Opscurum

   Overview:

The Opscurum or as many call it the „Shade Hound“, is a mystic beast hiding itself in the darkest regions of Cealereth. In the old scripts it stands that the Opscurum is a wolf covered by shadow, enchanted with the power to hide and appear where it sees the best. It is the born hunter of the night and many fell underestimating its unbendable power. Strong in the night weak on light, the Opscurum finds comfort within dark forests and jungles.

   Description:

Educated adventurers and court mages have investigated the Opscurum, though it’s hard to hunt one it’s not impossible, the Opscurum is a rather thin kind of wolf, what makes it special is the skin, it’s different. As soon as the darkness falls over the skin it changes shape and becomes an aura of shadow floating around the body. The people call it “Spiritifying”, where the Opsurum becomes untouchable and can pass through massive and solid objects. The Opscurum is reaches a height of almost 2 fore and 1 palmspan and 1 fore in diameter. It’s weight is irrelevant, after it “Spiritifies” it does not weigh anything. It’s eyes are white colored and do not have any lens. It’s vision is a hundred times stronger than the human’s vision, but it’s deaf.

Ops... I was researching a bit and Talia we both got something to learn :D Obscurum comes from obscure... But it's roots it finds in obscurum what means darkness on latin... But the word obscurum has a twin brother which means the same but is written opscurum :D lol

I've obviously been lurking way too much since yall feel the need to make me work ... ;)

We haven't actually been introduced. I'm Garret, aka Stalker of All Things Canine. I'll be checking in on this and watching it progress.  evil

Btw, what category do you see this falling under? Mythical, Monster, Wild Animals, etc? Designating what kind of beast it will be will help with drawing the interest of the people who focus in that area.

Well, now I don't intend to be a wise ass, but just type in "opscurum" in Google and look at the displayed page and count how many "opscurums" you actually find in those texts. Click further to the next pages and so on. I haven't seen a single "opscurum" on any of the following pages.

Now as someone who had Latin in school I wouldn't say that "opscurum" by any means is the regular Latin expression. It looks more like the Latin page you suggested offers either common misspellings as well and/or practically forms that are practically never used.

However, the question for a fantasy developer should be: What do I want to express with that name? Do you want to allude to "obscure"? If so, it should be made clear with the "b" (and I think that's actually what you want). Or it's something else, then you can be more inventive than just swapping a "b" for a "p" and use, say "Opuscurum" to make it even more mysterious.
