alright well i finally was able to talk to nate last night and figure out what was going on with the MUD...

the development team has been busy getting beta 9 ready for the lands of sorren and development for the MUD was put on hold for this...the beta goes up today (monday) so tomorrow (tuesday) development in the MUD will be in full force...

currently the plan seems to be to try and get an operational game before we completely open up the MUD to area development...nate wants people to get accustomed to playing in the game and how things work before we get full fledged development...currently the server crashed ever once in a while and there are several bugs that need to be worked out...once they have been worked out hopefully we can develop a good player base from people from the site and others that will be invited to play...

that said we still need several areas and characters to be developed so that the game is playable...so it would seem that we are on the right track with only having a couple of places that are being developed right now...

i will try and get weekly updates from nate and post them here so that my fellow santharians can be up to date on upgrades and happenings in the MUD...

Well, you might have noticed that the progress in the MUD area corresponds directly to what we get from the MUD "programmers". With that it is already said, I think, where we set our priorities now.

Nate promised to have enough time for MUD development "in full force" after the new round in Sorren started (which was a month ago). Well, I didn't expect anything different than that he is still busy with Lands of Sorren things. Two projects are two much for a programmer in case there aren't enough people to support his work. Also a team of people volunteering to support a project needs motivation to continue. Motivation for a volunteering group of people can mainly be achieved by making progress, you know, and by nurturing a functional teamwork.

With other words: The Santharian Dream team is focussing completely now on the usual development on the site, providing possible stuff which can be used at the MUD, but we've withdrawn the little resources we had in the MUD area intentionally.

Everything we have so far for the MUD will become part of the site (room descriptions, character dialogues, maps etc.), so that all these works are valuable for the site as well, independent from the MUD.
