I am going to create an overview for each of the categories, so the Dragons/Drakes/Nethers/Dracoids can be listed within it for a small description/overview of each one. In other words, putting the categorisation I did, to work!

Dragons are magnificent and enigmatic creatures of ancient power and profound wisdom, deemed by many to belong to the most noble race in Caelereth. Their complex language and magical ascendancy baffles many who attempt to study them, as they have spent centuries building and perfecting their methodologies. They are respected by their lesser kin and all other races for their knowledge and abilities, having commanded armies of Drakes and other lesser races in past battles. The unity amongst the creatures is nearly unbreakable, despite the individual differences between many of them.

  **

Following is a list of all the Dragons known in the lands of Caelereth, sorted alphabetically:[/color]

BLACK DRAGON, THE
The Black Dragon is a creature of horrific appearances and temperament. Inhabiting the Peninsula of Kr'uul, it appropriately makes it home in the Mountains of Despair.
~:~ Colour - Metallic Black
~:~ Length - 35peds
~:~ Breath Attack - Acid
~:~ Magic - Shadow Manipulation

BLUE DRAGON, THE
~:~ Colour - Metallic Blue
~:~ Length - 32peds
~:~ Breath Attack - Water
~:~ Magic - Water Manipulation
~:~Territory - ???
~:~ Skills - Poor flyer; Moderate swimmer

BUTTERFLY DRAGON, THE

CLOUD DRAGON, THE
The Cloud Dragon is quite unusual. It has a rounded appearance that most dragons do not, and its hide is extremely soft. It is pure white and has blue eyes. Cloud Dragons live in the sky and conceal themselves in the clouds. It feeds on water in any state.
~:~ Colour - Pure white to light grey
~:~ Length - 27peds
~:~ Breath Attack - Steam
~:~ Magic - Water manipulation
~:~Territory - Clouds spread out over Caelereth
~:~ Skills - Excellent flyer

COPPER DRAGON, THE
~:~ Colour - Copper
~:~ Length - 30peds
~:~ Breath Attack - Acid
~:~ Magic - none
~:~Territory - Stone Fields of Peat
~:~ Skills - Moderate flyer; heat resistance

EARTH DRAGON, THE
Deep in the heart Sarvonia in the Tandala Mountains and Calmarios Forest, a creature of immense strength and endurance can be found. The Earth Dragon is the sturdiest of all the Dragons, as well as the shortest at the shoulder by a good margin. Growing only to about 30 peds length, they are one of the smaller dragons. This is for logical purposes. They are the diggers of the earth, tunnellers and dwellers of the deepest places on Caelereth. Wingless and covered in stubby knobs, these creatures are far from what would be considered beautiful. Their tail, balled at the end and covered in similar knobs which cover the rest of its body, is one of their methods of tunnelling and main physical defense against other dragons. Coloured like the earth around them, they range from a sand colour to a dark brown with the females having a greenish hue. Their breath attack of acid is a viable form of defense, but it also serves a more methodical purpose for them. Since they are diggers, their acid is used to help weaken the earth in which they move, making it easier to break down the solidity of the rock. Shapers and moulders of the earth, their magical abilities go beyond the physical tunnelling and digging they perform. They are the creators of the grand caverns in which some dragons reside; caverns fit for royalty in their exquisite proportions. Using their abilities, they form the pillars and craft the ornamentation by word and ability alone, leaving their tools for more rough formations. Despite their size and rough appearance, these creatures are a far cry from being troublesome. Keeping to themselves and interacting only when necessary, they are often labeled the "Gentle Giants" of the dragons. Their diet is no surprise once one knows their temperament, as they feast happily on berries, fruits, and green vegetation, not the meat of other animals. The lifespan of these gentle giants is quite unknown, as it is believed they have been around since the very beginning of time. Yet, the floating estimate is believed to be around 5,000 years, give or take a millennium or two.

