This is an extremely horrifying entry!

Wait, let me rephrase that.

This entry is filled with horrors!

Much better.

Anyway, these Skylings truely seem like some of the worst things someone can encounter. I get the image of the wives of Dracula (in vampire form) from the newer movie of Van Helsing. Obviosuely women, definently humanoid, and completely feral. For some reason I have the idea of them staying together in chaotic packs, with all of them constantly trying to take control, seems very beastlike and human like to me.

Idea for origin.

Cursed by [insert all powerful being here], there could have only been a handful of the Skyling's at first, but they reproduced. If the originals were cursed it could expalin the humanoid form, and beastal behaviour.

JUst my two sans dropped in the P.O.O.R. box.

Well I would like to see it finished...There are a number of 'Works in Progress' in the bestiary and as the moderator I am supposed to facilitate such progress.

If you are preoccupied with other projects of course pursue those. I had initially thought that an inability to compromise this debate was the reason it wasn't completed.

Oh no... I can overcome the compromise aspect.  I'll either change it or just push it through and argue.  Haven't decided which yet.

I'm used to fighting Talia.

I'm used to fighting Azhira.

I'm not sure if I can handle BOTH Talia and Azhira at once.  I may be overmatched. :P

But when you find the time I would appreciate you paying some attention to this. I think it would make a fine addition to the bestiary.

Well there is a precedent for developers to describe 'unciviliised' semi-races with a bestiary entry. The Cairnhoom, for example, are in reality a completely sentient race of magical rockmen. However, as it would not be appropriate for a compendiumist to view them in the light of a 'race' (no other race can understand their language or their customs and they have no settlements etc. that would hint at a similar level of sentience and civilisation) they are described as if they were feral beasts.

I think the same principle applies to the Skyling.

Hey Alt, rereading I don't find the idea so bad... but my own arguments from above convinced me... buck

But while reading I had an idea. I'll just type it down quickly without much thinking if it makes sense!

Dev fact: There are creatures with humanoid bodies and wings (but maybe bigger than described, so that they really can carry them) . They have fur or a tough skin to protect them from the cold (or invent anything fitting). They are adapted to their environment and probably NOT looking like a voluptuous woman.

However, they have the ability to influence the brains of their victims in a way, so that the victim is driven towards them. Influence= letting them see something desirable. Not an image of your dead wife or child, but aiming at deeper layers it would probably be  - when human men are concerned  - a voluptuous woman as you described it.

It could be, for a woman, a (naked) man with (special) extraordinary qualities also, or a male bear would see/sense a female bear.. But those encounters would be recorded only rarely and the bulk would be your women.

The awful mouth may be the only thing the victims really see, when they get bitten, so their true form might not often be seen, only by a friend who witnessed an encounter - but that friend's brain is influenced also. Maybe there are really only glimpses or their true form.

So, in the end you would only need to add some hints that your description may not be not entirely accurate...
