Are there any active volcanoes in North Sarvonia other than the Celeste Mountains? If not, that is surprising, given the wild, uncivilized territory of the North. I am considering placing a volcano in Caaehl'heroth - Mount Osthen or Mount Aesh. One could develop much history and lore around a volcano, especially from the orcs and the relative proximity to the Deep Winds tower.

Yeah, only the Celeste Mountains so far have explicitly been drawn that way. But in the northwest where there's a hell of a lot happening a volcano definitely fits. So I support the idea to but something in there which reminds us of the pure forces of the Earth!  thumbup

Further northeast it gets more icy, so probably not that much volcanic action - then again when I think about Iceland... there you have glaciers and volcanoes right together...

There is a lot of volcanic activity in the Northeast also, maybe not necessarily fuming monsters, but we need definitely some warmth there to not freeze to death entirely. EG those hot springs in the Icelands, does not have Alt some lavapools in the Antislar area also? I need caves with hot lakes for the Himiko and if i remember right, then Alt wanted to have an undersea volcano in the bay of Calinth to be able to send out his boats a bit longer than the weather would allow. As the west seems to be warmer anyway, a volcano or two would surely fit well there.

Talia is correct.  Isthmus of Doom will have many lava pools (Doom Steel), and the valcanoe will provide a warmth for the Bay of Calinth.  Also, Lofty Lake will be the remains of an old Volcanoe, formed in the caldera.  I need one or two more in Iol.  Ice tribes, I wanted one for the Frozen Wastes.  Gathorns, not so much.

Volcanoes and ice can indeed coexist. Iceland's most active volcano, Grímsvötn, is a caldera under a lake under the ice in the middle of Europe's largest glacier: the geothermal heat keeps the lake's water liquid, but the cold of the surrounding ice makes that the lake is permanently frozen over.

Iceland's most dangerous volcano, Katla, is likewise located under glacier ice. The danger is not due to the threat of magma or ash, but to the floods of meltwater that originate when Katla erupts and that may threaten to sweep considerable parts of South Iceland into the sea.

Also, a volcano does not need to be a (high) mountain. Magma may erupt from fissures in the earth - and when it cools, may form relatively flat lava fields. So don't feel restricted in your imagination!

Nice, thanks for the info, Shaba. I'll leave the glacial and underwater volcanoes for Altario. I just want a great big fiery hell on earth volcano like Mount Doom up in Caaehl'heroth somewhere!