FIRE DRAGON, THE
The Fire Dragon gets its name from the hues of its scales, which are varying shades of redish gold. Adult males often have a black stripe of scales which starts at the crest of their head and continues down their back to the tip of their tail. Fire Dragons make their homes within volcanoes, near the boiling magma. They are very aggressive, territorial, and powerful, making them creatures often best left alone. Through its gratuitous use of fire, the Dragon has also earned its name, as well as its fire based magical powers. Out of all fire-breathing dragons, they have the ability to breathe fire for the longest period of time. Their flames are greatly feared for often a village has fallen prey to the scorching flames of an angry Fire Dragon.
~:~ Colour - Red-Gold
~:~ Length - 36peds
~:~ Breath Attack - Acidic Fire
~:~ Magic - Fire Manipulation
~:~Territory - Celeste Mountains
~:~ Skills - Expert Flyer, turning into a fireball.

ICE DRAGON, THE
The Ice Dragon or Evathón'Dalá is approximately 20 peds in height from base of their body to the tip of its head. Wing span is equaling its body length and the tail varying from the same to double that of the body. Definitely a huge dragon. Living in the colder areas of Caelereth, the Ice Dragon is able to withstand extreme colds. It also has the ability to fly to great heights, often using the clouds and its skin to reflect the colours of the cloud and pass by the main lands un-noticed by the life below. These dragons also have the ability to swim in water for a limited amount of time.
~:~ Colour - Bluish White
~:~ Length - 25peds
~:~ Breath Attack - Ice
~:~ Magic - Ice manipulation
~:~Territory - Ae'Os'the'er'oc
~:~ Skills - Withstanding great cold, good grip on icy surfaces.

WHITE DRAGON, THE (IVORINE)
~:~ Colour - Pure White
~:~ Length - 34peds
~:~ Breath Attack - Ice
~:~ Magic - Ice Manipulation
~:~Territory - Peninsula of Iol
~:~ Skills - Mellow; withstanding great cold; Willingness to be ridden.

NYSL, THE
The Nysl is the smallest dragon to live in Sarvonia. It stands at an average full height of twenty-seven nailsbreadths and seventeen nailsbreadths at the shoulder. This small creature makes its home in the Vale with the Llaoihrr Brownies, being quite content with such small company. The oopper Nysl in the Vale have been integrated into the Browniin society for a variety of purposes, being companions and mounts for those who they have found favour with as well as providing armour. Some of the Nysl have found the knowledge the Llaoihrr possess to be intriguing, and find conversations with them to be fascinating as well as stimulating. They have also taken a liking to the Redbarks in particular, having a curiosity for the Life Magic these Brownies practice. Though they have magic of their own, they are eager to learn new things and have been attempting to grasp some basic concepts of what Life Magic contains, but find it to still be beyond what they understand. Like their cousins, the drakes, they are known for a prolonged lifespan of nearly 200 years

PURPLE DRAGON, THE
~:~ Colour -
~:~ Length -
~:~ Breath Attack -
~:~ Magic -
~:~Territory -
~:~ Skills -

RED DRAGON, THE
~:~ Colour - Dark Red
~:~ Length - 33peds
~:~ Breath Attack - Fire
~:~ Magic - Fire Manipulation
~:~Territory -
~:~ Skills -

SEA DRAGON, THE
Sea Dragons mainly live in the seas and in subterranean caverns below the sea. The are capable of flying and can cast magic, but their most feared ability is their breath weapon: Sea Dragons are able to spew clouds of scalding hot steam, capable of boiling flesh from bones, up to a distance of ten peds. The Sea Dragon's appearance may make it appear to be rather harmless but this is quite far from reality. They are capricious, ill-tempered, the most disagreeable and sadistically cruel creature on the face of Caelereth. They believe all other creatures are beneath them, even other dragon species.
~:~ Colour - Bluish Green
~:~ Length - 36peds
~:~ Breath Attack - Scalding Water
~:~ Magic - Water Manipulation
~:~Territory - Eight Winds Bay; and others

WATER DRAGON, THE
~:~ Colour - Dark Blue
~:~ Length - 29peds
~:~ Breath Attack - Scalding Water
~:~ Magic - Water Manipulation
~:~Territory - Any sea, river, or lakes which has room for it.
~:~ Skills - Enjoys fresh and salt water

WIND DRAGON, THE
~:~ Colour - Grey
~:~ Length - 26peds
~:~ Breath Attack - Wind
~:~ Magic - Wind Manipulation
~:~Territory -
~:~ Skills - Hovering and gliding on the winds.

