Here's a proposal on how to handle quests within the game. It's just a small sidequest, which we should try to integrate to see if there are still things we haven't thought about. The room description additions allocated to a quest will be placed in the rooms, as for the dialogues: we can't realize these things 1:1 in the Dialogue Editor at the moment, but we'll see about this. Let me know, Humangus, if this quest concept is workable.

Quest #1 - Send Pinn Home to Mommy

Step 1 – Talk to Ilbeth Derkhan (Pinn)
Location: Room 57-2 (Kitchen of Prosperous Farmhouse)
Quest Entry: Ilbeth Derkhan at the Prosperous Farmhouse told me to tell her son Pinn to come home immediately. He should be playing outside somewhere, probably at the southern shore.
Script Actions: Set Quest 1, Step 1.

Step 2 – Talk to Pinn Derkhan (Go_Home)
Location: Room 101 (Rocky Beach)
Quest Entry: I’ve talked to Pinn at the Rocky Beach to the south, but he refuses to go home. He claims his dad had made him a ball to play, which he accidentally dropped into the sea a bit north and he can’t reach it anymore, because the rocks are too hight to climb down. He’s afraid of going home without the ball, but if I can bring him the ball back, he promised me that he’ll be back home in no time.
Script Actions: Set Quest 1, Step 2.

Step 3 – Use Ball with Net
Location: Room 32 (Rocky Beach)
Journal Entry: I’ve used a fisherman’s net to fish Pinn’s ball out of the sea.
Script Actions: Set Quest 1, Step 3.
Add ball to inventory.

Step 4 – Talk to Pinn Derkhan (Ball)
Location: Room 101 (Rocky Beach)
Journal Entry: Pinn was very excited as I gave the ball to him. Delighted he took his ball and scurried home as promised.
Script Actions: Set Quest 1, Step 4.
Move Pinn Derkhan to Room 57-4 (Kid’s Room of Prosperous Farmhouse)
Allow Miniature Ship to be picked up.
Experience: +150

Step 5 – Talk to Ilbeth Derkhan (Pinn_Back)
Location: Room 57-2 (Kitchen of Prosperous Farmhouse)
Journal Entry: Ilbeth thanked me for sending Pinn home to her and even offered me a plate of fish soup for the favour. Ah well, nobody can tell me anymore that the common fishermen lack hospitality...
Script Actions: Mark Quest 1 as completed/remove Quest 1 from active quests.
Experience: +200

The quest concept looks fine to me though I would prefer a save_Pinn_from_the_clutches_of_the_hideous_sea_monster_washed_upon_the_shore_ this_morning thing.

Observations. Each quest/journal entry should have a title. It should also be mentioned if there should be an update/replacement of the text of a previous quest step or a new quest entry.

I also suggest that when a quest is completed to be entirely removed and a new entry to be added to the journal for the completed quest.

We should also bear in mind that experience is divided among the party members when assigning quest xp points.

The great successful men of the world have used their imaginations. They think ahead and create their mental picture, and they go to work materializing that picture in all its details, filling in here, adding a little there, altering this bit and that bit, but steadily building, steadily building.

*haha* Well, indeed the quest isn't really one which involves big monster bashing, it is only meant as a small example on how things can work. BTW: Pinn leaves his toy ship at the location, so there's the next small quest already prepared to bring it back to him and get a few more experience points.

Title for each entry, ok.

Hmmm... Can you give an example for such a thing? Why would a previous quest step need updating?

Removing of completed quest: Well, I don't know how much you intend to expand your current quest tab. Ideal would be that there'd be a quest overview (captions only) of all quests which are not done and all questions which are done already - and if you click on the caption you see the details etc. That's the usual way this is handled. Don't know what you do at the moment if you have lots of quests and what you put at the quests tab then.

Well let's say we have a quest Send Pinn to Mommy. At first the text of the quest says that you must talk to Pinn and tell him to come home. When you talk to him you update the text of the quest that you must get his ball and show a message that this quest has been updated. You don't add a new entry since it is a part of a series of steps to complete the quest. The more you go on the steps the text changes instead of adding new entries. It is just another possibility.

Currently there is no distinction between quests and "done quests". There are only Journal Entries that remind you of important events and information and Quest Entries that should be removed when completed. I don't think "Done Quests" are really necessary and if we want we can add done quests to the Journal.
