Hello Koldar! So we have a final version of the Mitharim Coat of Arms... Can you try to make a shield from it now? Souldn't be that difficult now.

OK, hello everyone!  I know I haven't been here for a while, and my apologies.  I hope to be on-line soon but need to actually BUY a computer first. I have missed you all (and Santharia) most dreadfully.....

Anyhoooo, on to business.  Let me just state one thing very clearly.

Dwarves do not have Coats of Arms.

Now hang on, before Art hurls a lightning bolt at me, Quellion lapses into frustrated sobs, and Palcadon plans for a tunnel collapse in my immediate vicinity......

A coat of arms was specifically designed to be displayed by an otherwise non-identifiable warrior (thus 'arms).  It's a very human concept, and necessary for the medieval era in which Santharia finds itself - but - the dwarven society has no use for coats of arms.    What they DO have, which serves a similar purpose of identification and graphic/visual presence, are Oremarks.

Oremarks are monochrome (for the most part) symbols which are stamped / engraved / inlaid / molded / enameled / etc. onto the bottom of every piece of armour, jewelery. tableware, or other product of a dwarven forge.  Think of them as being more like the ranch brands of the Old West, or the modernday trademarks of our large companies.  Every clan has its own unique symbol, and the more well-known dwarven artisans and famous smiths are also allowed their own (often incorporating one part of their clan's oremark).

I have a list of clan oremarks and DID make reference to this concept on the board, although I was not able to post the list before my long absence - again, apologies.  Since the design is gorgeous (love the celtic interlacing!) and very apt for the clan, could we create a monochrome version (looking as though it were etched or inlaid perhaps?) which would be the Mitharim Orestamp (and set the precedents for the other stamp designs) - and then have this colored version specifically as "the flag which the brave dwarven explorers flew at the masthead of the vessel which brought them over the terrible seas" etc. etc.?

Hope that will make everyone happy, and if not, please post other ideas/responses/concepts.

With respect,
Bard Judith