That's a lot of dragon types.

Some may be combined down the road. But yes, there are quite a few types, but not that many of each type ^.~

It seems dragon entries were popular to write over the years...and no one until now really kept these beasts in check from spreading  :P

Hi Kalina! Haven't had time to read this in full yet - but I do remember someone creating a sunset dragon (cannot remember the full name) for Nybelmar. I think it also produced wind-like music?

EDIT: Also, are you going to include legendary dragons here - or will that be another overview? (Btw, does legendary = mythical = existence disputed?)

EDIT2: At the beginning of each of these overviews, could you please include a 'links section' where you list all the dragon entries/overviews you are working on? That way people can read all the relevant entries and see the big picture. Otherwise we might miss stuff (for instance, I'm still hazy on the difference between 'drakes' and 'wyrms' but I'm not sure which entry/overview to read to find out about that)

This should be found under Legendary Dragon Overview.

Legendary Dragon Overview It will be my next project.

And yes - Disputed, but not disproved.

The problem is, I am almost completely revamping most of these because of inconsistencies, which is why I am doing this in the first place. Yes, some of the information may be the same in the overviews versus the entries, but I plan on going through and completely rewriting or editing the current entries for consistency, since there is a great lacking of it throughout all of the Santharian Draconics.

I hope you understand my reasoning on that. I also plan on making these greatly detailed, so links may or may not be necessary for the "Big Picture" - which would just confuse everyone anyways.

The difference between Drakes and *Worms* (read the top of the Drake Overview), is one is more serpent-like, to the point of lacking limbs and possibly wings and are mostly found in water. Unlike the Drakes which are mostly land creatures, have your limbs, wings, and your general characteristics when you think of drakes.

The difference between Dragons and Drakes is significant. Not only will size play a factor, but they are sentient creatures (something which has been disputed on the boards as to its meaning.) They are their own race, a group of "people".

Kalina

1.  I see in the overview here that the dragons (not drakes) are very wise creatures with complex languages etc etc.  In essence Dragons are sentient whilst drakes are animalistic.  However many of the dragon entries are written as if they are animalistic.  Is part of the dragon ovrhaul to fix the entries?

2.  Are you intending to say if the dragon is good or evil as is shown in the first few dragons in the overview.  This could be problematic as good and evil is relative.  Perhaps we mean from the human perspective?

3. If dragons 9not the drakes) are indeed sentient races perhaps they could be included in the RACES menu as well as the BEASTIARY once the overhaul is finished.

Yes. It is. At least some of them. Some dragons will be more animalistic than others, as there will be personalities and behavioural aspects which will take into effect. Streamlining the information and giving a distinction between drakes, dragons, and the legendary. At least from the researchers point of view. From the commoner, a drake is a dragon and a dragon is a dragon. So, why go through all the trouble with this streamlining if the average person just clomps them all together? Because there are a good number of people which would know the difference and have written up the differences. (At least in my mind). Dragons are not unapproachable by the right person. The wrong person, yes.

And I am rambling, forgive me. I sometimes get carried away.

2.  Are you intending to say if the dragon is good or evil as is shown in the first few dragons in the overview.  This could be problematic as good and evil is relative.  Perhaps we mean from the human perspective?

It was an experiment, and not necessarily something I am going to put into the overviews or entries. Sorry about that. Was just thinking...while writing.

3. If dragons 9not the drakes) are indeed sentient races perhaps they could be included in the RACES menu as well as the BEASTIARY once the overhaul is finished.

This is possible. Would be up to Arti honestly, if he would think it would be a good idea (or whoever has the last say). How I would like to handle the Legendary dragons, is write People entries for them, at least in the perspective of what we "know" about them. I think it would be cool to have such a catalog on the site.

I am tentatively done with the Earth Dragon overview. I am not sure how much I like it right now, but it is a starting point for how the rest are going to look.

It is setup similarly to that of the Drake overviews. Meant to be a mini-entry in and of itself, providing plenty of information, while leaving more the specific and expressive descriptions for the actual entry.

