Yes, at least in the beginning, where I'd like to talk about the maritime currents and the winds on a big scale. The currents would affect Nybelmar as well.

I'm currently fighting with the wind pattern (oh this disk!).

Could you live in Nybelmar with a general/main  wind direction from west to east and east to west? (Local varieties are always possible.)

'Global' winddirection for Nybelmar, which could be changed through several other things which influence the climate/winds etc. but let us discuss this, when I got to "winds". Like the winds are predominantly coming from a certain direction on earth as well.

Old Thread Maritim Currents

I think I might have grasped it now. There will be no stillstand of the water, but while it doesn't move from north to south or vice versa, it does rotate and we will actually have a current from west to east /east to west or vice versa the other time.

Maybe that east/ west current is much weaker than the north /south. Would  bring cold fertile  water to some coasts and enable voyages to Nybelmar.  If a warm water current on the bottom of the sea makes sense, don't know, have to study Altario's link better.

Well, basically, we have to decide about the phenomen, what the people experience, the how we can leave to later (which wil be anyway just speculations)

I wandered through entry and have returned, dazed and confused! Note, this is no where near any of my areas of expertise, but I see the rational for it. So as far as discussion, what needs to be decided? You mention the following:

We have to decide about the phenomena:
What phenomena? Can we break this up into currents and winds? Do we need to decide weather like hurricanes/typhoons, tropical storms?  What about them do we need to decide? Maybe we can make a list of what about them we need to discuss: Direction in Spring/Direction in Summer/etc.?

What the people experience:
This is a great initial question, I think: We need to look at the entries done on the site, maybe, and see how we've traditionally written about climate. We know (simply) that it's cold in winter and warm in summer. Seeing how we've characterized Caelereth's experience with these things thus far will give us a leaping-off point.

This is also an issue we will need to discuss AFTER we discuss the first issue: what generalizations can we make about Caelereth's activity given these circumstances? Particularly (as was discussed in the old thread) concerning trade.

Speculation:
Also a good thing to keep in mind, especially as we're discussing. I think in a lot of cases we have a tendency to want to fit all the missing holes. Bringing up speculation early will ensure that we remain aware of this option as we develop.


if I may suggest a starting point, what generalizations can we make about Caelereth's experience of these patterns and what sort of new questions do we need to answer?

I don't want to do it too detailed, Rayne. My only goal was, to get an icefree part in the north and invented therefore the currents. Of course, currents and winds go together, but it is easier to do one first and decide about the other later.

We know more about weather as just warm and cold. There is a climate thread somewhere  - with some quarrel in it. But I don't want to go in such detail. Currents affect of course the landmasses, winds even more, but again, I basically only want to decide, from which main directions the wind blows in winter, or summer.

If I might ask, is this discussion intended to turn into an entry of some sort? What are we trying to decide, and what is our end goal?

In order to better focus our discussions, you might consider what specific questions we'll need to answer. These will no doubt be directly connected to the type of entry you want to create. How detailed do you want to be? What specific issues do you want the entry to address? How do you envision people using this entry? These are all good questions to ask before we really dive into discussion. It may be hard to think about these sorts of things first. You might consider going back to the old entry you started and seeing how you want to revise it. What sections should it have, and what should each section address? You might begin writing the entry as best you can as a starting point for discussion. Personally, I find that I don't often know what my biggest problems will be until I've actually started writing.

I'm not really inclined to take up the discussion again at this point. We did discuss, and afterwards there seemed no interest for more. I will postpone that until after Christmas, make a proposal and then we will see, if people have an opinion about this and if we can have a discussion about a more concrete subject.

My thought was this was a generalization.  Any particular point can have its own abberations to this.  More of a developers thread than a true entry, though, like Talia has mentioned, a Stormcloak entry would make sense.  Nothing is ever really set in stone to those with imagination, o which this site is lucky enough to have in abundance. :D
