Though I suggested such a "late" date just because of that. Varcopasians were the ones who first discovered Nybelmar indeed. But that happened b.S.. We plan to have another period of isolation (because of some cataclysm on the Crimson Islands that canceled the ship route) that will end this time with Nybelmarians landing on Sarvonia. This should happen a.S. Whether Varcopas managed to get back into an exclusive trade agreement again, that's all up to debate (as none of the continents are there yet with the timeline).

The Crimson Islands (also known as the Ferrath Islands) are supposed to be the staging point - or bottleneck - on the route between Nybelmar and Sarvonia.

The first Varcopasian sailors arrived there around 1100 bS. After meeting the Santerrans (originally Korweynites - but that was before starting to think about the timeline, or really developing the other tribes - Santerrans though make more sense) three ships proceeded further west towards the Nybelmarian shores. They encountered one of the usual storms in the area and two of them sunk, while a third was wrecked on the shores a little bit north of the Moonhills (this was part of that letter-story that I was working on a while ago - I'm having a writer's block with that right now though). Anyway, this is how Sarvonians first learn about Nybelmar, and how the Crimson Islands become quite important.

Then there is supposed to be a cataclysm of some sort, shutting down this bottleneck => no more routes to Sarvonia. Later on, (probably) the Santerrans will manage to find this route again "discovering" Sarvonia (perhaps around 900 aS).

There is also supposed to be quite a big conflict revolving around these islands (could be bS or aS - we haven't decided) as the Anpagans and then also the Korweynites want a piece of the "action" (meaning trade) as well.

On the Sarvonian side I know that bS it was Varcopas holding exclusive rights for any trade with Nybelmar. Then aS I don't know, but it seems that Talia wants to keep the status quo :)

As both Nybelmarian and Sarvonian timelines are still far from being completed, and as this issue is supposed to make the link between these two continents, the matter is still to be discussed - actually postponed until we are really able to safely develop that region.

I can't remember the old discussions about the trade routes . First it was Strata which discovered the Crimson Islands, but we changed this (my wish :)  ) Varcopas would be the first to discover Nybelmar and establish some trade with this tribe which has - female priestesses (my memory! :(  ). But it makes no sense, if Varcopas goes to the Crimson Island which are far up in the north, I always imagined them going straight to the west - look at the map.
The history is fairly undone, so we could establish a lot new things. The trade between Varcipas and Nybelmar could break down because of wars in Sarvonia (I don't look now).  Milkengrad could discover the Crimson Islands a.S, and Varcopas would surely try to establish the old routes again - they know after all, that Nybelmar exists.
Why do you want this new isolation, and how long should it last? As soon as Varcopas has recovered from any war (a century, more?), it will surely send out ships again (and again, we are persistent!). Maybe Nybelmar refuses trade - or we invent a "void instability", strage currents, anything to make shiproutes impassable for some time.

Anyway - I think I have the monopoly with the trade with Nybelmar already (now, there could be some interesting fights between Milkengrad and Varcopas before). That must not mean, that only Varcopasian ships may go there - we can escort some from Milkengrad as well ;)  (I need to tease Curgan again, the last time is too long ago and I still have not my revenge for sacking Strata ;)

Maybe Milkengrad has a trade route to the Crimson Islands, where it trades with Nybelarian ships, but Varcopas is the only which goes direct to all the southern ports? Or Varcopas sits in the Crimson Island as well, but has a hard stand , because Milkengrad is aggressive and constantly tries to get there as well?
(I'm thinking of doing a little histoy for the last two Santharian kings..)

I think I might "pre-pone" (:P) the rebirth of Krath a few centuries back, otherwise I won't be alive when the adventure happens! But that is a very very very distant project anyway

Well, as I said, it's all vague ideas for now. The new isolation? Dunno... I always knew it this way... We could work around a cataclysm or even politics, but that's not the problem.

The problem is the map. I think we might need to adapt those maps a little to fit with the rest of the Nybelmarian entries - like moving the Crimson Islands west of Varcopas, or setting Nybelmar horizontal, as it's supposed to show if you read any Nybelmarian entry.

"setting Nybelmar horizontal"?? what do you mean by this? Could you please point me to a passage in an entry?
I would prefer that Varcopas doesn't  need the Crimson's Islands, but they could go a bit more south. The general map will be changed anyway in the not so near future (adding to the south and north to get a reakl disk)

Then perhaps we can move Sarvonia up a bit to align it with the Crimson Islands. But wouldn't that change everything then? Climate-wise if not anything else... It's the same thing with Nybelmar, as long as it appears as it is on the continent map (which stood at the base of every entry until now), everything is fine. If we "tilt" it that would result in a different shape and different references => we have to rewrite everything => I would kinda hate to know that everything we wrote so far goes down the drain.

The Crimson islands are needed as a staging point and explanation for those periods of isolation - which actually stay at the base of the whole Nybelmar concept. If we decide for the "void bubbles" we can draw the explanation from that, but there are countless other ways to do it also.

We can't move Sarvonia, for the tree of life has to be always in the centre of the disk. We can move Nybelmar, turn it a bit, so that your north really shows to the north. Just think at these maps Art and I did when I was in Vienna. They were proposals, though back then nobody objected and so they might stay. But as long as they are not made freshly and nicely, Nybelmar and the Crimson's islands can be shifted a bit.  The last map is anyway from 7500b.S., so this doesn't affect your history.

Look here:

I might sooner or later do something with these maps (more later, in the summer), then you can still tell me what you want.

I know you cannot move Sarvonia, that was my point exactly. The last map looks almost ok, you need to tilt Nybelmar just a bit more, so it would show as in the continent map (horizontal). Then you might move the Crimson Islands a bit to the south (and maybe shrink them quite a bit) so they would be aligned with Varcopas.