Thoughts/suggestions?

Hi Kalina,

that's a massive undertaking you've started here. Since you asked for comments on the Earth Dragon, I thought I'd give it a try from the perspective of an ignoramus draconis (i.e., one uneducated in dragon lore).

Deep in the heart of the Tandalas and Calmarios (maybe say: … "Tandala Mountains and Calmarios Forest, on the border between Southern and Northern Sarvonia" … - when I was a newbie, I always liked it when an unfamiliar name was accompanied by enough information for me to infer what kind  of thing I was dealing with; that is here: a forest and a mountain range; and I think it’s useful to put a geographic orientation in there, too), a creature of immense strength and endurance can be found. The Earth Dragon is the sturdiest of all the Dragons, as well as the shortest by a good margin.(According to the measurement you give below – 34 peds – the Earth Dragon is not actually the shortest of dragons, but one of the larger ones. Which information is correct?)  This is for logical purposes. They are the diggers of the earth, tunnellers and dwellers of the deepest places on Caelereth. Wingless and covered in stubby knobs, these creatures are far from what would be considered beautiful. Their tail, balled at the end and covered in similar knobs which cover the rest of its body, is one of their main methods of tunnelling (They dig with their tails? It may be my ignorance of Earth Dragons, but I can’t quite picture how that works. Isn’t it more likely that they would use a combination of acid and claws, as well as maybe the mouth? I can imagine some  use of the tail for digging, but how could it be one of the main means of tunelling?) and physical defense against other dragons. Despite their size and rough appearance, these creatures are a far cry from being troublesome. Keeping to themselves and interactiving only when necessary, they are often labeled the "Gentle Giants" of the dragons. Yet, the floating estimate is believed to be around 5,000 years, give or take a millennium or two. (One aspect that I was missing while reading: which Santharian tribes know about these dragons, and interact with them in whatever manner? You do say that Earth Dragons tend to be reclusive, but if, say, certain dwarves or humans sometimes encounter them, it would be interesting to give a little hint as to how dragon and non-dragons would react to one another. Also, your overview doesn’t mention the magic at all, although I imagine it is quite an important aspect of the dragons’ lives?)

~:~ Colour - Sandy to Dark Brown
~:~ Length - 34peds (See above, but also: might it be more useful to give a size range , rather than a single figure, since most creatures’ sizes tend to vary quite a bit? Or else you could say “up to 34 peds”, if this is supposed to be the maximum?)
~:~ Breath Attack - Acid
~:~ Magic - Earth/Rock Manipulatiuon
~:~Territory - Various mountain ranges
~:~ Skills - Flightless; Expert tunnelers/diggers

In the Tandalas, one would assume the goblins living in those mountains would have some knowledge or lore of such a beast...

Ok...so all of these overviews are going to be insanely long. I hope this is okay with Arti.

I will see what I can do. Been trying to keep it on the short side so people don't get bored reading this.

I meant shortest as in height, not length. I will clarify this.

You can't imagine a dragon banging against the solid rock with its tail? These tunnels aren't exactly going to be narrow, as their whole body has to fit into them.

To me, the mention of where this information is obtained, belongs in the actual entry, not the overview. I am trying my best to keep these as simple as I can, not providing all the information but enough for people to picture these creatures and have an idea where they live. The nitpicky details should be left to the entry. I had a difficult time enough sorting out where these creatures were located for the time being (most of them, some still need to be placed), trying to determine who observed them and what not is another battle in and of itself atm. Again, I feel this information belongs in the entry, not an overview unless by brief mention of "humans/elves/dwarves/etc in the area". Nothing specific.

As for the magic, mere oversight amongst the all the information already provided.

EDIT: I made all the alternations, hopefully to satisfaction, except the part about "who encounters". I did some research, and thinking dwarves would be a good fit, but the only ones in the area are mythical. Same with the elves. Humans, wouldn't necessarily be fascinated with the creatures, more fearful in my mind, not really giving a good representation of their true nature. (knowing how humans in the past and today react to things.) With this in mind, I will wait until I have the entry to really expand upon this properly.
