Another one in the works here. Not much done yet, but I'm working on it. My muse has returned, but I have no idea how long it will be for. So I've decided to get as many things done as possible before it disappears again.  ;) Also working on a picture too, so watch this space! Thanks for looking!  :)

Scarlet Thunderfoot Beetle (Tent-builder Bug)

Overview

Deep in the forests, on the island of Odesma, lives a unusual-looking, and fascinating member of the insect family. The Scarlet-Thunderfoot Beetle lives exclusively on this small island, in the Scattersand Shoals, and spends its days, trundling along, looking for strong fallen branches, to enable it to construct it's most ingenious of homes. True to its other name, Tent-builder Bug, the Beetle will construct a crudely-built house from it's gathered wood, and cover it in a glue, of its own making, in order to cover it in moss. It makes the perfect hiding place, for the Beetle's striking red armour, through which to ambush it's unsuspecting prey.

Appearance

To see one from the back, one could almost mistake the Scarlet-Thunderfoot Beetle for a shiny red boulder. When viewed from the front, on the other hand, it's a whole different story. Huge, jet-black mandibles protrude from the mouthparts of the creature, each one nearly a fore in length. They curve upwards slightly, to aid the animal in transporting its quarry. The inner edge of each mandible is jagged, much like the blade of a blood-thirst dagger, and perfect for aiding the animal in the cutting-up of branches and small logs. They open up to a fore in width, and a few, very unlucky individuals have discovered just how strong these mighty jaws can be. The following is an account, made by an unfortunate young deckhand, who was out hunting for game on the island...

...COMING SOON!...

The Beetle is named so, because of the trunk-like appendage, attached to it's head, which is shared with the enormous thunderfoot. Size is another thing that the two have in common, for, though the Beetle can't compare with the Thunderfoot's maximum height of six peds, it is amongst the largest insects in Caelereth, growing up to 2 fores in  length, excluding the mandibles, and the same in girth.

Researchers

Most of the research for the Scarlet-Thunderfoot Beetle, has been done by the renowned Eyelian researcher, Genani Tallclimber Ra'anouf, who has dedicated her life to discovering the flora and fauna of the Scattersand Shoals.
