Bats are flying! aaaah

So I was practicing my new "moving painting" spell and something went wrong. The bats came alive! grin

Art I addressed your comments from the bogsnapper in this animation. I have even included a preloader

. If you think these changes work, then I will incorporate the same type of things in the Bogsnapper as well.

I've already seen the animation a few days ago, and it's very cool indeed! Very well done, Seeker! Love it! cool

Hope for more such animations, even though it is quite a bit of work. But once we have such bats for example they could be used in various Santhworld cave scenarios or just as bats flying in the background somewhere. The good thing is that little pieces like this are easily reusable.

The button/preloader handling however is not how I envisioned it:

- The preloader is shortly visible, but doesn't seem to work properly. Ideally we should get something like the Nepris teaser preloader. Well, if you have troubles with it and you can send me the source code I can try to put that preloader in.

- The background of the movie still appears to be white, at least that's what you see first when the movie loads.

- The button probably won't win a design contest. It's often better to make it with Photoshop where you can have glow/highlight filters and drop shadows etc.

- The button also doesn't work exactly as I described it. "Stop" just restarts the movie, so the animation is broken at any rate. The coolest effect would be that when you press the button the animation ends by letting the bats fly out or fade the animation out. Fading the animation out probably isn't that difficult, if you do it in a similar way than in one of my examples. Have you got the burning sword animation already? Or the Crystal Dagger? This is more or less what I have in mind.

What's wrong with having the bats just stop flying where they are? It's not like pictures don't have sstationary unsuspended things in them ever.

@Ath: Well, that's just a suggestion of my side. It looks smoother (see e.g. the links to the other animations I provided) and more realistic I'd say. Plus for a Flash newbie this should be a nice exercise to learn a thing or two

Thanks for all the encouragement guys. I was wondering if animations like these were something you would enjoy.

Art may appear critical, but he has been coaching me and teaching me how to do these animation. Over the past couple weeks he has sent me some very detailed tutorials. I wouldn't have gotten this far without him. I don't mind being pushed to learn new things as I am barely just getting started. When I have had enough i will let him know.

But for now I will work on those buttons again and getting the closing animation as you suggest. The pre-loader on the hand is going to be over my head. The one I put in was just a copy and paste from a tutorial online. I really didn't know what I was doing. So when the time comes I will need some help there.

Flash is a fun program to learn and use.

I learned it about 8 years ago now. Of course, I haven't used it much since then either. I also learned Director and last year created a display/project in it for my Uncle's funeral. That was great fun, even though the it was for a sad occasion.

I think my favourite part of this picture is probably that bat that hangs upside down on the tree branch, opening and shutting his/her wings.

The big advantage of Flash is that once you do an animation like the bat opening its wings and provided you do it as a an own sub-movie, you can reuse it multiple times in different sizes in the same movie. Plus the movie also doesn't really increase in size. So theoretically you could hang many more up there with minimal effort, Seeker
