Ideas for Plants

Is there someone who knows a lot about the plants - what grows where and all the other info that would be required for making a map / table for them?

Because what I'm thinking (hear the clogs

) is if there isn't already one in the makings to make one up. However I would need some help as to what goes where

I don't mind doing it all ready in dreamweaver (web publishing program) for Art so that all he (you) have to do is copy and paste it to your own b/g, then save and upload.

Could someone help with the information part?

I started here in Santharia with the plants - actually most of them that are up now are my invention - however, what goes WHERE ??? Dunno! I just put down things like 'grows well in cold climates' 'prefers hot dry weather' 'used by the plainsmen' and considerate authors and historians sorted them out or used what they wanted. Most plants grow most places all over the world, so limiting them to one specific area is usually pretty much a plot device - a poorly thought-out plot device in most fantasy...

No offense to your idea; I do believe there is an outline that must be followed when describing plants, but there is no master list of what grows where. If you're interested, it might be good to 'reverse-engineer' the existing list - start with a climate map and write in the plants that would grow there. Then people who are writing for a specific area or historical place would have a list by location as opposed to the list by name.

I've been neglecting my poor little herbs and plants lately because of all the work I'm doing on the Dwarves - also developing the Dragon Font, which is a headache. So feel free to run across and water them! Any new inventions are welcome, particularly stuff that fills in the gaps - (need grains, foodstuffs, medications, building material, etc!)

Sorry about the headache Bard.

However her suggestions Uragel are fantastic. There are only plants that thrive in only certain climatic conditions and there are only plants that cannot survive in certain climatic conditions. So to use the map, figure out what climate you want the plants, herbs to be in would be good for us poor-plot laden writers

Who use plants and herbs.

Plants would indeed be a blessing. You can only say foliage, greenery, and vegetation so much. :lol

I'll have a shot at 'reverse-engineering' <shrug>

sounds like an interesting way to do things. Also I'll have a bash and making some more up. See what I come up with.
