubles or expenses. I thank you dearly"

Wicked, that's that green patch sorted then ^^

Hi Jonael,

How about:

Among the sages of New-Santhala, there goes a rumour that the compendiumist Shabakuk Zeborius Anfang expended no less than three silverbards to have his five-legged swivelstool fitted with a cushion of Carmaladian velvet, and to have said cushion embroidered by seamstresses of the Fymbel guild. The embroidery is said to be a faithful copy of the famous “Cycle of Life” tapestry that hangs in the Lorehold library in Lorehaven.

A few comments:

...You’ve still got your design's old name (rota chair) in the text a few times, for example in the Overview.

Quote
The prototype constructed in Compendium itself measured 3 fores in height and had a seat diameter of one and a half fores.
… three fores … (write small numbers in words)

Quote
3. The Legs: The legs are the most decorated part of this construct. Their design can be altered to incorporate all kinds of art or materials, as long as the simple concept of a minimum of four legs is kept in place, giving stability to the chair. Prototypes of the Swivelstool consisted of four legs and the design was deemed unstable by some of the testers, thus modifying future designs of the chair.
I think you meant to say: “ … three legs …”. (Because you say above that four legs are in fact the minimum workable number.) While I’m here, may I venture a suggestion (partly because a chair doesn’t really ‘consist of’ its legs, it ‘has’ legs – but partly because I had an idea)?

“Early prototypes of the Swivelstool were three-legged, but this design proved unstable, as some test-sitters swivelled about all too enthusiastically, toppled over and had to be attended to by the servants of Nethor. Unfortunately, the victims of these accidents lacked understanding of the principles of mechkanica, and therefore believed their mishaps to be potents of demonic forces, which they assumed to be at work in the Swivelstools. Jonael Tomeskrift had to summon all his charme and powers of persuasion to convince his test-sitters that their injuries were naught but the natural results of a minor design flaw. Thus, and with Seyella’s help, Tomeskrift succeeded in preventing the spread of ugly rumours that might well have brought the swivelstools into irredeemable disrepute.”

Feel free to reject or adapt as wanted!
