Independantly from the outcome of our relation with Sorren I just thought that we should think up a concept to make maps with more geographical details. While our maps currently look cool and impressive I have my problems to imagine details in the terrain (how does this mountain look like? Where are the grasslands? What regions are used for farming? What kind of forest is that? Are there any roads in Santharia).
Just imagine that perhaps a concept to make 'campaign'-maps ala 'DSA' or in any other paper-RPGs would be a needed addition.

As written in the Subject it would be a longterm project that needs a continuous concept(layout) to make it possible that several people can work on those maps. Something similar me and Art currently try to accomplish with the townmaps. When Nyermersys is finished we will use the 'Styles' used there in any other townmap without major reworks but only adjustments to the needed atmosphere.

As for region maps I see many advantages to them.  I also see much work involved in making them.

In my personal opinion I think creating the current views of the existing towns and continents are more important.

Maybe a less time consuming solution would be having descriptions with each map that shared that sort of information.  And expanding on the hot spot navigation method of viewing maps could review more details on the zoomed in maps.

Anyway that's just what I think.

I see what you mean, but I currently give priority to finishing the complete map of the Sarvonian Continent (will do this during my vacation in the next two weeks). And then an overall map of the world.

But it's true: In the long run we indeed need more detailed maps. But even hot spot navigation with tooltips on existing maps can only be very rough and not quite satisfying, especially when you put time into something you know can't be done throughly from the start.

What would be really good is an Atlas for each region or kingdom. You remember those atlas you had for GCSE (or equivilant) Geography? They took one country and looked at everything, soils, landuse, population density, climate, demographics (might be hard for non-human regions!), contor maps. They're This would be increadibly time consuming, but don't require too much graphical input, just a colour code really. If each member did two of the mapped regions? Could it happen?

Don't know. Would be really though, I guess, and there are many other things which need to elaborated which make more fun. So methinks that people would prefer things which make more fun... *hehe* Well, if you have some time at hand, Wren, maybe you could work out a concept for a certain region, where you try to cover most things? If we have a good example, it would be easier to follow it...

Currently my work on Nybelmar(if ever finished) is at least planned  with regional maps showing a certain region or realm.
All the other things would be really, really tough but eventually the maps should be a good mix of everything?

I would love to see a good world map. Next two weeks, you say? Will wait impatiently.
