Hi, Aeruillin people!

Could someone suggest a region where a citrus-type tree could grow? Or even better, help develop such a plant for us?

We have no lemons, oranges, mandarins, etc. and could really use some in Caelereth.  Talia suggested that they wouldn't grow well in Sarvonia but probably would be a popular import from Aeruillin.  I think that's a great idea, so if you have any opinions, please put them in this thread!

My concept for these plants are as follows:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Citron

This small shrub is actually a fruit-bearing tree; glossy olive leaves on thick grey branches conceal the fruits until fully ripe.  The deep yellow globes, about the size of a man's fist, have a thick, oily rind with a pungent, refreshing smell, which when broken open shows segmented bright yellow flesh composed of many tiny juicy baglets.  Biting into a segment will cause the baglets to burst into refreshingly tart liquid in one's mouth.

The Argantine:  (also known as Moonfruit)

The Argantine tree is about two to three peds tall, with a straight central trunk and numerous tiny branchlets with a thick puff of greyish leaves at its top.  Scented white flowers soon turn into little green balls, which ripen into the orange Moonfruit.

Tiny juice-filled central spheres are protected by a ring of thick, melon-like orange flesh which in turn is covered by a dimpled deep orange rind.  Here and there on the surface of the Argantine are tiny craters and embedded little black seedlets, giving the whole globe the appearance of a full golden harvest moon.

The Lon-Lon

This heavy melon is a vine-fruit with a powerful citrus taste, more bitter than the Citron and Argantine, but delectable when sprinkled with some sweetening agent, such as a bit of Foridite.   The fruit is more perishable since its flesh resembles the watery crisp pulp of a melon, and does not travel well.

(It should be available throughout Aeruillin but an expensive rarity in Sarvonia, in other words!)

I was looking through the Aeruillin forum section and saw how this fantastic idea had been totally abandonned. Disgraceful!!!

I haven't been around for a bit I suppose, so there wasn't actually anyone to take notice of it. Ah well. I finally have time to devote to Santharia once more and so I think this should be addressed.

I think we could take this idea and have it as a principle trade for one of the ports, so not all of them are reliant on fish as their main export. I think Shan'Furrionis would be the best place, as the Aeolrhan (along with the human tribe (provisional name Furrians) who haven't been written yet) who live there would be fantastic workers on the colourful citrus fields. They would love it. If that makes any sense. I don't know why, but in my mind citrus plants just seem to fit that area. :D . Obviously they can be common around Aeruillin as well, but the main trade of Shan'Furrionis perhaps.

Oh drat. I have to go to serve lunch to the little kiddies now. I forgot. I'll have to add more some other time.

I'm working in a boarding school right now as a Matron, incase you're wondering. Hehe.

I'm actually "working" on the 'lemon' entry (which means I have a few sentences down and scribble a bit more every time my teachers give me a break from homework).

It should be finished some time around the end of October. Bear with me.

If I remember right Bard Judith, the city states have water for irrigation and that was where the idea was to put a bunch of them.  They can probably also be found at an oasis.  Of coarse along the coast would be many too.

Aran - You keep at it hehe, perhaps put a post here when it's done so I can look at it in wonder and amazement. ;) .

Thuja - Yeah, I believe you were right, although those entries haven't been finished yet. That was how Shan'Thai could harvest grain.

Anything happening about this?

If not, it would be a good place to point a few newbies to for their first entry (I KNOW we are trying to stop them from creating beasties and planties for their first entries, but the concept for these is already written and shouldn't be forgotten.).

I knew it was only a matter of time before someone else would notice how badly I'm procrastinating all my Santharian work right now...

Essays, presentations, commentaries... school's stressful, especially the final year.

I'm working on the Citron, I promise! I'll get something posted this week no matter what!

:D .

That's good to hear - no pressure to post it so soon though (seriously), I just wanted to know whether you had forgotten about this and if I could see about assigning it to someone else, that's all. But if you have it sorted, then I'll patiently wait.

Don't worry - I too know what it's like to have so many RL pressures...
